Just bought it this weekend and pleasantly surprised i can get my exact tone that i get from my Flextone III XL. ....and alot more. I mainly got it because im getting tired of payin for rehersal rooms that i have to carry the flextone with me because the amps blow even in the expensive rooms. I still havent tested it there but im confident it can do the job. Any pros or cons you would like to share about this unit would be appreciated. Thanks

Well ill be surprised if there are any cons....i was thinking about this unit for a while then this pic really had me interested...presented in an ad sort of way

If your backing up the King of Tone, Joe Satriani, you better have the best.....(Galen Henson's settup from the last tour, Joes Rythym Guitarist)

I bought an XT with the shortboard, no Live was available several years ago. Except for the variax jack and one other item, they are identical. Never a problem with my unit in all the years I've had it. I constantly update to the newest firmware and have all the model packs. It is the single best piece of gear I have ever purchased. It is actually second only to the Vetta in flexibilty. You are gonna love your new toy. Check out my patches I posted. They are compatible between the units (another plus). :thumb:

Congrats and have a lot of fun with your Live.

Edit: Now you can reamp! Adds a whole new take on recording :thumb:

For me the best patch is the "Boutique Combo". That patch coupled with my JV Strat = pure tone to the bone.

I got rid of my GT6 and got one of these as soon as they came out here, theyre bloody amazing and excellent for gigiging too, I have every tone you could imagine and the www.customtone.com site is brilliant.
I bought the extra metal amps add on but have never used anything apart from the JCM800 and Eruption patches

I've had a Pod for the last 5 years, currently running just an XT and love them for practice and late night recording, but would I play out with one? Hell no - thats why God created valve amps, quads and proper effects pedals ;)

yeah but I honestly can't understand why you need one if you're running a Full Stack? Just turn the bugger up to number 11..... or get a smaller amp and turn it up to 11 and hide it behind your stack ;)

I reckon the variax-line6 amp combo is great for cover bands :) I usually end up with 3 guitars on stage : LP, Strat and Acoustic. Lately I've knocked it down to two - Acoustic and P90 equipped Custom, it covers both LP and Strat bases nicely :D

apart from anything else, my pedalboard scares the beejesus out of everyone.... this was its first incarnation, I've added a few things since - it now has an extra 2 tubescreamer clones and a fuzz, the dd3 has been replaced with a lin6 DL4 :D

Cause you can get the variety of tones, with the warmth and beef you only get with a valve preamp/poweramp combination.

I LOVE cookin' valves, but most true valve amps in my experience (Marshall JCM, Orange OD120, Roost, etc ... yeah .. mainly Brit valve amps) are one-trick wonders ... they give one sound excellently, with variations on gain and tone shaping (obviously) but that pretty much forces you down one or two paths.

That's fine and dandy if you're a 'name' band/artist, or in a tribute, where one or two sounds are the trademark, or if you're happy with only a few variations ... but when you do a lot of covers from different bands ... or want to branch out ... a modeller through a true valve amp does the business .. ALL the business.

I drive either a Marshall Valvestate AVT275 2x12combo, or a Sound City (Dallas Arbiter) all valve head, with my Vamp Pro and FCB1010 midi controller (through the FRONT end) and get all the tonal variation I want for all the widely different covers my band does .. from Satch ("Big Bad Moon") .. through to ACDC ... through to rockin' blues ... and on to Floyd ("Comfortably Numb") and Zep' ("Communication Breakdown" and even "Stairway"!!). Next one to put in there is some VH.

Only one thing I'd say is to make sure the 'real' amp is on a 'clean' channel and with fairly 'neutral' eq set up on it, then the preamp won't stamp it's signature all over your tone, and then you're set up, with just the valve warmth added in to complement your modeller tones.

Sorry ... I know this is a thread about the XTLive ... and I've hi-jacked it somewhat ... I just think that Tony's giving himself the best of all worlds by driving his TSL100 with it, instead of 'having' to limit himself to one or two tones, just 'cause he's got the big 'real' stack ... and that's GREAT in MY book.

No beef with ya Bluesgeek ... each to their own ... it's just my personal opinion.

I agree with John...if you're running one of these live, get a great nuetral power amp and some stereo cabs. The sound doesn't want ant colour at all except what the volume brings. Believe me, just cos these things are filled with 0's and 1's (binary) doesn't mean they won't squeal and sustain like the valve cousins.

Re my Line6 shortboard...Houston, we have a problem. The volume pedal will not default to zero. I'm recording 'Roisin Dubh' by Thin Lizzy and it's guitar a go-go! Problem is I need to be able to bring this shit in with the volume pedal and you can hear some background noise. I reckon I've worn it out using the wah so much. Other than that, Line6 gear rules.

No problem mate, we all have opinions, just like we all have a***holes

I've just never found a live setup where I like the sound of my Pod - it colours everything way too much, I could pretty much plug any guitar in and it sounds the same. Our band does a large variety of covers from classic motown through to Green Day through to Gary Moore. I can get close enough to most of the tones with my rig, guitars and tone controls. It helps having 3 different overdrive pedals on the board ;)

I tried a Zoom GFX8 for awhile too but that was even worse, sounded like a tin can full of wasps!

Whatever works for you really :)

Well ... it sure works for me ... don't mean to teach my granny an' all that ... but have you tried amplifying your XT with the speaker sims switched off?

My Vamp sounds ferkin incredible through 'clean'-sounding valve amps. The Sound City/Dallas Arbiter is built like a Plexi, so it goes to ridiculous volume levels without breaking up any more than I want it to - with my clean sound dialled in on the Vamp, it's just on the verge of driving the valves into a bit of edgey crunch if I dig in a bit harder ... and with the speaker sims off and taking care not to switch between widely different amp models within any one song, the patch-change delay doesn't affect me either.

I know you love your valves and pedals mate ... but I'm convinced that it's worth another try with the XT amplified through a valve amp for your live sound. :thumb:

I had bought the XT Live a year ago, and the first one had a major meltdown. The Motherboard melted itself. I got a second one, but I still have problems. It is fine until the USB is hooked to the computer, the all this noisy static happens. I cannot record while the USB is attached, and I only hook it up to update the unit and change presets now. I really like the fact you can adjust it on the puter. I also found that some of my tones are lacking, and I have heard some other units that sound a lot better. Just my own experience....George PS. Good Luck with it! :wavey:

Yep all the sims switched off, it may be just the amps I'm using, they probably add too much colouration. I'm thinking of getting a Crate Power Brick as a backup amp which should be pretty much a blank canvas. Just in case a valve blows ;)
