I beleive in modding a guitar to suit your taste. I started back in the 70's. I play classic rock with a taste of Texas blues rock. This is what I did to my axes.

1999 MIM Fender Strat. Maple neck. Texas Specials in the neck and middle. I readjusted the pole pieces. Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. Shielded cavity with gold leafing. Black 3 ply pickguard.

2000 Epiphone Les Paul extreme. Mahogany/rosewood set neck. Mahogany guitar. Gibson #35 Grover tuners, and Gibson hardware. Gibson 57 PAF reissue p/u neck, Dimarzio Super Distortion 1 in the bridge. Switchcraft toggle with the same pots rewired with original 60's Gibson wiring. Special Epiphone oyster pickguards.

2001 Bluesville Telecaster. Hand made. Fender MIA neck p/u neck , Seymour Duncan Jim Donahue in the bridge. 2005 Fender MIA Telecaster bridge, 2004 MIC large headstock maple neck.

2006 Fender MIM Anniversary Special solid ash special edition Fender Stratocaster. Fender Alinco 5 pickups readjusted pole pieces in neck and middle, Dimarzio Fast Track 2 in the bridge. Fender licensed large headstock 22 fret maple neck.

Lol well i use a self built guitar m8, thats how much i love doing my own mods to things.
I did modify my old fender squire over the years, but i think you can mod a sack of shit to the cows come home , they still sound rough.
I do make alot of mods currently, but they are more electronic based:)

Cool idea for a thread :) I'll start at the latest...

I have a handbuilt Ash Aurum which has 3 P90's. As much as I love the guitar, the pups were a comprimise so I've just laid out some cash on a set of Rio Grande P90's for it.

Mexican Standard Strat 2006 - pups binned and a set of Sky Tweedtones are in there currently - they will be going the journey shortly. Red Tortoishell pickguard fitted and also a tremsetter.

Les Paul Classi PP - Classic 57 pups installed, RS Tone kit and the last mod was locking tuners.

I made a Strat body out of Ash for one of my strats, this started off just oiled, then painted in two tone sunburst and now its heavily reliced. Thats had everything possible done to it!

My other guitars have been similarly fiddled with. I change pups without exception, as invariably the tone isn't to my taste or I just want something different. I'm loving Rio Grande pickups at the moment, I have a couple of their humbuckers in my Vee - they are extreme!

yeah I've had some great cheapies and some terrible cheapies - you just know with the bad ones that its not worth doing, no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd.
