does anybody think there should be a chat room here? that way, we can talk without having to refresh pages all the time. just a thought.:dunno:

I'd probably say no. There was a chat room on G101 but it was barely used at all. People seem to not bother with it. Its a novelty kind of deal if you ask me. If two people meet on the site its easier to add eachother to an IM service... a chat room on here just seems to be a waste of space.

i guess you're right db. i just wish i could download the paltalk thing, but me pops don't want that. it ain't my computer.

From a purely personal point of view a chat room would be great, the one on 101 did get used rather a lot at times and was a great place to catch uip, but thats only imo

Hmm i can't see a problem with having one, i think with the other GB live thing that it puts alot of ppl of cos you need the paltalk thingy, i think its far easier just to stick a normal chat channel up and use that:thumb:

the Paltalk Room is barely open now cause nobody seemed to really be bothering. If Eric were able to open a chatroom with voice on here it would certainly be great fun. kinda like the one Rick has on sixstringheaven perhaps. but yeah... i think its possibly a bit of a bandwidth hog.

i think it would be cool just to have a simple chat prog on here. I think its a pretty cool feature.

i (or if theres anyother php programmers roaming around GB) could whip up a lightweight multi user chatroom, it wont integrate with VB though (i.e. - a link to it). instead of a resource heavy beast of a vb plugin ;)

They have a couple available for vb already, it's just a matter of justifying it with the few active users we already have. In one way it's cool to be able to chat live but it usually doesn't get much use. On G101 with all those thousands of users it was mostly empty.

In fairness though Eric G101 is a diffrent kind of forum, i think most of us who are on this forum are pretty friendly with each other and enjoy having a natter with each other.
G101 always came over to me as being a place for large ego's and arrogance, obviously if you didn't shine someones shoes, then you were a nobody over there:wtf:
On here everyone is helpful(including me i hope), and we get none of this bias rubbish:thumb:
So i think you might be suprised how many ppl might actually use it, im about alot on the evening so i would definetly pop in and out :)

Okay, there seems to be enough interest in it. Have a look at the menu on the top right of the home page and you will see the link to it. For now it's stock and chat only, I will work on making additions as I get time.

looks like the novelty has worn off. an average of 4-5 people per night has whittled down to 4-5 throughout the week at varying times. predictable really. shame though. seemed to cause a few people to get some lag and PC issues. Me included or i would have been in more often. :(

Actually, even though it does have some issues with the PC it does not stop people from using it if they wanted, it's been full plenty of times, the issues were minor. It's slow because the novelty has worn off like you mentioned. If I were to put in a brand new one with no issues, it would most likely be just as inactive.

I for one would use it more if i knew it wasn't gonna fuQQ my computer up like the current one tends to do. But i hear ya. You're probably right for the majority of us. But a couple here and there would be more inclined if it wasnt so buggy and PC hating lol.

Pretty much my thoughts too. It pretty much does the job... just does it without any flair... and so we keep on goin with it lol.
