Ok its only a pre season friendly tournament and only 4 teams in it, but we beat Liverpool in a penalty shootout. Thats the same Liverpool that won on penalties in the final of the champions league.
The thing is, as a long suffering Pompey supporter, its a bloody good time to be supporting the club. On paper we are the smallest club in the premiership but we never went outside the top half of the table last season. Thats thanks to the best goalkeeper in the Premiership, David James.
And David James is the reason we won silverware again - The Fulham and Liverpool games were won by the form of James who produced some outstanding reflex saves in both games to keep a clean sheet in both.
And during the penalty shoot out he managed to save 2, which is the mark of a top class keeper. In fact Pompey were first up and Utaka missed his penalty - it should have been all over then.
Put simply - David James is the best keeper Portsmouth have ever had. Brian Clough once said Peter Shilton was worth 10 points a season, James has to be worth 15.
Play up Pompey!!

I must admit im neutral when it comes to premiership sides(im a Ipswich Town supporter) , but i do cheer on Harry's team alot, i think last season ive never seen James play so well, he always seemed half asleep at Man City lol:lol:
They are one of these teams you can't relax with, cos of there style of playing, you know i think Wigan(in the season before) and Reading have kinda imported there tatics aswell last season , you can't visit the above teams and think your gonna have a easy ride , cos they are bloody dangerous , especially on the counter attacks:D
I must admit Portsmouth matchs are always really enjoyable as are Reading's , i would rather see them win then Man Utd anytime:toothless:

LOL! the problem is we still need a nailed on striker. Utaka is more for playing wide. Kanu is probably going to stay but there is no guarantee he is good for goals in double figures. Lualua is a greedy twat that never passes and has been lazy over the last year. Nugent current form is poor and his fitness is very questionable - should improve a lot though. Benjani "taxi for row z" is like a rabbit caught in car headlights at 10 yards from goal or less :)
So yeah - we need a Defoe or Shawn Wright-Phillips really. We are not going to get one though.

Lol never say never m8:toothless:
I think Defoe is a greedy bastard on the ball aswell, but i suppose he makes up for the fact that he can score lol:lol:
Yeah its a problem , i think Kanu is not bad, abit slow but good for close quarter scoring, but you need someone with pace and who is lethal infront of that net, i think someone like Darren Bent would work well at Portsmouth:D

I'd have him.
Also I'd have Henry too - he looked good when he wore a pompey shirt at fratton park in 2004. Give him a few years at Barca and he'll come to pompey for sure :D He even spoke about us when he left Arsenal.

"I wore the Portsmouth shirt for those very special fans. They were singing my name, asking me to give them a wave and all that kind of thing.
"I've never experienced that in my life. This was an away game and I was from the other team. Support like that has a great deal to do with Portsmouth staying up. They really are tremendous. They were asking me to sign for Portsmouth.
"Wearing their shirt in their ground was the only thing I could do to give something back to them. I hope that it meant something."
This week speaking of his departure from the North London club Henry relived the ocassion saying: "Getting standing ovations from away fans was out of this world. It's so difficult to understand because in France they are just not like that.
"I will never forget that night (at Fratton Park) because you know a lot of people were appreciating what you are doing."

Yeah Henry is a classy player , shame won't get to see him playing for Arsenal this year, although since they lost Vierra and Pires , Cole they have been slowly sinking, he was the lasthing keeping them in with a shot of the top 6, my guess they will be behind Spurs at the end of the new season:lol:
I hope Harry and the boys do well again this year, i love watching them making monkeys out of the big boys , but you need a striker from somewhere lol:lol:

You know, after all the stick James has got in the past, it's nice to hear him get some praise like this, and deservedly so. He's played some damn fine football and pulled off some amazing saves in the past, unfortunately, it seems he will be remembered for the few clangers.
But then, that happens to them all, I've lost count of how many times I've seen that goal against Tim Flowers where he bends down to scoop up a weak shot and it bobbles up over his head and into the goal after hitting the part of turf he moulded himself in order to steady the ball for a free kick. I think it was against Swindon if I remember, I bloody shoud do, I was sat behind him in the Darwen End when it happened !
But no, I reiterate, nice to hear him getting this praise. I have been a fan of Pompey's and also Reading's football for a long time.

Ah, bollocks, no it was against Liverpool. Stan Collywobble. I always think Swindon, but that was a Bobby Mimms miskick and Fjortoft scored with a lob.
