It's a first date and all so I'm not going to get too excited but I'm looking forward to next time and it seemed like she is too. I saw the pics of the lily tree you had in another thread. They are a beaufital tree and they do make a mess when the peddals fall. My neighbours have one and it blooms in late May. You should make some pouppori with the peddals...lol

That's a good idea. I just raked them all up and put them in the compost. Don't exactly want them anymore but the tree already dropped like 10 since I mowed.

I'm having to mow the lawn every weekend now. I've actually never had a damn lawn....they kind of suck.

Yeah mowing the lawn does suck! Do what I do...buy a case of Beer and make a day of it! Our house we sold last June took 6 hours to mow:mad1: Charles and I were drunk by the time we were done mowing! Our new home only takes about 45 minutes...what a difference! I do miss having over 2 acres of land though.

Actually I like where I'm living now. I'm still near family but it's my own house. Nice neighborhood. Nice yard...

Let's see...I watched The Island, Sentinel, and The Life of Brian.

Made the bread from scratch...my own sourdough starter that's been living in the cupboard for about 3 weeks. It rose this time but it's still hard as stone on the outside. The taste is rather strong. I don't know if I like it....I don't think I do.

Maybe I should try regular bread for a bit to get the hang of it.

It's a great house. Probably way too small for a family like yours but it's big for a single guy. There's even one room I never go into.

I never saw any of those movies...I'm a loser ...lol What one would you recommend? I will google the movies later.

They're all good. The Life of Brian might be tough to find. It's really the only Monty Python movie I've seen that I liked. It teases the life of Jesus.

Picture of my bread. If I could get the crust thinner it would be almost edible. As it is, it's about 1/4 inch thick and hard as stone. If I threw it at someone it would probably kill them.

Are you sure you´re not building any new type of homemade stealth weapon there? :P I also tried to make bread not to long ago, it sure isn´t easy to do if you want to start from scratch. I even used beer as yeast, since I didn´t have any baking powder atm, sorta worked, but the damn thing ended up hard as a rock. Of course you can find readily fixed up bread powder in the market, but it´s not as fun.

I even used beer as yeast, since I didnīt have any baking powder atm, sorta worked, but the damn thing ended up hard as a rock. Of course you can find readily fixed up bread powder in the market, but itīs not as fun.

You can capture yeast. Just put 2 cups of water, 2 cups of flour, and a little sugar (about 2 Tbs) together, stir up and put in a dark warm place. Leave it there for a few days adding flour once in a while. Turns into a living being. That's what I used.

Yeah, you can get all those mixes and the bread makers but I want to do it myself. On the other hand, it might pay to try one of the mixes and see if I can get something worthwhile and then try my own...maybe I'll learn something.

LOL! Thatīs interesting, flour and sugar?? Gotta try that one. I used to cook a lot some time ago, but nowadays I just go for the easy way ( well, it gets to be boring if Iīm the only one sitting on the table for mealtime).
One thing I miss is going to the market really early on saturday mornings for purchasing fresh fish.

Haha my favourite part is when Brian is scrawling some graffitti on the wall and the Roman Centurion catches him...

CENTURION: What's this, then? 'Romanes Eunt Domus'? 'People called Romanes they go the house'?
BRIAN: It-- it says, 'Romans, go home'.
CENTURION: No, it doesn't. What's Latin for 'Roman'? Come on!
BRIAN: 'R-- Romanus'?
CENTURION: Goes like...?
BRIAN: 'Annus'?
CENTURION: Vocative plural of 'annus' is...?
BRIAN: Eh. 'Anni'?
CENTURION: 'Romani'. 'Eunt'? What is 'eunt'?
BRIAN: 'Go'. Let--
CENTURION: Conjugate the verb 'to go'.
BRIAN: Uh. 'Ire'. Uh, 'eo'. 'Is'. 'It'. 'Imus'. 'Itis'. 'Eunt'.
CENTURION: So 'eunt' is...?
BRIAN: Ah, huh, third person plural, uh, present indicative. Uh, 'they go'.
CENTURION: But 'Romans, go home' is an order, so you must use the...?
BRIAN: The... imperative! Ahh! No, Dative! Ummm no. Not the dative, sir! No! Ah! Oh, the... accusative! Accusative! Ah! 'Domum', sir! 'Ad domum'! Ah! Oooh! Ah!
CENTURION: Except that 'domus' takes the...?
BRIAN: The locative, sir!
CENTURION: Now, write it out a hundred times.
BRIAN: Yes, sir. Thank you, sir. Hail Caesar, sir.
CENTURION: Hail Caesar. If it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your balls off.

I finally got one to work! I used a yeast based recipe that included sourdough. This one had different directions that told me to let it rise after I had formed it into loafs in the pans. The last hadn't told me to do that, which if I'm supposed to would explain why mine turned out dense and hard.

This one is actually good. A wheat sourdough ;) It's pretty yummy. The recipe called for a tablespoon of salt and I only put about 1/2 that in...I can still taste the salt so I think I'll reduce even more next time. Not sure salt even belongs in a bread anyway.

Had to share the success. Here's a picture...just got out of the oven...steaming hot bread with butter...mmmm....who needs dinner.

mmmm...now I remember why I was trying to do this so hard...well worth it.

No, I don't have a ball for them. I've thought about it. Then again, it's fun to watch them fight over the wheel. One will be in it, running...another will wait, come in as soon as it stops, and start trying to run...if it was a little one in there it's funny as hell because they can't run that fast and don't have the weight to keep the wheel from spinning...

I have two jalepeno plants. However, they are at differing stages of development because when I started growing the two, I repotted one of them too early and ended up killing him. So I had to start again from a seed with the second try. Neither of the jalapenos have started to flower yet, although the one that I didn't kill from the first two is getting nice and tall.

The other two are Fresno chili plants. The one that decided to jump off the windowsill is the one out of the four in the most advanced stage. Flowers were starting to open on it and it was really starting to grow. So I will be annoyed if I have killed it, but hopefully it will be okay.

Be quite cool when I can actually use the chilis in my cooking. A few months off that stage yet though.

What is tomato feed? Is it like miracle grow? I use miracle grow on my plants and they grow huge & look so green and healthy!

Kind of like it. I don't know if it is exactly the same though.

There is a guy at my work who has been growing peppers and I have been taking advice from him. On his advice, I have been giving them Baby Bio which he says is good for the leaves making them nice and green and strong and healthy and also good for the stem of the plant. The Baby Bio contains nitrates.

But he says that once the plants start flowering, that they are entering their maturation period so I should start giving them tomatoe feed instead, which he says is good for the peppers that the plant will now produce.

I don't think the tomatoe feed is nitrate based, but I cannot be sure as I haven't bought any yet.

I don't know what Miracle Gro contains.

But I really am no expert on this plant growing malarky. As I said, a friend in the office had great success growing some lemon peppers that were fairly hot and high on the old scoville scale.

So I am just following his advice to try and grow some jalepenos and red fresno chillis since that is what I always end up buying for my own cooking.

It seems that I am very nearly there now !

Yes, I can cook. Nothing too extravagant mind. i.e. there was a thread recently where guys were talking about raosting joints of meat. I've never attempted that sort of thing yet.

I'll have to pass on my recipe for Chicken Passatta that I found on the net a long while back. Very easy, very tasty, but not first date food as is quite sloppy and you eat it with ciabatta bread, i.e. mopping everything up on the plate.

Great fun all round, in the cooking and then especially the eating...

My blog has recipies scattered throughout. You have to weed through the philosophy and politics but its there ;) Most are deserts.

I've turned out to be an awesome cook but I still need to learn more. Helps to have great recipies and really like good food.

I've yet to try a roast. I'm single...what would be the point :p

My bread is going over really good at work. I always make two loafs and have been bringing one to work and sharing. That shit is hard to figure out, especially making a pure sourdough. I'm still not 100% happy with any of it but I've been working out what is doing what and what I like/didn't like about each loaf. Made a bread with garlic, herbs, and parmisan in it last night...pretty incredible but a little much on the salty side (probably because I used the powdered crap you get in the plastic shaker for parmisan).

That pancake recipe in my blog is the shit. I've never had better pancakes.

Am I starting to sound cocky enough to be a cook yet? ;)

:thumb:

Seriously, I don't know too many men personally that can cook. If they do it's soup from a can or K-dinner.
I love cooking especially in my slow cooker. I put a roast in it with popatoes, carrots, turnip, green beens, onions and lots of spices. Then you just let it cook all day and you don't have to watch it!:thumb: I'm not much of a fancy cook. I make Lasagna and some pasta dishes. The Chicken Passatta sounds good! The sloppier the food the better it taste...lol

Yeah, we used to make stew like that, and then put the dumplings on the top towards the end of the cooking. Y-u-m-m-y !!!

I will pull out the chicken passatta recipe, and you can put your feet up and start polishing off the wine while he cooks it for you !!!

Am I starting to sound cocky enough to be a cook yet? ;)

I will check out some of your recipes on mySpace.

Your starting to sound cocky but have you ever watched "Hells Kitchen"? The cook on there is cocky and he really scares the hell out of me!

Chicken and Passata Casserole

Overall preparation time: 1 h 10 min
Serves: 4
Description : A simple, full-flavoured supper dish.
Per serving:
447 Calories
31 (g) of fat

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil with a hint of garlic
4 skin-on chicken breast fillets, halved
250g (8oz) bag shallots, peeled and halved
salt and freshly ground black pepper
550g jar passata
15g (½ oz) pack fresh thyme, chopped
1 green and 1 yellow pepper, de-seeded and sliced
12 pitted black olives

Instructions:

Heat the oil in a flameproof casserole, add the chicken and shallots & fry until lightly browned. Drain off excess oil.
Pour over the passata, add most of the fresh thyme and seasoning and stir well.
Place in a preheated oven 180 °C, 350 °F, Gas Mark 4 for 30 minutes.
Stir in the peppers and olives and return to the oven for a further 30 minutes.
Sprinkle over the remaining thyme and serve with Italian bread.

We usually leave out the black olives, and get some flavoured ciabatta bread. Yummy, mop it all up with the bread !!!

If you can't find oil with hint of garlic, merely crush a clove of garlic and add it to the oil and chicken.

Piece of cake to make, and I love it.

Bit farty though...

Do you have a starter? If not you can spend a couple weeks making one first. You can also get free starter here: www.carlsfriends.org - it's almost 200 years old. I sent away for some today.

To make one you put 2 cups of flour and 1.5 cups of water in a glass or plastic container that can hold about a gallon. Put a cover on it that will let air through but not flies and crap. Put it outside and stir it twice a day for about 3 days. You should have bubbles at this point, add another cup of flour and enough water to keep the consistency. Keep it fed well (give it a bit twice a day) for the next couple of days. At this point you're supposed to have foam...mine doesn't do that - you're supposed to throw it out when it doesn't but I use it and it works ok. I put my original in the fridge and am trying a new one out on the back patio.

Hey, one of my pepper plants has sprouted it's first pepper ! Ironically, it is the plant that fell off the window. Two peppers have sprouted from the many flowers on there.

Not sure how long it will take for them to mature and ripen from green to red, but it's pretty exciting that I've actually produced peppers from the seeds.

The plant is still small as well, so not sure if that is right either ?

You can start it inside too. "They" just recommend you put it outside and that's what I'm trying this time. You can also send away for it at that address or buy it various places online.

I wouldn't expect any store to carry any. For one thing...at least here in the states it probably wouldn't be legal. There's all sorts of health issues I would think.

The cool thing about starter though is that you never have to start it again. You just keep some living in your fridge and plan a day ahead to use it. Once the bugs are going strong you can increase the batch in short order. Some starters have been around for ages...the address I gave earlier, that one has been passed down since 1840.

Umm, thats a tough one, especially coming from one who gets too attracted to different skirts every other day, :boobies:. Of course it depends on your definition of abuse, it can be fun, :D

Ah, your wife seems such a sweetheart as well. But then again, I guess that's what everyone says about my wife if they are not married to her...

But then again, the way you have placed her in your avatar proper freaks me out !

If that's the way your 15 years of marriage have been so far, I'd be super freaked out !!!
