View Full Version : Slide Guitar Stomp
I did this song a number of months ago.
On this I was trying to get raw, low down on the street Blues. I like the quick slide-ups on this one - almost like I'm trying to make a popping slide sound. Neat trick man.
It's a one taker playing my Fender F-210.
No backer - just one guitar. Reverb added with CoolEdit.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!
And thanks for listening too.
This was a song I made for Music Supervisor - a place that sells my guitar music. I get a lot of listens from them, so far no license though.

Ya know what macman? I really don't know what tuning it was! Really! I was sort of experimenting - I think it's an open G variant. I was messing around with Open A at the time, but I may have changed it.
I was using Open A - which is nothing more than tuning your guitar to the old Hillbilly A chord at the second fret.
And then Open G would be DGDGBD - but I don't think I was using that on this track.
Lap Steel? Pedal Steel? Those things have 10 strings and are usually tuned to E9th or E7th. A whole other animal.
Wahoo!!
Man that was great!!
Dug the feel and sound, great slidestuff!

I think it is the open G tuning you're using, actually, cause I can jam along to it nicely with my C harp! Splendid track to jam some harp to, if I may say so.
Sounds great the way it is too. Always love your acoustic slide playing. You've got a great sound.
Mind if I record some harp on this and post it up here some time?

By all means do so - I would love to hear what you come up with Naifuzan.
Please let us all know when you post it - I will be very curious to hear you.
Ya know what? What I think is going on here is this. It IS in the key of G, but tuned to the A chord form. (Hillbilly A Chord at the second fret) Thats what I'm thinking anyway.

Thanks a lot Rid!

I've heard Naif blow on the harp before - he wails. So I can only imagine what he'll do on this track here. Something great, we know that!
Slide isn't that hard actually. Hell I should make a webcam video of the basics sometime and slap it up here.
What did it for me was a long time ago when EVH was on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine back like 1983 or 84 or something - it was called the "Super Chops Issue" - and in it Johnny Winter listed out all his Open Tunings for Slide Guitar in an article he did. That was like a gold mine to me - and off I went.
It just takes a wee little bit of time to get the feel down is all - so you can get "that sound" of the street Blues.

Maybe sometime.
No time this weekend - I'm headed up to the great north woods to freeze my ass off.

Actually, there are many Lap Steels with 6 strings, and you just use the normal open tunings, D, E, A, and G. If you want a sound like old Hank Williams songs, go for open G6 tuning, which is basically open G with the high E string left alone instead of tuning it down to D. And PJ, some nice playing you have going on there.
