Sorry to hear this, hopefully she is doing okay and will be out soon.
I have been hospitialized for this three times myself, something I've inherited. Getting a chest tube is a pretty traumatic experience but usually the worst of it and in most cases the lung will heal within a couple of days. :)

I'm sure the doctors know more, but looking online just now it sounds like this is fairly non life-threatening. It can be immediately life threatening if it is caused by a puncture in the lung but it 'sounds' like that is only in the immediate need to insert a release valve into the air pocket. That would put your daughter's situation well out of the woods but of course still needing some treatment and serious healing unless there's some additional factor weighing in.
I'm sure it sucks but the outcome for this kind of thing looks good. I know at least one person that's had it.

Didn,t get back till very late last night, they had to put in a bigger tube and when I got there she was out of it and in a lot of pain. We even took her daughter with us so they could visit.
I will be calling the hosital in a bit to she if she is better

Is this a spontaneous pneumothorax or was there an accident of some kind? I ask because the spontaneous pneumothorax is somehing I've had all my life. It's no fun but very survivable. The first time it happened I was in the hospital for 7 days and the other 2 times I was only in for about 3 days each.
The hole (bleb) that causes the leak will inturn, scar over and seal eventually unless it's really large, then they may want to operate but that's not very common. Once the lung starts holding air on it's own (not leaking bubbles into the water tubes the suction goes into) they will usually turn off the suction and leave the tube in for about 24 hours. If there is no leaking during that time, they will pull the tube and send you home.

The doctor said 2-3 days, i'm not sure of the tech term,

Okay, if it happened out of nowhwere for no apparent reason then it is a spontaneous pneumothorax. If they said 2 or 3 days then they believe that just letting the suction work for a couple of days will do the trick, and that is good news. :) Believe it or not this is not an uncommon problem.

Our Daughter Jamie is back in the hospital once again with the same hole in her lung. I wish they could figure out what is causing it. She's so young... only 21. :-( Dr.s considering removing the one lung. Thanks for all the prayers the first time around...if anyone has any extra's...they sure would come in handy now.

Very sorry to hear this, I hope the best for her. You would think they could give you more of an explanation for this. I know that I have had this issue my entire life and if there is a big enough hole (bleb) they will surgically cut it out and sew it up but it's usually very small in comparison to the entire lung, why they would want to remove the whole thing is questionable, at least without explanation to a more underlying problem.

Well...I don't, for a second, believe in prayer...but I feel for you and hope things work out. If there's anything that I can do to help let me know and I'll do what I can - as will most here I think.
