How do you guys do it?
What would you guys recommend to get that warmth that I have been hearing on this site?
An example of what I am talking about it on "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles...you can hear the soft breakup on John's vocals...and then the saturation of tubes on that LP. I would love that.
Ideas?

Serg, you need a very delicate condenser mic and a good tube preamp.
Something like the Rode NT1A and a ADL 600.

Thanks Pete. I appreciate your advice.
I do have a Behringer B-2 condenser, but never use it. Too sensitive for my sound room. Picks up a guitarists finger squalks from the next block. :) But, I will break it out and give it some experimentation.
The ADL600 seems an amazing product..but the coin on that beast is high. I was thinking more on the lines of the presonus tube pre? But I guess you get what you pay for.
To be honest, I like a minimalist approach. You would laugh at my gear. (SM-57 into a Behringer MX602A into CoolEdit). No wonder I can't get that tone!! lol.

a basic vocal vst should do the trick. Cubase sx3 comes with a few as standard and I am sure there are free ones that do the same job. I will have a look around later.

Thanks Goport. I have Audition as well which supports vst's iirc.
But this thing sure looks nice: (from a historical point of view).

Sergio, use that Beringer condenser and try one of the ART Tube preamps. They range in price from 49-120 bucks. They go a pretty good job too. I don't have terribly expensive mics either. I do love my MXL condenser. It really shines on recording strings, such as my wife's cello. Really nice.

I picked up a Presonus Tube Pre today Pete. Got a great deal on it. If it sucks, I have 14 days to return it. Thanks man. :thumb:

How's that working out for you? Was it a hit or a miss?

I like it Pete. I need to rethink my levels and tweak some settings, but you can hear it on the cover Ukelele and I did of U2 Gloria. The 20db pad and the 80hz rumble filter are a nice addition. Does bring out something new imo.
