Hey guys , im thinking about getting a Pod XT maybe soon, i was just wondering if they are better then a V-Amp 2?
I get some very nice tones out of the V-amp 2 but i always feel it lacks in more of the Vai or Satch tones.
Am i looking for just for the above tones? no im looking for a good variety of tones which cover the above and maybe more to my suited styles like neo-classical, also looking for a good Steve Morse sound as im stepping into his playing style now and in the near future:)
Im not looking for a normal amp, just the Pod Xt or something in its price range(£200 ish):thumb:
Any suggestions?

I have really enjoyed your recordings thus far. I am not sure if the POD XT will give you much advantage over the V-AMP2 . However I like the idea of the USB interface on the POD XT. I like recording via USB as opposed to straight into soundcard.
I have always fancied a POD XT myself. I have a Vamp2 but hardly use it cos it does not have USB out.
I think the POD XT would be a nice fit for you and may open up some nice new tones for you.
Maybe buy one and try. Over here in the states places like guitar center give you 30 days to return it if not satisfied. I am sure it is the same way in Blighty....but I have not lived there for 7 years so cannot say.
I had the XT LIVE for about a year and enjoyed that I did however get latency issues...but i must admit I did not have as much RAM in my computer back then.
I think safest thing it to trial one with your guitar bro.

I have an RP200 which I seldom use, and had it connected through the line in. Later on I grabbed a PODXTL. This one is connected also through the line in (I prefer to use my PC soundcard instead of using the POD as a soundcard) and I use the USB strictly for dialing the tones through the computer. Now this is a great advantage if you are usually playing sat in front of your computer like I do, it´s a whole different thing than having to reach down for the knobs on the RP (having a foot pedal it wasn´t wise to lay it on the desk). As for tones, I´m pretty happy with both, maybe the POD has a wider range of them and it´s more tweakable. I´m not sure if you can dial tones with the vamp2 through the PC, but it deffinately is a cool and well thought idea.

Yeah that is the thing with the V-amp that you go into your soundcard, but my soundcard is far from brilliant as its pretty basic, so perhaps going through the USB would be better.
I think the V-amp is excellent , its done me a valuable service and still probably will even if i get a PodXt, but im branching out to new styles, some styles need new tones, so thats one of the reasons im looking into buying one.
I guess what soundcard you use does make alot of diffrence to, but i always find myself finding new tones and thinking they sound bloody brilliant, i record with them and it sounds nothing like what i was hearing when i was playing lol, im not sure if thats the V-amp or more down to the soundcard:headscratch:
Anyway i apreciate your feedback guys:)

I think the USB interface is the best way to go. Second reason for the XT is the free stuff, updates, plug-ins, add-ons, support etc is exemplary. Mine's looking well-worn out now but it's given me every tone I've asked it for (except John Sykes on 'Is This Love'). I've done VH, SRV, Lynch, Zakk, ZZ Top, Gary Moore...and it's all come out with plenty of everything.
No idea about the V-Amp but I'm sure it's great. The USB would be the deciding factor for me after everything else.

im like you m8, got a shitty soundcard but with the podxt usb, straight into pute..into sonar. the pods asio drivers give me zero latency.
i use headphones into the pod so i dont get on no ones tits in the house too, i use it as a soundcard for gaming..oh..and theres a million tones for it aswell!
after reading the above, i seem like a line 6 salesman! :D i aint honest!
regards,
jim.

The PodXT is awesome. I had a Vamp as well, wish I still had it actually after hearing guys like you and MuRpH:thumb: Another option, if your strictly looking for a PC recording solution, is GuitarPort. Same technology as PodXT, only cheaper with less amps/effects, etc (but you can purchase the model packs seperately to get the same as XT). The main difference is GuitarPort uses your computers processor and PodXT has it's own, so your tied to the PC. Anyway, all the patches are interchangable and it has USB as well:)

Yeah i hear the V-amp pro is good, but i just want something away from the V-amp series so i can alternate between them for tones:)

Hehe well its a smashing piece of equipment, still getting used to it but so far so good, love the tones and the interface of the whole thing:)
Things like Satriani tones or Vai its pretty much spot on, still tweaking for my Blackmore settings although i will have to try a cover of something to judge it really.
I guess its like anything, once you have used it for awhile, then setting up stuff on it is second nature:woot:
Thanks for all the useful feedback guys, im glad its part of my kit now:)

I have the Vamp Pro with S/PDIF digital output, so that goes straight into my soundcard's digital coax input (M-Audio Audiophile 24/96: £50). I can tweak my tones with Behringer's free downloadable software via the MIDI interface from/to the same soundcard.
I also drive either a Valvestate AVT275 2x12 combo, OR my Sound City/Dallas Arbiter MkIV 120W valve head with the Vamp for band rehearsals/live gigs ... both into a Behringer stereo 4x12 ... and it sounds ferkin INCREDIBLE!!
Makes me happy and puts a big smile on my face ... and the Vamp essentially cost me nothing ... literally!!

Congrats on the purchase! The PODxt is a beautiful thing. I probably would have quit the guitar two years ago if I had not purchased one. They seem to hold up pretty well too.:woot:
...oops, old thread.:o
