View Full Version : Middle-Eastern Sand Boogie
Well, I posted this up on G101 at one point, and I know that a few of you have heard it before (Goport and PodGod, to name a few who commented). But seeing how there is currently no risks of clogging up the board with reposts :D , I shall post it up here as well. This is the product of improv jamming over a few drum beats for quite a while, and then editing them down to the parts that I thought might have potential for further development. I did bass and guitars on this one. There is some leadwork near the end.

That's right, new board so it's all new here :D This is nice and catchy man, I like the bass riff in the middle and where it leads into the rythm again it has a rush feel to it. Way to shred at the end there man, nice licks!

this is dark mate! lovely little play around the pedal tones. You have to develop this into a fully fledged tune. And .... when are we going to get a vocal debut mate :) the lead riffs in this are very clever by the way :)
Thank you, Lawrence. You have been very loyal to this tune.
Regarding vocals, I may have to begin work on something this weekend, as my wife will be out of town and I can have some focused recording time. I have a few tunes that I want to try out vocals on...Secret Agent Man, a few Tenacious D songs, and a couple Doors tunes I like to sing at Karaoke night. Problem is, I have a couple half-finished RUSH recordings going right now ("A Passage to Bangkok" and a tune from "The Necromancer" off of Caress of Steel), so I'm not sure if I should finish those up or start on a few vocals tunes??? I also would enjoy to work on the ideas that I did not have time to finish on your drum beat tune that was the subject of MP3 of the month a while back. I have lots more ideas to add to what I posted and I would like to extend some song parts a bit (add a few measures via copy/paste of the drum line) and add a reprise on the end. I had lots of ideas for a slightly revised song structure but wanted to stick to the original drum line because of the contest. I also ran out of time near the end and threw together a last minute solo toward the end that needs to be polished up and re-recorded. I have problems finishing projects, so having that solid drum line in place really helped me string together ideas (something I struggle with sometimes). Anyway, I am rambing now, but hopefully I will have something new to post by Sunday night. Thanks for your comments and encouragement. :)
Hey, speaking of which...I am going to throw this tune up here because I don't want to start a new thread for it, as I intend to finish polishing it up and will post a new thread when I do that. But I thought I'd post it here since I was just talking about it, and I don't think Eric has heard this one before...I played guitars and bass here. Again, major kudos to Goport for some really impressive and pro-grade drum programming/production. It is obvious that lots of detail work went into making this sound as naturally human as possible. Throw on top of that the obvious tip of the hat towards the stylings of Neil Peart and I was in heaven working with this wacky rhythm.

I kinda really enjoyed this....the different tones was a plus....and some darkness to it with a build up to the finish. I agree that the Bass riff is catchy and top notch...:thumb: ...and I agree that the guitar work is very cleverly done..http://www.freewebtown.com/guitartracks/clap.gif

I like them both ...i find it hard replying to original instrumentals , The reason being is i dont do tec talk i would get lost lol...i can only say .. these sound great :thumb:
Thank you so much, Willy Lawrence and Linda! I will never, ever get tired of any references or comparisons you make between any of my music and RUSH. I know I'm not worthy, but I cannot deny that it makes me feel good. :D
Linda...no worries about your defecit of "Tech Talk" on the instrumental music. If you say you enjoyed listening to it, then that's about as technical as you need to get for me! :)
Thanks again gang for your time and interest.

Really cool tunes...some terrific ideas in these!!! Gr8 guitar and bass work...can really hear the Rush influences!!:woot:
Robbie, you're a good man. Either that or you just know that I am a sucker for a Rush comparison compliment. Either way, it is good to see you over on the light side of The Force! ;)

stop clogging up the boards with re-posts. just kidding. this has a lot of potential but its time for you to finish some stuff. wife out of town is a perfect time to get to work for a newleywed. once she gets back she will be demanding marathon type sex and you won't have time or energy to get anything acoumplished. now feed the dogs and get to work
Thanks, Joe. We have similar tastes in music, so I appreciate your comment on the creativity.
eamon...not sure if you are trying to encourage me or give me shit. None-the-less, thanks for having a listen.

One cool blend of mid eastern-Spanish Fandango E-F vamp at the beginning, all in a warm sounding way as if it was an early eighties band sound, sort of The Cure meets The Police, cool song man !
Thanks man. You are the first to mention the Police influence. It was not intentional, but I am a HUGE Police fan and have all their albums and realized in listening back to this that there was a bit of their influence here. Thanks for the listen and comments. :thumb:
+1 on the Police feel and slight sound alikes, and it defently also has those Rush elements going on.

i think its a great tune with lots of interesting musical moments:D
thanks for sharing it here man :thumb: :thumb:
Thanks Rid for having a listen. Glad the POlice influnece was apparent to another Police fan. :) i think its a great tune with lots of interesting musical moments:D Thanks, Eddie. I highlighted this quote because I often struggle with constructing song structures and often times end up jamming out a series of interesting musical moments. That's pretty much all this recroding was. :p Love the avatar, BTW.

Cool stuff KC. Definately had a cool groove to it. Nice job:thumb: .
Thanks for digging up this old corpse, Matt. :)
I really wish I had new stuff to post, but have been just too busy these last 6 months.:upset: Although I agree that the "Dark Police" tune is a post-worthy tune, I just reviewed it, and I think we could stand to revisit/re-record that one before posting up here. It It has mega-potential and deserves a little polishing (one of my faves from our collection of captured improv jams). Maybe something we could work on when you come over to jam on Saturday.
Haha, thanks for commenting and checking it out, Naif. I do recall conceeding to your tune in the contest, but was fully accepting of your victory. It was a nail-biter during the voting period! But I was totally cool with coming in second to your blues skills.
Thanks for having a listen, SC350! :thumb: I always appreciate your comments.
