Hi there.

Reinstalled Windows. Now Media Player can't play a bunch of movies it used to play. Anyway to find what codecs the files actually require to get it playing ? Thought I had only installed divx and ffdshow, but surprisingly not...

:(

You could always use VLC Media Player instead? Media player sucks :moon:

Aye, probably be next on the list to install. Just worked before, you know, and I know the wife likes using it.

Flipping computers !

+1 for VLC, it will play anything. No codecs needed :)

Aye, I put it back on again in the end. No doubt I will figure out what is wrong with media player in due course...

If you need to know the codecs needed on your system to play a specific media file, GSpot does the trick:thumb:

try downloading "XP Codec pack" should sort most of your problems. You'll find it after a quick google search.

Cheers. Got it working in the end. Installed Divx latest, divx free, codec pack, and then ffdshow standalone. After installing ffdshow standalone everything started working as before...

Not really an annoyance for me to be honest, but the wife uses media player.

I really have to get separate computers at some stage.
