My daughter(16yo) is an aspiring singer and really needs honest input on her singing. I don't know if it is appropriate to post a song focused more on vocals than guitar here, but i told her that you guys will tell it like it is. I appologize in advance if this is not right but your input will greatly be appreciated. The mix on this song was very hard to get right because the vocals were recorded on full at the input. Thank you all (maybe someone could link me to a vocalist themed sight).

possum kingdom by the toadies backing track. I got the backing track from emusic.com.

The pushed input makes it tough at times from a talent standpoint I think for 16 she's well on her way. Also tell her my wife was the singer in our band and we played rock. We gigged for over 10 years and had an absolute blast. I say good stuff, keep it up. :thumb:

I'd say this tune fits right in here. Sure, most of us here have guitar as our main instrument, but I think we're all music lovers and not just limited to one single instrument. That's how I feel about it, at least.

I think she sounds promosing too. Nice attitude in the vocals. She seems to really enjoy singing and giving it her all!
The recording volume seems a little bit uneven tho. Maybe try some compression on the vocals?

I saw the Toadies before they got their big break. Think the bass player was a girl, even though a guy sang the song. So it's cool to hear it from a different vocal perspective. I agree with Bizzle about the reverb. Probably wouldn't need too much to match the backing track. Cool first post!!

we certainly welcome singers here. we have some great ones too and a lot of singers willing to help out on songs too. as for the 16 yr old daughter. i think she is a fine singer for her age. good pitch, power and attitude. the first thing you need to do is learn how to record vocals. there is a lot of stuff out there for vocals and a lot of good software that people will share with you here. i use a line6 toneport for recording vocals and it works pretty good ($120) but there is a lot of better stuff out there too so check around and ask questions. having her sound great on the songs will give her a huge confidence boost

Sounds like she's got a great voice lots of character...all she needs is a little experience. Reminds me a lot of PJ harvey actually.

She sounds great, nice attitude, on key, and plenty of oomph in the vocals, she just needs a little better recording to really bring it alive. Great job, and do post more as she progresses.

She sounds fine , but im not in favour if the sixties dylanesque mic sound . hey but were not here discussing the tune :headscratch: , the voice is splendid , couple more years on it , and she will be ready to roll !! :thumb:

Well tell your daughter she rocks big time. Real fun tune to listen to, agreed that sort of effect over the vocal track would be a better listen if it was just plain clean, but maybe the original song was recorded that way, so I donīt know.
