Its still locking up, and they say they have "run all tests" and there is nowt wrong on the hardware, must be software. Ok .... backup and wipe clean, bloody CD wont write! :brickwall: Great!
According to my brother the PC whizz, the way they just plugged my hard drive into the replacement laptop (the old one burned out) could have caused all sorts of problems, so I have to go ahead with the clean install anyway. I have uploaded photos, personal music etc to save it, but am going to lose loads of accumulated MP3's and junk :upset:
If it still dont work after then Buy as you View will get it back, inserted anally. :maddance:
See you all on the other side.

Question, have you reinstalled Windows (meaning you have installed it fresh again)? If it has been reinstalled and you are still having lockup issues then it's a very good chance that it's hardware related.

I am about to re-install now, damm thing locked up while I was uploading the very last thing that Wendy cannot bear to lose. Plan to wipe the disc and start clean, nothing really that it will kill me to lose on it.

Best thing you can do imo. Wipe it all off. I hate laptops, they are very handy, but a nightmare to recover.

Wipe it. Reformat the drive, install Windows. Run Windows update and get all updates needed. Then go to the manufacturers website and get all the latest drivers for your hardware and install them. After insuring there are no conflicts in your device manager, proceed to reinstalling your non-windows software:thumb:

Reading to this again, I just remembered some real strange thing that happened to a laptop from a friend a few months ago. Apparently his DVD/CD reader just suddenly disappeared from 'my PC'. I mean the correspondent drive (usually D) did just not show up, and didn´t even work if you inserted a cd. I took a look at it, opened it up, everything seemed ok to me, as I thought it had to be a hardware issue. Well no. It was Firefox. I recommended him to use it as it goes fine on my home PC a few weeks earlier, but after endless hours, I found out there was some sort of problem within the Key register stuff (regedit) Unbelievable, uninstalled it and took off all the remains with regedit, installed Opera, and voilà, there was D again. :headscratch: Don´t know if it´s the same prob, but at least there is another idea that might happen, maybe not with Firefox, but with some other one.

I would install windows but turn off automatic updates , my own opinion is you don't need them , hotfixes are mainly outlook security related , and i never use outlook as its to prone to bugs .use a web related mail service like Yahoo , its a lot better than it used to be and there is a zero chance of bugs . also ideally turn off every link you have with Micro soft , and on a lap top its cool to go into device manager/performance and click on adjust for best performance , also turn off remote assistance , and just remember for sure Mr Gates is eternally watching over you . Dont let him .
You will notice a slight performance boost too .
