AFM Records has set a November 24 release date for BLACKMORE'S NIGHT's
holiday album "Winter Carols" http://www.afm-records.de/images/inhalt/news/BN_060915_01.jpg

Former DEEP PURPLE/RAINBOW guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his fiancée Candice Night have always loved the winter: the brisk clean air on a frosty eve when you can feel all your senses alive with the season — smell the wood fires burning, see your breath linger in the frosty air, feel the snowflakes fall upon your face. It evokes festivities and bright candlelight, and music that was sung and performed for hundreds of years by minstrels of the Middle Ages — many of these songs still emerge today during the winter season. This is their interpretation of many favourite carols, shared, performed and enjoyed for the past 400 years.

Commented Candice: "The holiday season has always embodied joy, love, peace, togetherness. The sentiments of the holidays are what we try to express in our music."

Added Ritchie: "The origin of the word carol means 'dance' back in the mid 1500s. Most of the Christmas Carols are from the 1400s, 1500s, 1600s. They are brilliant melodies. I am naturally attracted to these melodies — as a kid of 10, 11, 12, I would go from house to house during the holiday time and sing them just to earn some money. Now, as an adult, I thought I could play them and make more money."

 The Festive Season being the sound of cash-till bells! At least he's honest..

I actually know Blackmore is having the time of his life . He can play neat Castles and Haunted homes , carry a couple of Acoustics , before or after the gig have a nice meal , drink quality German beers in the local without getting mobbed , play to a very willing audience who even dress the part . The pressure is non existent . I have resigned myself to the fact that Blackmore ain't coming back , he likes it where it is ,good for him and I'm very envious . im also starting to wise up to the fact , in fact I'm even looking forward to this Christmas Carol album . bless ...........

I saw this on the Blackmores Night forum im part of, well for me i like Candice, she has a great voice combined with some decent lyrics.
Blackmore... well his my childhood hero, so theres no comment on what he does.
Most DP fans complain about something or another, some can't stand Gillan, some want Coverdale back, then ppl can't get past Rainbow and the Dio era, personally i love Ian Gillan along with Joe Lynn Turner, i will take them over Coverdale and Dio anyday, yeah i might be strange but i think Blackmore turned a corner in his later works with Rainbow, he started becoming much more technical player as most of his early works are simplistic.
So for me Blackmores Night is great, most of the stuff is challenging to play and great fun for me:woot:
Ofcourse we are all diffrent though, but i do suggest to the old time DP/Rainbow fans to take a listen to some of the other stuff:)

well even as i love blackmore, i reckon his [electric]playing has become mostly stagnant, and dare i say,,,repetative..like the way his tone has evolved tho,and i think his slide vibrato is second to none.

still, not to forget he's turned 60! so naturally his playing wont be as firery as "in rock" which was him at his best IMHO.

listening to that album in 1970 had the same effect on me as listening to VH1 in '78.

nothing could touch it.

Deep Purple in Rock was unreal in terms of speed guitar playing . But i actually remember reading an interview where Blackmore said around about 1965-67 he was sick of going from A-Z at lightening speed . Deep Purple in Rock was the new slower restrained Blackmore :headscratch: . I certainly detected that on Fireball but hells bells is there another album from 1970 featuring such a lightening fast lead guitarist . :wtf:
