View Full Version : An Important Request !

Hi still learning my way around here, LOL, this is a great fun site !! :yourock:
a quick request:
I have noticed that some people have made some excellent backings of coversongs, in which they usually then subsequently post THEIR COMPLETED VERSION with them playing over the backing including their solos,
what I'm requesting is that when someone
1. makes the effort to create a backing
2. and they also subsequently post in a section other than the backing track forum
that they also post that backing track in the backing track forum so that many musicians may be able to enjoy playing over that backing track as well, but the backing track they post is without the SIGNATURE fills, solos, etc. :woot:
for example I noticed a great version of an Offspring song yet the backing was not posted in the backing tracks forum, I saw another example of this with a judas priest song, so this issue seems to happen sometimes
anyway you get my concern, thanks for your efforts and thoughtfullness !

Not everyone likes sharing there BT's, myself included, because for person that just wants to jam to a BT, there are 4 or 5 ppl that nick it to sell on E-Bay, and i personally won't tolorate that, i put alot of work into my backings, and its not for someone else to sell them.
Alot of ppl will have their own reasons for not sharing them, but thats mine.

Agreed. I also stopped making them when I found my backings on eBay. Not to mention all the leechers who just come to download and don't even get involved in the forum, not even to say thanks. metaldeth_shredder, I suggest you check out the tutorial section and learn to make them yourself. It's much more rewarding:thumb:

Yeah, i was pretty pissed when i found out, and it was end of my public BT making, and as PG says, you get alot of leeching too, i remember one of my BTs getting around 250 downloads over on G101 and 2 replys thanking me for making it, so i stopped caring.

I understand,....you know Iīm a complete retarded as of fixing midi stuff, I already have said it before, I learnt everything from a PG tutorial for Synthfont. Man itīs so easy and fun to just spend some time making them, I can accept someone selling their personal objects, but making money out of that is just disgusting.

one of the main purposes of this site, is for musicians to share their ideas, including backing tracks :yourock:
and while I think it sucks that anyone will take advantage of a site like this, and it's thoughtful members,
the fact is unfortunately, there will always be someone who tries to take advantage of the system. :mad1:
I have approx 5 Gigs worth of backing tracks, many quite good, I will gladly share them,
I'm just happy when musicians get better from practicing with important tools like backingtracks. :D

I think the thing is which is hard for ppl to understand is the hardwork that goes into making bts, im not talking about slapping some fonts on a midi and converting it, i mean building bts from scratch and making all the instruments you use sound authentic, and after all that hardwork you see some tosser selling something you have worked so hard on , thats out of order:P
I can understand what your saying Metaldeth , and indeed this forum does have a great community feeling, but i tend to find that the sites where theres thousands of bts put up , that forum has no community, only leechers coming in and signing up , downloading , then never seen again.
You can try this place if your wanting bts though,
http://www.guitarbt.com/
Yeah you have 5 gigs worth of bts, but there not your own works m8, its diffrent when you actually put the hardwork into making them yourself.
Personally im also like Av and PG , i keep the bts i make for myself, cos theres to many leechs out there looking for a easy ride.;)

Good topic , personally i don't mind people taking my backing tracks and selling them , i hope they get a good price for the buggers !:toothless: . Ultimately i have the original midi files , and with it the ability to change key , and everything else .
Making backing tracks to me is not a chore , i enjoy researching the tune finding out what the band were really playing and then the construction of it , and ultimately have somebody to add their Vocals / Bass whatever .
Its important to keep things into perspective here , i have taken backing tracks and not been charged , so therefor the same principle applies to my work .
And if they get in touch i will even change the bloody key :thumb:

Well i go to work for money, i put many hours in there to earn my paycheque, and i wouldn't do it if they expected me to work for free, then make a profit from what i've done aswell, and the same applys to my backing work.
Why should i make money for someone else when i do all the work for free?
I enjoy making backings, i don't class it a chore, but there is no way im being an unpaid worker for some lazy money grabbing ponce, who probably doesn't know the first thing about the work that go's into them.
Thats just my view on it, i think alot of the things ppl try to sell on E-Bay is shameful at times, and its just yet another sign of the sad world we live in, where most ppl would sell there soul for the green stuff.

I think you guys make good points, who wants to go through all of that trouble just to have all your work stolen and then sold. As a webmaster who (I like to think anyway) helped pioneer the sharing of them on forums, I totally don't blame you guys in the least. If I made them, I wouldn't release them freely like that anymore either.

Thing is we dont own copyright to these tunes anyway , and niether do the leechers . and assume these Ebays parasites are paying the required monies to all artistes concerned :headscratch: .
I never knew they were being sold on Ebay either. What a great idea! I think I just found a new way to make some money. How much does a good BT go for on Ebay anyway?
Anyway, I also understand why no one would like it - leachers suck.
Some have said it's no chore to them to make BTs - well I'm not one of those people. It IS a chore to me to make a BT. I don't do it on a PC anyway, I make them on my Boss DR-880 drum machine instead. (Sounds better to me on that machine)

Well i don't think alot of the E-Bay'ers do pay copyright cover, and its just the moral issue of taking freely distibuted items and making ppl pay for them, who would probably just download them if they knew where to.
The other thing is, we might not own the copyright to the original songs, but we do kind of hold the copyright to our BT work, many ppl make and sell Backers (with the proper copyright permissions) and there work is protected by copyright laws too, so these E-Bay sales are on dodgy ground.
The problem is, who can afford or be bothered to take some to court over it?, and if there not in the same country as you, it would be near impossible to get jack done about it.
Im not bothered enough for the above (not sure anyone is), but selling other ppls work & making out its your own work is for sad *&$Ģ's, end of as far as im concerned.

Well the way it is with me is like this, if someone asks me who i know for a bt i have used on a cover etc for jamming/learning purposes , then im quite happy to give them the bt in good faith, however i won't give anyone a bt if one i don't know them and they just pop up ask for the bt and never seen again, two they think there gonna run of a xmas size wish list to me of what they want, they will just be told to piss of , simple as that.
I do agree its a great feeling to share and help others , i will try to help anyone anyway i can , whether its bt related or music related or anything in general , thats how i am :)

I absolutely agree with you on that.
People who sell BTs that they DIDN'T make are just plain assholes. I have no problem with a musician protecting their work.
