PM'd Pod God on this but he is AFK.....

I am trying to make some backers for Shannon's next gig, using SynthFont. I need to drop the key of the midi (or the output) by one tone (Song is in F#m, so transposed for her).Anyone know of an (easy) way to do this? :headscratch:

Hey Steve i don't know how synthfont is setup , but is it the same as computer music where like lets say for instance the drums, keybaords, bass are in single tracks that are made up from like program blocks?

 This is all totally new to me...

All the instruments are in separate tracks, with info next to them about the various parameters, instruments etc. Dunno if that is what you mean tho...

Yeah kind of, on computer music you select one of those tracks and then you can go into like a key editor, it shows the track broken down into blocks(which if you build your bts yourself you have to create arrange these blocks, if midi then they are already there) , in your case they should be there from a midi, there should be a edit option where you can select all of those blocks at once on the track, then move them down one, then obviously the same with anything else (except the drums, they have no key lol) , hope this makes sense m8, if not im sure Pod will know the program better then me, like i say i don't know SynthFont at all :)

Got it ... there is a track mixer in there that allows you do transpose amongst other things. Thanks for the help mate. :thumb:

Ahh brilliant m8 , i guess most of these programs all resemble each other one way or another, just diffrent package lol:lol:
Your very welcome m8, glad to have helped :)

I didn't even realize this was possible in SynthFont. I usually use Sonar or Fruity Loops for midi editing:)

Well there ya go, student teaches master, Still working through your tutorial step by step here, having trouble finding a decent bass soundfont. Getting ther tho, thanks for posting it.

A decent bass soundfont is hard to find. I usually use NS_J-Bass or Steinberg's Virtual Bass VST. If you have a bass of your own I'd use it. Nothing is better than real bass:thumb:

I do have a bass, but following the root notes is about the extent of my ability ....

Every time I assign a bass soundfont the bass stops playing, other tracks work fine. Huh? Tried 3 so far, will go find another option to try now.

try using fl studio its alot easier to work with midi and change midi. i dont know how synthfont works, but in fl studio the midi notes are mapped out on a piano roll. just open the piano roll, select all, then use the cursor and move everything up in pitch. (or down). do that to each track. or you could fiddle with the pitch nob lol.

I usually use a soundfont called Fender_JazzBass.sf2 for bass. Sounds pretty good in a mix with other instruments, not that good just solo. That is, when I'm too lazy to play bass myself.

I've used fruity loops a bit. The problem with midi is that the drums are usually on just one track in a midi and I get everything in the same piano roll, with the same sample. Kick, snare, hihats and everything. Is there an easy way to split it up without having to do it "by hand"?

soundfonts are not very good samples to be honest. some of them are ok. the best samples to use are the ones already in fl studio. it already has its own bass samples u can use. try looking under packs>hiphop. i like to use those basses. you will hear a big difference in quality.

yeah most midis come like that and it makes you lazy lol. i normally copy and paste the snare and kick by themselves seperately each into their own track. let the cymbals, perc stay where they are. then add fx and mix that way.
i think its just easier to make your own drum beat with the step sequencer and use the playlist to arrange the song. try using some of the drum samples in fl too.its has some good samples...under packs> hiphop, realdrumkits, vintage, fpc.

I did look at FL a while back, but I didn't understand a thing  Will look again once I have a bit more experience I guess.

I hate Fruity loops with a passion. It's the interface that puts me off. It is trying to retain its identity as an old skool style sequencer and incorporate the piano role. I am sure it is a decent package and I know it gets good results but I like the interface to be unobtrusive and not in your face.

Cubase is a far simpler option for me and it works without any fuss and I have full visual representation of everything I am programming or recording.

Its all personal preference I guess.

So many options, so little time to check them out

I guess as I have started to get to grips with Synthfont, and it seems to be the easiest, I will stick at it for a while to get some idea, then check out other options later.
