View Full Version : What's in your studio?

What's in your studio? This is a good question. It will depend on what your needs are or, better worded, what you will be recording.

My needs are pretty simple. I only need to record, at best, two tracks at a time. I don't need a huge interface. This goes for both my PC recording needs as well as for my portable standalone devices. Regarding the PC, I prefer a mixerless DAW setup. I use a PC I built myself from parts. It's pretty fast and has 2gb memory. I am considering doubling this amount because I have a thing for plug-ins. I don't need a mixer because I use an M-Audio Firewire 410 that has a software mixer built in to the driver that lets me route connections any which way I wish. Being firewire it has very low latency...under 5ms to be exact. My software of choice is Cubase. I have other vendor products but I bought Cubase SE3 and it works extremely well for me. I used cracked versions of the higher end offerings but, frankly, it was overkill. I have yet to outgrow SE and, as a paying customer, I get updates via Steinberg/Yahama for it. I also use FL Studio. I purchased the producer edition and use it to work with midi mostly. I like to build my backing tracks within this product. Another indispensable product is PG Music's Band in a Box. Perfect, too, for getting backings going to groove to. I love how it builds up the arrangement for you and outputs the sheet music.

I have other apps, but these are really the ones that get fired up the most and are essential to my music creation process. I am not counting the insanely large number of DXi and VSTi plugins I use. While on the subject, I find the following to get the most use:

Ozone 3
PSP Vintage Warmer
Sonic Maximizer
Lexicon Reverb
Classic VST Pack

I just like experimenting with sounds and tones. I also keep two separate rooms. I have one room set aside for recording. This is where my PC DAW is based. I also use a larger room as more of a rehearsal room. I like the spaciousness and it's in this room that I like to work out riffs, learn tunes, and just jam. I keep a Zoom MRS-8 multi track recorder connected with various mics for instruments and vocals. All my amps are housed in this room as well. I have numerous SD cards that I keep on hand because I always like to keep the unit rolling when I am rehearsing. Reviewing the sessions helps me remedy sloppy or inaccurate playing and also gives me reference to any ideas I have come up with so I don't foget them. I especially enjoy this room for get-togethers. It is great for guitar duets. I would eventually like to get some Roland V Drums up there to complete the space.

So now that I have detailed my setup a bit, I am interested in your setups. I'd like to know what your process is like and what you prefer to use to get the ideas out of your head and onto recorded media. We're all ears...

Here's a pretty good visual of my PC recording setup. The images are very accurate depictions of my hardware. Some of the PC specs may have changed a bit, though, since I made this. I tried to make this easy to follow and logical.

Well mine might sound pretty simplistic compared to yours m8 but i just use Audacity and my good old V-amp 2 into the comp:wtf:
I am adding my new built custom guitar into the mix from tomorrow onwards, so might not make it sound so pathetic lol, but hey im pretty happy considering for what it all cost me though, i seem to get pretty respectful tones out of them, so thats the mainthing for me :toothless:

I think mine is fairly simplistic compared to others but you bring up a great point. You don't need an elaborate setup to achive great results. I have heard tunes you've posted. You capture great tone and the tunes have a pro sound to them. Look at bluesplayer, as another example. He uses an old Cubasis product and a cheap Soundblaster card yet he produces some of the best tunes I've ever heard posted on any forum. They sound like pro session recordings. This is what I meant when I said your studio really need only be tailored to your needs. Define your needs and you have pretty much laid out your studio. Look, all you are really doing is capturing sound. That's it. If you can capture what you hear in your head using a V-amp and a Soundblaster then that works well for you. You have all you need to record. I do like experimenting and I do employ midi in my applications so I did branch my setup out a bit.

Keep 'em coming, guys. It's very interesting to read about other people's setups.

That's a kick ass setup you have going there and you know how to use it which always impresses me lol, I get confused with too much stuff!

As for simplicity, I've always preferred it that way. Here is how mine used to look a little while back.

Pretty Basic for me, no mixers or rack effects. This is it below basically.

I mainly just use my POD instead of pedals for straight playing and use GuitarPort for recording.

Another POD proponent! The main sound of my computer based recording. No moving and micing amps...no nonsense. That's a pretty sweet setup there, Riff. +1 for the ultra cool GuitarGeek style layout :thumb:

My "playroom" as I like to call it, consists of a couple guitars, a POD XTL hooked to the PC though a cheap Soundblaster both with a Y cable to audio in and through USB, and use Audacity with some sort of ASIO drivers for the latency issue, which works pretty good, for recording the E guitar.
As for the acoustic recs, I recently substituted a PC mic with another condenser one I grabbed in a mall, it sounds pretty good to me, but I always have to "half insert the jack in" the sound card to make it work, and amplify the final recording as it seems to record very low. I put it in between my knees or right under my PC keyboard to be as close to the sound hole as possible.

Lately I have been messing a little with midi but only for making myself BackingTracks through the guitarPro-synthfont way, using free soundfonts I have found through the net, and some drum programming, but for this I seem to not have enough time to learn it all and have the adecuate software, so I mainly fix up loops in Audacity from a few CDs I bought some time ago, which is fairly easier and suits my needs.

Speakers are a 5.1 sound system, which I feel sounds pretty good. Apart from this I got a 1966 grundig stereo valve system for listening to records and the radio, that beast sounds WAY loud, and laying around here a Cube 30, a DD3 boss pedal, and an RP200, which I seldom use nowadays.

Pretty much. The only reason I even bother with the FW410 is for the mics. Eric have you tried any of the patches I posted?

Ukelele, thanks for sharing your setup. Since you use the XTL have you tried recording with it directly via USB and playing around with reamping in your recordings? It works quite well and really allows you to experiment with sounds.

This is simply striking. I am looking to get new furniture for the studio and was searching the web and stumbled across this:

http://www.fnl.nl/dyw/archief2000/dyw2000-01/dyw20002mcadp1t4.jpg

It's in Dutch so I will have to run the page through Babelfish. Anyway I would like to find something exactly like this in the same finish. It's just the right size for my needs. I can easily place two LCDs on top and it looks like it will hold speakers up to 8" cones.

Funny you should ask that, it seems like every time I play a tune he's like "I don't think that's right dad, it's like this" and he's usually right! :chucks:

He reads tabs all the time and all of mine is by ear, nothing like getting corrected by your 15 year old kid. He was pushing me to learn stairway to heaven and I didn't want to go into all the chord changes so he printed up the tab. I went out for a smoke and when I came back in he had the entire beginning part down. He can also do the hammer-on part of eruption really well. I am a proud dad!

Well i fall under the simple setup catagory.
My computer is fairly old, except the motherboard, which i had to replace when the original boards capacitors started melting.
Anyway, the computer i make all my music on is:
AMD XP1600+, 512meg, 40gig HD, entry level Soundblaster 24-bit, and thats about that, the software is Computer Muzys for all my backing work, Audacity for guitar work and mixing (on larger backing projects too).
My guitar setup, my AV-1 prototype guitar, handbuilt by myself, a Marathon floyd rose guitar (cheap and cheerful, but does ok for trem work),
a V-Amp 2 (the best £99 i ever spent), a Marshall MG30FX for jams, a Boss DS-1, CS-3, OC-2 which mostly get used with the marshall, but i rarely use anything other then the V-Amp tbh, finally, my Jim Dunlop 535Q Wah, which is a very recent addition to my setup.
Its not much, and im not saying i wouldn't mind my own studio or something, but i've done somethings im extremely proud of with this setup, and more then i ever dreamed i would do with it :)

Thanks for posting your setup, Avalon. I have a copy of Computer Muzys on cd somewhere near the computer. I got it out of one of those large, expensive computer magazines from the UK - Computer Music I believe. Very lightweight, makes no changes to the registry and works well with audio and midi. Actually your setup is not lightweight at all if you don't burden the processor with too many plugins. For the apps you mentioned you're using you are prolly running with very little strain.

The low-end issue is why I went w/ the 8's. So far they seem to hold up pretty well. I'm sure you know they make a cool sub to go w/ this set-up too. For the price (you can definately spend more) I think it's great bang for your buck.

Yeah its from Computer Music magazine, all my backing work is done on free software with free soundfonts (some like the drums got altered to my taste) and on my existing computer.
So extremely low budget studio, which is the wonder of the modern world really, and just shows what can be done with virtually no money spent :)
As for the burden on the processor, you right it doesn't have much to do, but it sure makes hard work of it sometimes

I have an RSS studio (Ridiculously Simply Setup!!!!)....

Just have my one and only guitar - a Strat
That's plugged into a Zoom G2.1u which has USB for direct to PC recording so that's very handy and sounds half decent for my purposes.
I use the Steinberg Cubase LE software which came with the Zoom, which is so simple to use and looks nice as well.
My PC is custom built by myself (being a computer engineer for a living)AMD XP 2000 with 1.5Gb Ram, Average 24bit internal soundcard which is great for mastering with Sony Sound Forge 8 (which I also have).
I have a little Yamaha 61 note keyboard which I bought for my sons to learn keyboards on but turns out that I use it more just to keep my technique up on keyboards.

That is it.............You at the back there, STOP LAUGHING !!!:o

No I haven´t, it should be one fun thing to mess with. I remember reading about it in the manual when I installed it, but for some reason I just hooked it up to the line in as I had my RP 200 before, and stuck the USB cable for "turning the knobs with the mouse", and after that I haven´t changed it,:headscratch: . Mine i guess is really simple, i record with cakewalk sonar/Acid Pro programs;
Use an old Delta breakout box/from M-Audio-4 ins/outs. It's all I need.
Then I use a Petrucci MM or my old Ibanez destroyer/Fred p/u for electric gtrs-that goes thru a Pod and a DOD EQ. I then Mix done using ozone program.
For acoustic/bass/vocals-I use my Behringer V-amp/with and Art tube pre-amp and a sure sm-58 mic, running through a samson compressor.
I ususally use my Seagull 12 string-from Canada, if ya haven't heard em try em I think they are Gr8.
I'll probably get a better recording mic., but prices of livin go up as my wages stay the same.lol

Here's a few pics. It's a very basic setup-I spend most of my cash on sought after guitars at the moment and I can't see the point in digital mixers or recorders while the software route is so good.

I use a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz with 2gb RAM and 400GB hard drive. I also have a Seagate 325GB hard drive USB'ed up for backup.

The speakers are Tannoy Reveals and seem to give a good impression of the recorded sound

I still use the PODxt but I'm gonna start buying more guitar goodies. I've just got the Native Instruments Guitar Rig version 2 so I'll have a play around with that.

Software-wise it's still Cakewalk 9.0 but I am finally experimenting with Acid Pro 6.0 and the EZ Drummer program (thanks guys...you know who you are!)

Hardware I use a Bass V-Amp Pro for the bass, Alesis Midiverb 4 for the pretty back light and a Roland JV1080 rackmount synth for any wierd noises that I can't find from samples on the net. A Roland PC300 keyboard is the controller for the synth but I use it very rarely so it may go under the cosh.

Soundcard is an Edirol UA-25. The POD or V-Amp go into this as well as my vocal mic's. I tend to run two mic's one left and one right to get a better result. Cakewalk 9.0 will only record in mono on one side so rather than muck about changing over settings, I simply plug both in, level them together (one is much more powerful than the other) and record two tracks at once. Then I pan round and Bob's yer Uncle.

I've mentioned my guitars before so I won't bother. I also have a Line6 Spider 100w 2 x 12 combo that I use for my lessons. It's battered but does the job for both bass and guitar. :)

Here's my humble studio space at the moment. My computer.. nothing really special, but it works, and the guitar port on top of it.
Logitech z-5500 5.1 speakers.

Behind me I always have my les paul and my acoustic guitar, sometimes my bass. The rest of 'em hanging up on the wall. Also my mic, mxl 990 condenser. I have the wrong type of mic stand so I put it together with duct tape.
And of course my little table of fun, with my preamp (behringer tube ultragain mic200) and my crybaby wah pedal and all of my fun little instruments. Some harps, a kazoo, a mouth harp and my beer can shaker :woot:

Nothing special really, not much expensive stuff, but I'm having a lot of fun with all of it!

hello ppl,

i'm thinking to start my own home/room studio for recording but i don't really know what should i have. i'm not looking for 'A' class home studio but at least recording job can be done. I don't have any digital processors around. i only have a bunch of pedals, an amp and pc. . i've tried connect them in very traditional way and the result very awful. so yah this dude asking tips and advice here.

whatever way you choose to go you are going to need a decent audio card. the Toneport GX is a cheap ($70) usb soundcard and a pretty good modeler too. http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINTONEPORTGX

it will get you started with good results - but you need a fairly modern pc (winXP only!!) or mac

Technical Info
WINDOWS
Pentium 4 1.2GHz or better (2.5Ghz or more recommended)

Windows XP (with SP2 only)

512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended)

1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording)

Drive speed 5400rpm minimum (7200rpm or faster recommended)

CD-ROM drive

Internet connection for online features

MACINTOSH
Intel or Power PC based G4 1.5GHz or better (G4 1.67 or better recommended)

OS X 10.4 or better

512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended)

1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording)

Drive speed 5400rpm minimum (7200rpm or faster recommended)

CD-ROM drive

Internet connection for online features

USB
One free USB 1.1 or 2.0 compatible port on computer (USB hubs are not supported)

if you want to avoid using amp sims and whatnot - you are going to find it a lot harder getting good tones. Your project studio will possibly need damping and getting a good amp through microphones can be fairly expensive audio card/mixer/mics etc.

I would try the toneport (or similar) route as it is a low investment and you will probably get better results immediately that way.

thanks for the feedback. ok currently i'm running on:
Pentium D 3.2Ghz
1Gb of RAM
Asus Pci-E Card
X-fi Extreme Music Soundcard.
Windows Xp with SP2

i began to think this X-fi soundcard is not the right card for recording. maybe i will get Toneport GX it looks cute, affordable plus reviews said its such a great device. i'll try to visit some guitar shops n check it out. thanks ya.

the X-Fi is a good sound card (for gaming and all purpose use) it is also pretty good for recording but the toneport is actually an audio card, rather than a sound card. What this GX lacks compared to the other toneports (Ux1, Ux2 and KB37 lacks) is only on the connections side. no +48 Phantom Power for condenser mics and no routing options for re-amping etc. It only has a single in and (stereo) out. That said, a y connector for your speakers is only a couple of bucks and you are up and running. On the plus side the Amp Sims and effects that come with the basic package are pretty much identical to a Pod XT and the unit is upgradable software wise. my UX2 has the gearbox VST pluginand all the amps and effects add-ins as well. You can even subscribe to the guitarport online service too.

Sorry I missed this. Yeah the UX2 is a decent package. it is essentially the same as a GX but with more knows and inputs. And 2 VU meters :) I have one and I love it. But if you CAN get a GX and you don't need all the other bits - then I suggest you go for that.

My "studio" has been refined a bit, so I thought I would post an update.

I have stuck to Cubase SX3 and boosted the pc to meet my demands. Like before I built this from scratch and used silent 12cm fans throughout. I reused my Nexus Breeze silent case because it is rather good.

I bought a new P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Mobo and a Core2Duo E6400 and loaded it with 4x1GB DDR2 Ram. On the downside it is still running 4 HDD's (2x200GB, 1x320GB and 1x500GB). The HDD's need to be consolidated into 2 drives and the ram replaced by 2x2GB sims. Temperature is a real problem at the moment and the case is cooking the electronics. Also I stuck with the Nvidia 7600GT GFX card - its rather special and very good bang for the buck.

External to the pc I have:
Edirol 8 i/o FA101 sound card
Toneport UX2 - + gearbox vst and all model packs.
2x19" tft monitors
Behringer B2031A speakers
Tapco 12-2 mixer.

Plus a VG-88 V2 recently back out of the cupboard after a year - I still love this unit, no fizz and tons of clarity, plus some of the best reverbs out there.

2 RG470L's, 1 Ibanez bass, Fender strat, Acoustic and a Variax.

Oh and an Evolution MK-461 keyboard midi controller and a Behringer B2-pro condenser mic.

Everything else is done in software (Ozone, Waves etc).

i have to agree with porty that unless you need 2 separate inputs there is no reason to get a ux2 over a gx. will you ever record 2 different instruments at the same time? i have a toneport that works really well but i only use it for vocals and not guitar. i prefer my v-amp2 for guitar. there are a couple things i don't like about the toneport. its not portable. you can't take it to practice or to a playing job. and you can't download patches and tones from the line 6 library like you can with a pod. you have to buy expensive tone packs and you still can't trade or share patches with your friends. so in my opinion if you aren't going to use it for vocals and you are just going to use it for guitar you might be better off with a pod xt or even a pocket pod. $99 will get you a v-amp2. rumer has it that the pod 3 might have vocal patches and an xlr jack for a microphone. don't get me wrong. i like my toneport but i am getting a pocket pod for guitar. i don't know about you but its hard to play and tweek your sound on a computer. if i want to sound like vai or bb king i'll download the patch from the line 6 library into my pocket pod rather than spending a lot of time creating the tone myself

I figured I would get in on this thread just for the heck of it.

Guitar or Bass into Line6 UX2 Toneport into computer running Guitar Tracks Pro 3. I also have a V-Amp2 that I run into a SWR Workingman 12 bass amp sometimes. Guitars consist of a LTD MH201, a Washburn WG587 7 string ($100 on clearance from music123 so I couldn't resist), B.C. Rich Innovator bass and crappy 5 string Squier bass. I want some studio monitors and then I'll be happy (for a while).

• Variax 500. I hate the look but I like the guitar.
• Ibanez Gio GSR200L bass

Outboard (left to right)

• Behringer B2031A Monitors – say what you want about Behringer but these Active Monitors are very good indeed.
• Roland VG-88 V2.0
• Line 6 Toneport UX2 – pretty sweet unit and a decent sound card too.
• Edirol FA101 10 channel firewire soundcard.
• Tapco Mix 120 desk
• Evolution MK461 midi controller keyboard

PC stuff

• PC – 4GB 800MHz ram, E6850 Processor, 4 HDD’s and 2 External
• Two Samsung Syncmaster 225BW 22” widescreen monitors

OK, here's my current configuration. I will take some better shots at some point, but I either need to quit drinking when I shoot photos, or else get a tri-pod. I've got a great camera with a particular setting that I really like, becuase it captures that mood and feeling of my studio playroom, but you have to hold the camera really still. But these shots are not too high on the blur factor.

The 1st one is my workstation.

The 3rd is my Bass

I like the lighting in your studio that is the type of thing i have been trying to acheive but without sucsess. Thanks, man! I am a bit of a mood lighting freak. I am a graphic artist for a living (the "A" in my name stands for "artist" :) ) so I am quite visually stimulated and lighting greatly affects my mood. The secret to establishing this sort of mood is to use lots of little lights instead of a few central bright ones. I string them all together into one or two power strips (using extension cords) so they are all quick and easy to turn on and off (1 switch turns all those lights on or off!). Indirect lighting is also a great technique for creating nice atmosphere. There are only 2 small direct lights in that whole scheme...the rest are just splashes of color here and there. Another secret to good mood lighting is to not use any regular incandescent or yucky flourescent lights at all. Those 2 directional lights are small and only for the purposes of when I really need to read something! :) And finally, something that will do wonders for creating mood is to buy yourself a few dimmer switches.

Is that a Sienna burst Fender American Deluxe?....she is a beauty.I played one at a music store and loved the neck and fret's on it soft "C".:boobies:'Tis indeed! My wife got it for me for Christmas. She researched it and bought it on eBay as a surprise. It plays and sounds like a dream!

Hey Parker, that's an assload of gear, man! You've practically got a small music shop there! And I love that chair/stool (looks like you stole it off the set of Austin Powers!). I have that Rush poster as well, but plan to frame it, so I don't currently have it up. I also have that Curt Mitchell "In the Style of..." Van Halen DVD as well. :) From looking around your studio, we would prolly get along pretty well, musically! That's a nice looking keyboard (nicer than mine anyway). It would be good to see a straight-on shot of those guitars though sometime! :)

Kcar :) I wouldn't like to meet them 2 in a dark alley m8 :)
might get licked to death lol :) they look best of mates :)Hey Bullly, I really dig your studio collage! It is a nice layout of your stuff And those light green walls are totally cosmic! Looks like a relaxing and creatively stimulating place to work on music. Very beautiful guitars as well. I can't see the headstock, but one of those guitars looks like a Paul Reed Smith. Is this correct? The other guitarist in my first band had one and it played like a Cadillac drives!

Regarding my security system (my dogs), you are correct! They would lick you like a salt block until you were gone! People who don't know them are often intimidated by their appearance and act quite guarded when they meet them, but quickly realize how silly their fear of them was. They are indeed best mates and are basically inseparable. They came from the same breeder but are a year apart. One is the uncle and the other is the nephew. But the nephew thinks he is the uncle. :)

Thanks for the lighting tip's i have been trying to create a mood as well, and your idea of small lights( like the Fender strand) is a good idea. I noticed that you have some back lighting as well The red light beamed off the wall.
It would be nice to have someone like you to bounce musical ideas off of, we would get along well musically.
Its hard to find people who are creative and want to strive for something more in music, at 44 it's allot tuffer to interact with musicians than it is at 25.
Half of the band i used to play with went off and are playing with some local FM radio guy's and left me and our singer to twist in the wind after spending 25 years together....so much for loyalty!.

Hey if you get a chance go see Rush on their current tour it is THE BEST! Their next stop is back in Canada in May and i am going to see them again.:woot:

P.S those dogs look mischievous like they could pull one over on you, probably the Paul Newman blue eyes that give them that look.

If it were not for this site (and I know there are others out on the net, but this is the one that I obviously prefer :) ), my passion for guitar and home recording may have gone into deep hibernation. So we can still bounce ideas off eachother, but it is obviously easier when you're sitting in the same room together.

Regarding RUSH, I left a reply in some other thread (can't recall which one, but I think I did it yesterday) to your comments on this tour. I saw them this tour and they were fantastic. It's hard to believe they are getting so old, because their playing does not reflect their age!

those dogs look like the type that if a thief gave them some raw hamburger they would help carry shit out to his van. lol.You are correct! They are more like a security alarm than a security guard! :) They are very protective if they think either my wife or I are in danger, but otherwise, they would definitely not attack an intruder. They must have a great ear for music though, as they howl madly whenever I play! :dunno:

Here is a pic of my Passive alarm system as well(powered by belly scratching)...She would also lick an intruder to death.KCAR stands for Kansas City Artist Rocker. It is a long story but I picked that username about 5+ years ago when I signed up for Match.com (where I met my wife). I picked it because I thought it would be the quickest way for potential victims...er, I mean...ladies to quickly determine if I might be of interest to them or not. Plus it was liek a 4-word synopsis of me...I've always lived in Kansas City, I am a graphic artist for a living and I like to Rock! :) Then, when I signed up for Guitars101 (the predecessor to this fine site), I used that moniker as well, because of similar reasoning (but obviously not looking for ladies :) ). Everybody just started calling me KC, so when this site opened I just shortened it up for convenience sake.

Your alarm system looks like one of those new hybrids...runs on food and belly-scratchin'! :) What a whore though! Looks like a shot right out of PlayDog magazine! I'd do her though, if I were a dog. :)

Actually, we used to have a thread going a while back in the Open Chat section called "Show us your pets." Or maybe that was back on G101. Anyway, we should fire up that thread again. It is very interesting to see what kind of critters people choose to have as pets! Now, if you do post that pic of Chloe up there, as a representative of the site, I must ask that you apply the fig leaf first.

Our posts were correct the thread was listed as "whats in your sudio" and Chloe and i'am sure your dogs as well are often in the studio albeit to search for any dropped sandwich's or chocolate bars....lord knows its not for the music.

Very, very cool, Bully!!! I used to own a cheap drum set that I jacked around on, and I've also played a handful of electronic drum kits and I will own one more sooner than later. I am very envious, bro! Keep doing what you're doing with them! :thumb:

:) well it keeps ye hand in doesn't it :) I wouldn't have given these a second look over an acoustic kit a few years back, but for recording its second to none.

Still miss the feel of a propper acoustic kit tho :( saying that these feel ok especially the mesh headed snare, but for covers and recording on here with you guys they are perfect.
and it keeps me fit which is a bonus.
Would love to here you play a set m8 :boobies:

 I wish I could play drums like that. And I´m fit enough for it. But I guess I´ll keep on tapping-pounding my legs/table in the meanwhile. Kickass studio you got there man, love it. Pound them mofos, destroy the kit. Rock ain´t worth a shit without you drummers.

I have a very simple setup. I have my Gibson SG running into my mic'd Crate BV-60H half stack. I'm running my SM57 into a ART MPA Gold which runs into my Dell computer with a standard Soundblaster card. Not the greatest setup, but I like it. I use Reaper to record. It has good multi-tracking.
