Ive been working on this guitar for the last two months. I live in china so was able to find someone who could build the body and neck for me easily and remarkably cheaply, by supplying a bunch of 5150 and Kramer Focus pics. I then handled the paintwork and had them finish off the final coats and hardware. I installed a floyd and an awesome SD custom custom pickup. I was very pleasantly suprised by the way this guitar played and especially its tone. Its got the best tone of all my humbucker guitars and seriously actually sounds 'more van halen' than my other guitars. Some magic has come through into its tone - not just its looks!
Not meant to be a perfect replica but was certainly fun to make and play!
Cheers

Looks cool to me.
One I may try myself, now that I already have one. Just to see if I can actually do it, and it won't worry me then if I end up messing it up!
:toothless:
Looks good to me though. Mine also has a great sound out of it. It's a 1984 reissue with an 84T in it. I don't know if it is similar spec to the SD in yours, but it sure sounds sweet with the Eruption setting on my PODxt !
:woot:
Hope she brings ya as much enjoyment as mine brings me mate !

Thats very cool, nice job. A friend of mine had a Kramer clone like yours except you did a much better job!.. and his didn't have the right tone. Great work.

Thanks guys...beware the painting is tricker than it looks but rewarding to do.
Mondolo, weirdly I never used the 'eruption' setting on my pod xt much because it never sounded as good as the plexi variac preset with all my other guitars, yet this new custom guitar sounds fantastic through the eruption preset! Its got a really deep tone to it.

Wish I had one!

I dunno. Maybe you just need the stripes for the tone to come out ?
:dunno:
I love my Kramer through that setting though. Take the phaser off and you've got an awesome general purpose tone.

Lovely guitar mate, im no VH specialist, but i know the effort that go's into building a guitar from scratch, and the magical feeling you get when its finished and as importantly, works lol :)
On the sound side, i think home made guitars can have some mighty sweet tones, sometimes better then bought ones, but i guess some of it down to taste, i know i wouldn't change my Av-1 for anything, and i bet your pretty attached to your new baby already :)
Great stuff and congrats :thumb:
