a cover of one of my favourite songs I did yesterday. It deserved more effort but I am too lazy - so it is not mixed or mastered and there are more goofs than I care to mention :D

Hey it´s about time you post again man! :woot: Never heard this tune, but I love it! It seems to have some sour lyrics to it, but at the same time a real happy vibe on those clock tic-like chordings. And man, you sure sang it out beautifully all the way! I want more of these songs, NOW, (if not I´ll stop breathing and turn red, :P).

hahaha :) thanks. This was really just to try using the variax and toneport. Normally I stick to my VG-88 and RG-470 with the hex pickup. Most of this is one take stuff hence the messiness but it kinda turned out ok.
It was nice to get recording again. I really need to get back in the saddle.

Sure man! Messiness? if you say so, haha! Damn those fingerpicking chords sounded great! (I´m already turning blue, so go grab your guitar again! :stick: ) :D

This style of music doesn't normally 'speak' to me ... but there's no denying your obvious talent mate ... and that's what counts in my book.
So that's the Variax, eh? sounds nice.

Like where Are the blobs :headscratch: , i hear nothing but a great song . Everything sounds sweet , tones balance levels , the lot. New one for me but i like the vibe , it plods along with an airy groove lots of gaps and space , makes for a enjoyable listen . Glad your back dude , long been missing , consider your latest song nominated , and whats more ..........

Cheers Linda - you have always encouraged me to do more. In other words .. you kicked me up the arse to get me back in gear. Much respect to you
[QUOTE=Ukelele;14137]Sure man! Messiness? if you say so, haha! Damn those fingerpicking chords sounded great! (I´m already turning blue, so go grab your guitar again!
Lol - I mean messiness in that there are a few dodgy notes on the vocals and some timing inconsistencies on guitar and bass. Thanks mate.
Excellent work on this m8, lol if this is lazy then i would like to hear your non lazy skills hehe
Thanks chum!! I guess it is more unfinished than I imagined is more in line with what I meant hahaha

hahhaaaa!! cheers John ;) I sort of explained what I meant above if you get my drift :thumb: thanks for the kind words and cheers for picking up on the bass .. I was pretty happy with the sound and feel on that.
This style of music doesn't normally 'speak' to me ... but there's no denying your obvious talent mate ... and that's what counts in my book.
So that's the Variax, eh? sounds nice.
To be fair television were not normally this "soft" - they were a quirky New Wave/Punk act in the US that could really play. I am a big fan of them. Thanks for the props though mate :thumb:
And yeah the variax is pretty solid on the guitar models - I wouldn't want to use it for 12 string work or virtual alternate tunings though.
So here's proof that mixing and mastering is just a waste of time
Sounds great! Great song too, never heard it before.
LOL!!! thanks Naif - check out Marquee Moon - it is the title track of Televisions debut way back in the 70's - it is a classic.

Porty your voice has a great Lennon/Gallagher edge but still sounds unique here. That lead/melody guitar sound that comes in is huge, really this mix is as solid as it gets :)

First off, it's fantastic to hear your posts again!!! This was wonderful! I really loved many parts of it. The bass, the vocals, the guitars, the overall feel and groove. I seem to be out of nominations for mp3 of the month, but I certainly consider this of that calibur!! It's very classy done!! :) :thumb:
I think your ear has really come a long way. For being unmastered, I think this is one of the best productions I've heard from you. The bass and guitar tones sound fantastic and your vocal work really, really fits this song perfectly. This would get 15 stars from me, if I could vote a few times!!

blimey!! thanks - I really didn't try to mix this at all. all the fx and tones were recorded wet and I just tried to get a good balance for the mix down. It was a lucky break. Cheers

Arrrghh!!! I am so not worthy of your praise mate. Thanks for listening and many thanks for the props. As for sounding unique ... that is totally you Eric. Best unsigned original guitarist I have ever heard.

Thank you very much Joe. As I said earlier on this was recorded wet and it just turned out to be fairly solid as it stood so I went with it. As for my ear? lol I hope it is getting better because I have invested too much money in gear hahah. Thank you again mate - it means a lot.

Pure and crystalline instruments. Clear, fresh and paired down to the absolute essentials here, LOVELY. That is quite a hefty vocal to take on and you gave it a memorable performance. Where the hell have you been lately!?!?:thumb:

I know 'Marquee Moon' and was selling it to one of my students as he should listen where The Strokes stole it from. He heard 'MM' and was bowled over. This one means nothing to me at all but has that looseness that I remember Television having. A ballad whilst not being a ballad...more Lou Reed than commercial. Anyway, I like how it sits and I like the vocal and the playing. Great song done well (even if I don't know it!)

Where have I been? all over the world mate. Bahrain, Diego Grcia and soon to greece. I am really pleased you got the spirit of this track and as for the vocal it was a bit of a shouter hahaha

Many thanks Chris - the strokes did indeed use televisions style to good use on quite a few songs. Lou Reed? Maybe - that is probably down to John Cales influence on the band as he produced MM. Many thanks for the listen.

thanks for all the cool comments on this one. I am still a little embarrased by the roughness of the track (especially the vocals) but it is honest and played from the heart, so to speak.
The song is the show stopper on Marquee Moon for me. And this actually started out as an experiment for me - I was trying to get some good tones from the toneport and I think it paid off. The guitars are a little bit dry-er than I normally risk but the original is so pure I had to risk it.
Thanks again for the comments :)
