New addition but gone already...bought as a favour for a friend...he owes me BIG TIME for getting him a guitar as nice as this!!! For those who haven't discovered Levinson Blade, you're talking custom shop standard Fender Strats made in Switzerland (well the old ones are). Try one...they are amazing. This little beauty was £295.00 on eBay.

I have been remoddeling my house, so my recording place is a huge mess.
The guitars are a 77 Les Paul and a 77 Ibanez Artist. (I have a few others, but those are the main ones). The amps are a 74 JMP and an 80 JMP. You might make out a 65 Fender Princeton Reverb in the middle of the room as well as the hand made Giller Plexi amp in the back corner. The blue thing is a Roland GR300 guitar synth..(for the keen eyed). Thanks for letting me share.
They are poor quality as all I have is a cell phone camera.

Love these Marshall pics...I've shown this one before...poor quality but at a gig at the Boro Town Hall in 1982 where I used all my stuff and a couple of "borrowed ones" :) to make this wall of sound. Phil Spector NOWHERE to be seen!!!! Also there would have been a Captain Spasm running round like a headless chicken trying to catch Gibson, Ibanez and Fender guitars that I drunkenly threw 6 ft into the air because they were out of tune!!!!
http://www.chris-watson.com/Black_rose_gallery/black_rose_gall/images/5%20amps_6%20cabs_BIG%20noise_jpg.jpg
BTW, this was 4 100w Master Vol and 2 50w master vol with five 4 x 12 Marshall cabs. I only ran 4 amps that night. The other two were spares cos I didn't know how to patch them up. Standing in front of it and hitting an 'Angus' A brought you to your knees!!!

This sparring keeps me and Chris active and warm on the long cold winter nights ... both over 40 now y'know ('cept he beat me to it) ... so we old men need to have something to bitch over .. keeps us alive!
If we told the story, there'd be nothin' left to bitch over ... and we'd both fade away like the early morning dew ... besides, he KNOWS I'm right, but just petends like HE is, so we can keep the argument going.
Believe me ... old folk (like wahwah  ) get like this after a time .. it'll happen to you too eventually.

Here's my axe....I only have the one. I've owned so many guitars (even just over the past 6 months) but I tend to buy/sell in my quest to find one comfortable axe with a good spec. This one now fits the bill for me and its staying with me. I am planning to get another axe before too long and that one will be a Les Paul of sorts, money permitting & the wife permitting, it'll be a Gibson, but failing that an Epi Les Paul Ultra or a MIJ Tokai.

Hey John,
Well, I really loved the tone of the Tokai Strat but I kept hitting the volume pot all the time with my picking hand which really annoyed me so it had to go. This one is totally comfortable to play for me and has kick ass pickups and trem which really stays in tune a whole lot better than the strat.
You're Tokai looks sweet mate, I will definately check them out and that's an absolute steal of a price....thanks for the info :thumb:

Drummer's Epi Zakk Wylde Bullseye ... I use it drop-tuned to Eb (Chris take note ... NOT 430Hz) fro AC/DC numbers.
Can't get away with it ... feels MUCH cheaper than it's £450 price tag. It's too light, no guts in the sound and the neck is too 'clunky'(?) :headscratch:
Also, can't get it to stay in tune. I tune it before we start the gig ... by the time I change over to it (1/2 hour later), the tuning's slipped!! ... then again, it's usually the low 'E' that's gone flat ... maybe this guitar is possessed by the living spirit of ZW and just wants to get back to drop 'C' tuning for that Zakk/Ozzy vibe??

I had one of these Zakk Wylde's mate. I love the bullseye look and I absolutely loved the neck on the thing, but could never get a good sound out of the pickups. Everyone told me changing the pickups would sort it out.
However, I couldn't be bothered spending any more money on it for the potential for it to shine. On any setting, my Wolfie, Kramer and Ibanez all sounded much fuller and louder than this guitar did.
I later bought (and sold) a Gibson Les Paul. A few chords through that beast made me realise I wasn't wrong, the sound just wasn't up to it.
I have still to try a Tokai though, but have heard very good things about them.

LOL! :mad1: My only E-guitar is an EPI Dot, sounds and feels good to me! I really didn´t give a damn about the label, it just was the best decent lefty guitar atm in the guitar shop. Action is good, (not as low as a friend´s Höner, also a 335 copy), but I love how it sounds. Next one will be some sort of tele, hopefully (if I find a lefty one that I like lol!). Thing is, playing mostly as I would in an asylum (aka sat in front of my PC), the DOT is very confortable, nice and big as an acoustic, :)

I love Tokai's, had a couple of Strats and a Love Rocks - you just have to be careful - some models aren't made of 'proper' wood
My Korean Love Rock was almost as nice as my Gibson, though the flame wasn't quite up to it....

An 'alleged' limited numbers promotion by "357 Customs" ... a custom motorbike manufacturer in USA (or at least by individuals claiming to be associated with them). Basically ... buy a die-cast model bike from them for about $150 and get a free Epi Zakk Wylde LP Custom. ZW's endorsement of the deal was 'implied'.
As I understand it and at the last time that I looked, a very few people (who shouted loudest) got 'em. Most didn't, amid many, many unbelievable and ever-more preposterous excuses.
Don't really want to dig this all up again ... it was just a throwaway jibe to someone I knew could take the joke ... but a cheap one at that, I admit. I apologise if anyone took/takes offence at having that sorry tale re-told by someone who didn't get involved, but would have 'had a go' if the readies had been there.
Sorry guys ...

Here's an epi special that I bought. Played okay, and sounded "okay". Just never gave me the exact Gibson Les Paul sound that I was after. I thought I would be able to get it on the cheap and tweak it through the PodXT.
I couldn't, so it went on ebay.

Saw them in "Sound Control" for £99 abt 6 months ago. I thought ... should I? ... then saw sense, bid on my 'Love Rock' & won it (I was the only one who bid, so I got it for a steal). Never looked back since ... looking out for the NEXT one I can snap up for peanuts. :toothless:

Next on my journey for the Les Paul tone was this Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye.
I jumped at the chance to own this guitar as I had been fond of the bullseye design for a while. And the price was a steal.
Well, whilst driving into work, my mobile rang several times. I didn't answer cuz I didn't have a hands free kit. When I got into work, the administrator told me it had been her that had been ringing as the UPS guy wanted £100 customs duty. That suddenly made the deal not so much a steal after all.
I fell in love with the bullseye immediately, and it sat on it's stand in my office behind me all day. I could not wait to play it.
Unfortunately, the tone was thin and weak out of the pickups. I would get a decent tone out of it, only to plug my Ibanez, Wolf, or Kramer in and get what can only be described as a wonderwall of tone in comparison. Gutted, because the neck was a real beauty, but all the while, whatever tone I dialled in, my other three guitars would sound more Les Paul than this.
Everyone told me that new pickups would solve the problem, but after paying the duty on the guitar, and then buying new pickups and paying someone to install them (I hadn't done soldering since I was 12 and I was shit at it then), I'd have paid more than the guitar was worth and there was no guarantee that I would be happy with the sound.
So back onto ebay it went.
Wasn't as yellow as the pictures made out. More creamy. Like I say, I loved and still love the design.

Anyway, to complete my search for that Gibson Les Paul sound, I thought I'd try a Gibson Les Paul Standard. Stupid really. How is a Gibson Les Paul Standard going to sound anything like a Gibson Les Paul Standard ?
Err, hold on.
Acting on impulse, I bought a guitar that I couldn't afford at the time. Then my fucking boiler broke meaning a new one had to be installed. So back to ebay I went once again !
However, the guitar was a beauty. There have been numerous threads about Epiphones versus Gibsons. There is the train of thought that a well set up, well made Epiphone can play and sound as well as a Gibson. There's also the analogouy of a guy who makes a blinder of an Epiphone one day versus a guy who has an off day making a Gibson. The Epiphone still goes out with the cheap price tag, and the Gibson still goes out with the expensive price tag.
I'm not here to prove or disprove anything. Only that in my experience of playing the Epiphone Special and Epiphone Zakk Wylde versus this Les Paul, my brother's Standard, SG and Studio, and other Studios that my mates have owned, well, it seems that you get what you pay for...
This guitar was a beauty. I was sad to see it go, but fortunately it didn't stay with me long enough to get too attached to it. But I will buy another one one day.

Here's my Kramer...
It's another guitar that at the time I couldn't really afford.
Bought from musicyo as a white (I think) Kramer 1984 reissue. Shipped to rols of rolsguitars fame where it was striped up a la 5150. Then it was shipped over to me in the UK where I received it really happily.
Then I worried how the fuck I was going to tell my wife about it.
In the end I just decided to show her it as there was no way I was going to be able to keep it up in the garage or hidden away someplace else and not play it.
She was annoyed, but only because she had been wondering how she could arrange to get me one as a surprise and I had blown it by going and buying one.
It's alright, I know she's plotting with wahwah to buy me an Ernie Ball, but both of them are keeping schtum about it and doing very well at the moment.
Anyway, this one also came close to funding my new boiler, but fortunately it hasn't come to that...

Not too bad mate. Needs must. All I could see was my daughter freezing through the winter when I saw this guitar. So despite how well it paid or how gorgeous the finish was, there was only ever going to be one winner.

Unfortunately mate, I have never been up to Teeside. I think Grimsby is as close as I have ever got when I went over there to watch a Grimsby vs. Blackburn match on our march to the Premiership and then ran for my life to stop myself getting twatted from some crazy fans.

And finally, last but not least, here is my pride and joy, my Peavey Wolfgang Special Flametop.
Got made redundant and had a new job lined up within a week. Went down and bought her with part of the redundancy money (sweetened the then fiancee with various upgrades to the house, one of which was wooden floors which meant the guitar and floors matched).
An absolute beauty. The only time I ever hated her was when she was in the hands of wahwah and he made her sound and play the Eddie stuff effortlessly. She has never done that for me.
:p
Could never part with her, despite me never being able to play her the way wahwah played her.
I do think one of these days there will be a "Dear John" letter from her to me and wahwah will suddenly become incommunicado as she arrives on his doorstep longing for him to play her the way he played her during a Van Halen tribute gig.
But she hasn't left me just yet...

my current no:1, 6 months old, modelled after the Santana PRS 24. Mahogany body with 5A quilted maple top, ebony fretboard with birds inlay. Got a luthier stationed in bangkok, thailand to hand build this clone cutie, waited almost 11 weeks. Equipped with BareKnuckle Warpig pickups and Graphtech Ghost piezo bridge saddles. Wired to Shadow 500k push-pull pots, for series to parallel pickup switching. 1st knob is Master volume for magnetics, 2nd knob master volume for piezo. excellent tool.
my former no:1, no pic available at the moment, 1994 40th annivesary, Am std Fender Stratocaster. still love it to bits. been a good workhorse the past 12 years. retired to home use.

Say aloha to the only solid mango strat in the world, well at least in my immediate neighborhood. I made the body with my limited skills and tools (hand router, drill and jigsaw). In order to keep as much wood around the bridge and trem mechanism as possible, I carefully routed out enough wood just to fit the block/swivel and springs (I still took too much). -Why do all the strat manufacturers take so much wood out from under the bridge? :dunno: The neck is a "super wide" from Warmoth. I enlarged the dorky 50's style headstock with bondo and laminated it with an extra peice of mango. A wide neck looks more preportioned with a simi CBS style headstock, yet Warmoth refuses to make them except with the very small 50's and 60's style headstock.:stick:

This is my main recording guitar. It is a 2005 Std Squire Strat that I adore + Guitarcenter had it priced wrong so I walked out the door with it 2 years ago for $150:woot: .
I dropped in a Fender Lace Sensor Red in Neck position and a SD Hotrails in Bridge position. The mid pickup is stock and I may switch it one day, however I rarely use the middle pickup.
I also have a Black 2006 Mexican Std Strat that I am installing new pups into and will post soon.

Nice Squier Macman! Some of the best tones I've heard are from Squires and it is stunning how inexpensive they are even if you have to pay full price. I'm a huge fan of strats with non-locking bridges and nuts, the tone is so sweet! Just get rid of the middle pickup and cut a new pick-guard just for the bridge and neck pups. Plus, you will get more sustain without the extra magnetic pull on the strings.

Perhaps on the black strat, but I think the white strat looks good just the way it is. Maybe get cream knobs to match the pickups or the other way around? Strats are just too tweakable, they fill me with nothing but anxiety!:stick: :toothless:

....Speaking of which, I tore apart my mango strat and replaced all the brass parts with my trusty chrome parts. The brass bridge in combo with the very hard mango wood was too hard and dry sounding. I picked up some beautiful old sure grip Ibanez knobs which match the wood tone nicely.
I added a neck pickup just to un-van halenize the set up. Still I can't stand the sound of a neck pickup, especially when there is any kind of compression going on. It sounds too saucy to my ears. I can see why shredders like the neck pup, it is very forgiving as far as accuracy is concerned. If your finger lands anywhere near the fret, the notes seem to still ring out-saucy and cloying as they are.
Anyway, I love the look of mango wood. It's not plastic looking like most quilted, lace wood or flame woods. It is much more irregular and flowing than Koa and has a Van Gough "starry night" kind of vibe here and there. The variation in warm colors is gorgeous in different light.

This is a custom 2001 RG, I just finished up overhauling, dubbed it the RGX painted the letters into bottom right corner. It runs a set of 9's GHS Boomers, and sports a EMG Select single in middle and a set of Guitarheads matched Hexbucker pups. I am in the middle of changing out bridge saddles to the speedloader types and also whammy arm to better type. Neck is a standard wizard 2 rosewood on maple. The pic of the White Pshyco Splatter guitar is a Kramer custom I made about a year ago. Don't be fooled the only thing stock on this beast is the stock 2006 alderwood body and paint. I also painted in a set of sexy woman eyes and lips. Customed an aanj in back with ferrull washers, cuz I liked the RG's aanj so well. Neck is a refretted overhauled extra jumbo 80's banana headstock type. Maple on maple, bridge pup is a vintage Dimarzio, middle is a Ibanez S3, neck is a Seymour Duncan single coil sheilded an high output to get those Yngwie tones. Runs a set of Dean Markley extra light Magnums 008 to 038's. Action and sound is phenomenal.. gotta say this one is my favorite. Ok Blue one is a custom I made right before the RG wich is a solid alderwood body, anyones guess as to who made it? Liked the shapes of it and looks, it uses a Mightymite Motherbucker in the bridge, a Ibanez S3 in the middle, and a Single Stacker at neck. Neck is a typical rosewood on maple 22 frets tho. Sports a set of 9's GHS Boomers, custom wired with a kill switch, sounds and plays very well I made it out of spare parts I had laying around for a beater, but it rocks and has a place. Ok brings me to a Hamer Slammer Custom I made about a 2 years ago. Installed custom pups forget what kinds really, custom wiring includes kill switch and tone alter switch. Traded it to a guy that loved it and had to have it, for a crate half stack he swapped me so.. hell yeah" anyway thats some of my custom axes not all but enough to give you guitarnutz a good read hopefully? I love that SG. and the black on black Squier Strat with maple fingerboard has that classic mid to late '70's looks. (I once had a Precision like that!) I don't care wot anyone say's, guitars like these have character! Whereas these later things like Jackson, Kramer, Ibanez etc may sound and play great, but IMO they just look characterless & hideous.

Cheers mate, I'll try and get clearance for that...might cost a LOT of woman's shoes tho!!
Well, I don't know if she consulted with Santa Claus at all, but apparently my wife felt that I behaved good enough this year to buy my this beauty! I have owned my one and only Ibanez electric guitar for about 13 years, and I've known for a few years now that my next electric guitar was to be a Fender Strat. i have been mumbling about the details of what I wanted in a Strat for a couple years now, including downloading pics of models and stats that I wanted, and my wife scored an A+ on this baby! Everything on my list is in this guitar. ANd she bought it off of eBay! It is an American Stratocaster® HSS.
One of the following pics is from the Fender Web site and the other is me jamming on it for two of my most loyal fans! :D

Thanks, Pete. Yeah, my wife could not wait the extra 3 weeks for Christmas so she gave it to me early (the day she got it). For about 5 minutes I was a little disappointed that she gave it to me early, but have been glad ever since, as the tone that it puts out has elicited lots of new music and recordings since then. Then her brother gave me a Rocktron Talk Box, which I am learning how to use. Peter Frampton, I am not. but I'm trying! :toothless:

Talk boxes are cool. You have a good sense of humor and will like this - on the level I was in Sam Ash visiting my friend who works there and checking out some new guitars when a customer was getting upset with another salesman. He wanted to return a talk box that was already opened and used and insisting that the state has a law that states he has 90 days to return ANYTHING. Bullshit. Who the hell would buy that after he slobbered it all up? :bitchslap:

Yeah, a talk box is definitely not a toy that you play with and then look at your friend and say, "Here, you wanna try it?" :toothless:
I love posting this guitar :) My #1 Fender JV Strat What year was that guitar made? It has a "vintage" look to it (the headstock). I really have not played many Strats before, but one thing I wanted on mine was a humbucker down by the bridge, for that extra crunch when I needed it. But most Strats seem to have the 3 single coil pickups and sound great for blues. I am about 3 steps away from being retarded when it comes to the mechanics and technical aspects of guitars. What are your thoughts on the single coil by the bridge, for distorted guitar? Why are most made with a single coil, when it seems that humbuckers will give you more saturated crunch?

Jeff, my guitar is supposed to have a vintage look. It's based on a '57 but I replaced the timepiece correct 8 hole, single-ply pickguard with a modern 11 hole 3-ply because the single ply guards warp easy and come away from the body, as mine did. A Strat traditionally is a 3 single coil instrument. I like the humbucker too and that's why the Lonestar appealed to me. It'll never get the sound of an LP - in fact a Strat's individual strings will always shine through even a humbucker - but it is nice to have for the sonic palette. I do find that when I split the Duncan Pearly Gates in mine that I can still get that "quack" from the combination of the lead and middle pup.

I fancied a Squire for Xmas, there was one in a local shop, Squire Standard with the trem arm snapped off in the block (which I would disable anyway) for £80.00. I got a disc repair kit so I could repair the kids playstation games  At least I still have these, the acoustic I'm using is hers, and she cannot understand why I want more guitars, I am sure you all relate to that one

Aria Pro 2. Bought it for my Stepson a few years back as he joined a local band on bass. Didn't take him long to get the rhythm guitar/singer chucked out so he could take his place tho, so I eventually reclaimed it. It had been left in their practice garage unstrung for ages (He claims he had to remove the strings as they got rusty, I am more inclined to suspect that their bassist needed new strings.....). Managed to get the neck back straight, intonation had been set WAY out (I think they set it to a pretty V shape ) Yet to fix the one neck pickup that dont work no more, but the bridge one sounds fine with the tone off.
And these guys have the cheek to call themselves musicians?

The Japanese plant that arguably made the best batch of guitars for a lot of name brands in the late 70s - 80s. Highly regarded instruments. Build quality equal to or, in most cases, exceeding that of the USA built instruments of that time period.
Just a few marques include Burny, Grecco, Epiphone, Aria, Westone, and Ibanez.

Ah, I see. Nope then, it was made in Korea. Better bass than a Squire that I play occasionally at Shannon's Rockschool tho, so I am happy enough. Got it quite cheap too.

Some nice guitars in here. KC, you are a lucky boy, especially since I know you haven't been that good this year !
Can't get enough pictures of that Strat, stingx. Beautiful !
I'll have to get the wife to photograph me with my two, as it would be a good idea if only for insurance purposes !

Steve, im on the look out for a bass and ive seen one same as yours, (name, shape, pick ups) but it looks like someone has gone over a piece of wood with a sand plane. Can i ask how much you paid? The one ive seen is 140Welsh pounds and is second hand. Ive no idea how much, where much or who much im supposed to spend on the thing.:brickwall: Ive obviously seen brand new for a similar price but i thought it would be worth checking out your appraisal.
Thanks mate. :thumb:

It was in the guitar shop in Bridgend, second hand at £200, which was more than I wanted to pay. The guy very quickly came down to £160, guess he wanted shot of it :D At the time it was immaculate, the now busted pickup worked and it played real good. I would suggest trying out a few of the new, budget models then going back to try the Aria. I think it is a nice bass, and as said plays and sounds better then the Squire Precision, but I am no bassist.:dunno: Dont forget to make a silly offer ;)
