I just sat thinking about amps and guitars , i just thought how funny it was when i used my first pre-amp:lol:
After getting my first guitar (black Fender Squire) i wanted to get some sort of amp, but i really didn't know much about them.
I was talking to my dad about amps/pre-amps , he said well do you still have your old personal walkman? , i thought well what has this got do to with amps lol, but i said er yeah hehe.
He said well i'll convert it into a little pre-amp for you(the one thing i always admired about my dad was his intelligent ability to transform simplistic things into useful pieces of equipment), so anyway he managed to turn this little walkman into a pre-amp, lol i was overjoyed and went straight to my guitar , i plugged it in and practiced for hours with it:)
Thinking back it probably sounded shite, but it definetly shows that if you haven't the money to buy the stuff, that you can use alternative methods.
Since then ive been very interested in electronics and how they effect your sound or presence.
I might start building some units and other electronics for my guitar, see if i can manipulate some diffrent tones out of it:woot:
Have you guys had any similar if not funny storys to tell about your first pieces of equipment?

Cool stuff Bahamut. I love to listen (read) to these kind of things. I bet you never thought a walkman could serve like that huh? That was a real neat thing from your dad, I sure envy how people manage to fix up things from scrap, my grandfather was like that too.
As for old gadgets, I remember using an old Phillips tape recorder my dad bought in the early sixties, you could record two tracks on it, so there was me and my nylon string making noise on it when I was around sixteen :D . That thing is still alive at my mothers place, maybe one of these days IŽll bring it home and transfer the reels to my PC.

Here's a picture of my first piece of gear. A stratocaster of some sort. I bought it used at a guitar store, the owner didnt really know the origin... something home built probaby. The electronics are... well... not the way they are supposed to be :D
It's got a pretty good neck tho, plays pretty well, it was really cheap and it's beautiful!

I think my first instrument was a viola when I was like 6 or 7. Never took it seriously.

my first ever guitar is an "Hohner" classical nylon string guitar. I still have it... its covered in tape and stickers and marker. And its pretty batterred and war torn... but i still play it now and then. A nice Nylon string sound is always pleasant. It is a bastard to play though... but it can sometimes be worth it. I just restrung it recently infact.

My first electric setup was an Encore strat rip-off and a little "Kustom" amplifier. 10 watts of crap... it all got me started though. Couldn't play it now though... i'd curl up and die in the corner. lol.

My first axe was a National Les Paul. Black and white design. My first amp was a Crate 1x12 with a celestion speaker. I dont remember the amp model but i know it was black and red and it kicked major booty.
