View Full Version : The King (or Queen) of Collaborations
One of the great benefits of this site (and g101) is the wonderful community of supportive musicians and the chance to collaborate with so many talented people from all over the world. It's a lot of fun sharing the songs with family and friends and explaining that the singer or guitarist was from another country. I'm not claiming to have done the most collabs here, but I have been making a conscious effort to work with a wide variety of folks and thought it would be interesting to list some of the projects so far. Feel free to share yours too. I happen to be stuck in the center of the United States (Kansas) and there wouldn't be any other way for me to work with this many talented people.
Here's a list off the top of my head of songs (or artists) and collobarators and where they're from (hopefully I got the geography right). There are few people I've worked with on more than one occasion, so the total number of songs is really growing (about 25 songs or so). Hope I didn't leave anybody off the list.
Live Wire and an untitled acoustic song - jimihendrix (from Canada)
My Baby and Me (original song) - Rain (Alabama)
Highway - lbdemoss (Dallas, Texas)
April Wine, Bad Company, REO Speedwagon and a couple of original songs - rjmjajrj (Minnesota)
When the Nighttime Comes (my brother's original song) - SG Std (Las Vegas) and Zeppy (??)
Numb (Linkin Park) - Supercharged 350 (Florida?)
Number of the Beast - evilpenguin (Denmark)
Bad Company, King Crimson and Iron Maiden - JPF (Florida)
Ambrosia - Eamon7 (Wisconsin)
Styx, Kansas, Ambrosia - Geordie (England)
Not Fade Away (original) - LaceGuitarPlayer (??)
Clocks (Coldplay) - Linda (England)
Entre Nous (Rush) - goport (England)
Hunger Strike (Temple of the Dog) - rdelozier (??)
Mind Riot (Soundgarden) - Johnny Lokke (Kansas)
Tiny Dancer (Elton John) - 3fingers (New Orleans)
Welcome Back My Friends (ELP) - JPF and DannyBoy (England)
I'm still making the rounds and searching for new projects. If we haven't done anything together yet, you might be next. Plus, I'm willing to help out anyone else; maybe if you need someone to record a live bass guitar part or something.

Yeah, it's really cool to be able to do these worldwide collabs!
Sitting at home in sweden doing tracks with people from all over USA and england feels pretty amazing.

Awesome thread! It is definately cool to be able to collab w/ all kinds of musicians the way we do here (and there...). The internet can be an amazing tool for sure! Jamming and collabing w/ people face to face is great, but there is something very cool and rewarding about how it's done here. :thumb:

Phew, thats neat man! I´ve done only a few jams through the net, Naifuzan, Rjfoster, ozzyman, Pure, come up to mind, and I have the privilege of playing at home once in a while with a couple of amazing guitarrists who are close friends. I sure would like to do some collabs with people on the net, I personally find it very amusing, especially on original stuff, with which I have a lot of fun with. Maybe one day,..:)

Awesome thread topic... Outside of the stuff i've done with SC350, it's been a while since I've collaborated like I used to. Looking forward to having the time again real soon. One thing that sticks out, are the "Don't Drop the Ball" jams that I used to host at g101. There would be 4-6 people involved at a time, and we had wide ranges of styles and influences participating which really made it interesting and fresh.
BTW Rain... I feel the same way. Means a lot to me to share this stuff with everyone. I've always enjoyed the pieces we've worked on together, very special to me.

Great thread :)
I've had the pleasure of working with some great musicians, formed a G3 band, and covered some tracks that im very proud of, something that would never of happened without this great community :yourock:
I only got into making backings through G101, which opened up so many options as far as covers went, and makes choosing a cover an actual choice instead of midi or BT hunting to see whats out there.
So in short, without the community here, i'd probably still be a below average guitarist dreaming of covering all the tracks i love.
A big thanks to Kenny, John, Justin and Mart who are my main partners in crime, im honoured to have worked with you all, and look forward to again :thumb:
The same go's to everyone im yet to work with ;)
I appreciate the stories and everyone sharing their experiences. I haven't done very many jam collaborations; probably not that confident about my playing skills in comparison with some of the other players around here. It is another great way to collaborate and mingle with the online community.

Me nither  , im having a shakey spell on a big track atm, and holding the whole project up, lucky for me im the project leader on it or i'd of been sacked by now i think :)
Its still good fun though, and worth the effort when its finished and sounding nice :)

Gets me too.
I never knew until last October when wahwah invited me to join up at G101 that such a community existed.
You've probably heard this tale a million times ... I was slowly wasting away ... hit the big four-oh ... a guitarist 'has been' ... worn down by 'real' life of families, homes, children ... while dreaming of times & bands & gigs & gig tales gone past ... then suddenly I was launched into this whole new vibrant world of fellow guitarists all over the world ... and playing together with some of 'em .. and many more to come!
Now I'm in a working band again ... nothing immense ... just four like-minded rockers blasting out a few chords a few times a month & even getting paid for it (THAT makes a change .. back in 'the day' I was lucky to make expenses back - lol!).
But it at least partly fills the yawning empty chasm that I (laughingly now) called my soul for the past 13/14 years & I feel rejuvenated. It's all thanks to one old mate I hadn't seen for 20 years, who I re-connected with purely by chance .. and G101 of course ... and now this place.
Plus .. I finally got to collab' & play together with two guys out of the band I wanted to audition for back in '85, but never got the chance. THAT was way cool & shook off a couple of demons - along with recording at least one cover song with a new mate (JPF) that meant and still does mean a shit-load to me and also went some way towards releasing some old angst & heartache (John knows what I mean). Couldn't get it out of me any other way.
So hats of to y'all ... specially to Ericgtr for the site(s), wahwah, JPF, Eamon7, Dutch, Steveyboy, Mike M, Mondy, Stingx, Biggus Dikkus, rjmjajrj and an EXTRA special mention for Bluesplayer and Linda. Anyone else I've ever conversed with and had a great time chewin' the fat with, too.
:yourock: ... ALL of you.
AND Carmine of course ... for my first gratis coffee in the cafe :)

I think that this reason alone is what makes this site so great. To work with and also hear the collabs from individuals you never met. I think there are a bunch of very talented people on this site. You guys are very welcoming and just a lot of fun to chat with. So a great thanks to everyone that puts their heart and soul into their work and is kind enough to post for the world to hear. :yourock:
Well let me say Joe.....AWESOME thread, and really an inspirational one at that!!!!!! I was turned on to these sites by my good friend Matt(Supercharged 350), and i've never looked back!!!! Thanks brother!!! Just wanted to be able to play a little guitar......put some stuff together, and put it out there for people to hear. Next thing i know....i'm involved with so many wonderful people, from all over the world!!!!!.....almost overwhelming really!!! I now have friends from all over the States, Sweden, England, Spain, South America, etc.....Phenominal!!!!. And having never been a singer, to end up doing more of that than anything!!!! boggles the mind!!!! You all are truly a Godsend to me......and i look forward to more and more great music making experiences, till they put me in the ground!!!! Y'all ROCK!!!!!:thumb:
You guys that can sing probably end up doing more collabs than the vocally challenged like myself. :p I imagine your hard drives are full of great songs that you've worked on. I really like the stories you guys are sharing too. I didn't realize how meaningful these sites are to some of you. It is great to get together on these songs, as well as participate in the other sections of the site.
