I've got some cash... not much...
I have $340-$400
My band mates and I were talking about those MBox recording ports...
Does anyone know anything about them?
How are they?
Does anyone know anything better that I should look at for the price range I'm looking at?
Thanks,

well the MBox2 is running a home version of Pro Tools. Its good software and hardware to be sure. however plugins are normally a little more expensive than the cubase equivalent. My honest suggestion would be to buy a decent soundcard for $150-200 and get whatever software you fancy. preferably something like cubase because there are a whole lot of free plugins available.

Ditto goport.....
Plug in boxes aren't as good as audio cards, or so I've read on a lot of reviews on sites by recording guru's. It's better to have the card internally....unless you're using a laptop, then you haven't a choice.
You can get a awesome audio card for around 100 bucks (maudio 2496 for example). You just need a pci slot.
i'm running cubase sx3 with a 2496 card...I can't imagine it sounding any better than it does.
cubase is the only thing I've been able to really figure out. Protools, Sonar and the rest just confuse the heck outta me for some reason.
