I recently had to purchase a new MOBO for my PC as it went kapput due to one of the 4 capacitors-condensers bursting out. I know my way out at programming specific stuff for my work issues, but on the other hand I am an absolutely ignorant as to deal with sound-software (besides making music and a whole other issues lol!). I have an Audigy LS sound card, and a Pod XTL which can (could?) hold the task as a soundcard, but only for the E-guitar, not for the mike (for rec the acoustic guitar). I reckon after reading a bunch of tech forums my crappy soundcard will not hold asio drivers, but I remember dealing with the prob in such a way I had it set with almost no latency, back in the day I started picking up the guitar and recording. Thing is I just can´t remember what the hell I did for it to work (yet another reason to stop my addiction to orange juice on weekends, :P). I can record (with Audacity 1.2, which I have always have used, as it´s very simple to handle) with the POD acting as the sound card but in a real weird way, having to throw out any track I played over, but I can´t record anything with the mike. :dunno: Anyways, I appreaciate any help...

I feel your pain. You and I have the same soundcard. (Yes I know it sucks).
It will not support ASIO drivers. There is latency. There is a bunch of other crap to deal with as well.
I have no idea other than to ask for more info. Are you not able to record at all, or is there lag? Check the Motherboard as well. Perhaps there is onboad audio and it needs to be disabled in the BIOS.

Thank you very much for the response, I really appreciate it. Iīve messed around with the MOBO, everything seems alright. The thing is a bit strange, because there is not only latency when I record anything, it just seems to sound at a different tempo from the track Iīm recording onto. I can use the POD as the recording device within Audacity, but then I cannot use the mike for the acoustic guitar. I downloaded Asio4all (which I think I never tried before). It does not seem to be the solution. Iīll keep on reading and reading solutions, lol, there must be a way to fix it up like it was before. If I only could remember how I did it, haha! .
Could you please tell me how you have your soundcard and DAW settings? Since it is the same one, maybe I can get it right. I donīt mind if it has latency, as you can always drag the track a bit, but that different tempo thingie is a pain. Thanks again Serg!:thumb:

Uke What I use is Cool Edit Pro V2. These settings helped me get back in sync.
Hopefully they help. I use a Behringer MX602A mixer and SM-57's. Other than that, it's the PODxt.

Ok many thanks again Sergio!. As of today, I still havenīt been able to fix the SB card yet, and canīt record with the mike through the pod. I will try the settings you have, lets see if I can fit them in Audacity, if not Iīll go ahead and grab Cool Edit. I guess I should go an buy one of those mixers, mainly for the microphone.

I have to be honest here and say ... if you want to record then consider getting an audio card as opposed to a generic pc soundcard. soundcards are usually made first and formost for the pc environment and games.
Provided you don't need all that, I would suggest:
M-Audio Mobile Pre (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOMOBILEPRE) at $149 - a usb audio card with phantom power support (for condensor microphones) and all the inputs/outputs you need.
M-Audio Fast Track (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOFASTTRACK) AT $99 which does not have 48v phantom power but is suitable for mics and guitars (plus it has stomp box emulation apparently)
And speaking of stomp box effects the Line 6 UX1 (http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINTPUX1) is a pretty decent bit of kit at $129. Also you can transfer any of the line6 add in packs between the two. It doesn't have the phantom power option (the UX2 @ $199 does.) I bought the UX2 when it was released and I really like it. I ended up buying all the expansion packs for it and it is a podxt in all but name. The only potential downside is that it requires a fairly decent spec pc 2GHz or more to run in a DAW with no problems.
I am sorry I can't give you a cost free solution though :(

Yeah, Iīm starting to think about purchasing a decent soundcard, I guess that would be a straight ahead solution, instead of spending priceless hours on the weekend trying to figure out some solution for the old one. Iīll go ahead and check out the first card you have mentioned. I like the idea of that phantom power support, as the mike I use really needs it, I always have had to pump up the sound after recording with it. Thanks man, really appreciate it!

i only have onboard sound [disabled] so i use my podxt for everything.
i take it you have played with these settings?
" canīt record with the mike through the pod."
why not??

Thanks Slicer, I appreciate your help man. I have tried using the mike through the pod many times before, but I just dont like how the acoustic sounds on it. Anyways, after reading endless threads dealing with out of sync recording issues (none of which apparantly worked for me BTW, but I sure have learned tons of things), I think I finally found a solution for it last night. I set the project rate to 48000 Hz, and recording track to mono. I did not have it like that before this all started, but it seems to work now. I can always duplicate the recording track for merging both into a single stereo channel, no big issue. At least itīs solved for now, but I am really interested in that phantom power support card L mentioned. Iīll take a look and see if they sell it around here over the weekend. And now back to work! LOL
Again thanks for your replies,
Cheers,
Tony

I send my mike thru my GuitarPort (a teenage, retarded son of the POD if you like) and by messing with various amps, cabinets and effects (not just the vocal presets they give you) I got something I was happy with.
You might wanna try that...but then you may have a more professional ear than I :dunno: :headscratch:

Absolutely no way to fix it. Thanks for the replies guys, but I just think I must go grab a new PC. This one is giving me too many headaches lately. I said 48000 hz seemed to fix it. No way. After you record anything with the mike it just speeds up, not to mention if you do so over another track. And I just cant seem to work out the mike with the pod, I just dont like how it sounds. Oh well, time to scratch a lil doe off my ex, my house, family health issues, LOL! Itīs a bit time for spending some doe on myself I think .

Well I went ahead and grabbed me an M-Audio Fast Track Pro this afternoon after work. Just finished installing it, after a bit of sorting out the drivers busyness ( the cd drivers it comes with wont work if you have service pack2 on winXP, so I had to download new ones from the site for that, no big deal). 250 Euros, (300 bucks more or less) for the damn thing, lol! Funny enough it would have cost 4-5 less if I ordered it through the web, being easier for me to just walk down a few blocks to the damn store, unbelievable, but hey, this is the "South" lol!.
Anyways, seems to work cool, I need to grab a Y-cable for the mic and a 500 ma adapter for the phantom power to properly give enough juice (USB only gives 9mv, not the 48 needed for my condenser mic), but Iīm still happy with it. Lets see who it manages, I hope itīs worth what I paid for it.

I hate Soundblaster... I had an Audigy as well, and it acted stupid after I did a defrag. There was no way for me to record anything after that.
As far as the timing issues, check your Global sttings in Audacity, and make sure it's the same as the one in Audigy on the control panel.
If you have one at 44,100, and the other at 48,000 bingo.
It sounds like it's not you computer, but the soundcard. Is it a PCI?
There are so many options now that are in the same price range as those Audigys.
Try an M Audio Audilphile 24/96.
Great soundcard for under 200 bux, and very pro.
If you do get another soundcard, remember the Audigy has a wierd way of installing itself. I had a bugger of a time getting all of it off my PC. I had to do some registry work as well.
The I had to reset my PCI slots in DOS.
Good luck!

Hey man, did ya read my last post? Thanks anyways for the feedback man, apreaciate it :). I went and grabbed the Y-cable at a mall a few hours ago, but couldnīt find the 500ma 9v adapter, I guess Iīll try tomorrow morning. Iīve been messing with it a bit a while back, and it seems to be a real nice gadget. Hopefully tomorrow morning my batteries will be at a fuller capacity to try it out at a full.
