Hey everyone, as you all read i started a video jam thread the other day , unfortunatley we had no volunteers but i think it was down more to the style of the song and having to do a perfect take on video lol
So i was thinking on something alittle less demanding and something thats user friendly , so this is like a kinda blues jam from The Eagles track Rocky Mountain, its a great song thats got a blues feel to it, ive had a quick jam to it, you can play blues , slide, grease lightning , or anything that fits your criteria lol, so i think this will work much better.
A very big thank you to Jamie (Avalon) , i was talking to him about a bt, he said he has the perfect track that would work, so he built the bt and did some rhythm guitaring on it for us, so thank you very much Jam :D
The slots are like this,

Slot 1: 0:15 -1:15 : Naifuzan
Slot 2: 1:15 - 2:15 : SteveG
Slot 3: 2:15 - 3:15 : Ukelele
Slot 4: 3:15 - 4:15 : Pod God
Slot 5: 4:15 - 5:15 : Bahamut
Slot 6: 5:15 - finish : Avalon (reserve in case knowone takes it)

Once you have done your video/audio parts, send them to Pod God in a pm please , he will be doing the mixing on this :)
I will remain off this but i can soon come on to make up the numbers if be, although i know the blues/rock is very popular amongst alot of us :)
Let me know which slot you want, i will put in the names as i see them against the slots, cheers , rock on

Good to see a few jumping in on this. I know this is new for most of us but it will be fun to experiment. If you guys can, try to send only the guitar without the backing. I'd like to keep a constant quality throughout the track and it will be easier that way. Lining things up may be an issue, but we'll work it out :)

ok then how do we do this? I'm recording video with my digital camera and sound through guitar port as usual. Can I send you just the video as it came out of the camera, with the sound recorded through my cameras mic, and then the mp3 file of just my guitar, with the backing track clicks for ya?

Usually, if I would do this as a 1 man thing, I would put the sound I recorded into the computer on the video file first, but since you're gonna mix us all into a single sound file I guess that's not really necessary on my part?

The only thing stopping me jumping on this is the fear of letting the side down if it is used as an advert for the forum. Put me in reserve too if you want.

And Mart, I know how you feel about this, but if this does go on YouTube theres guys here who will attract far more interest than me .... we are talking guitar skills here not good looks obviously :toothless:

Steve you have as much right to be on this as anyone else m8, and theres no way in hell you would be letting any of us down, its about having fun and enjoying yourself, if this did get put up on youtube then it will show six of us doing exactly that .
As i said when this part of the forum started Steve, this isn't a place for a oversized ego's, anyone who does infront of me won't be taking part in anything on here.
Im grateful to have a great set of guys being on this, so you play whatever you want on it m8, i might even join in myself and make a arse clown out of myself, cos im no blues guitarist
Right i will bang you down for slot 2 Steve and Tony on slot 3 , and lol great idea jam , i might try out a KFC bucket on my head  j/k :p

Now wait a minute buster, (me typing with wet fingers, still not dry from a bunch of head blasts at a friends swimming pool, lol!), who said I was in? ok, ok, I´m in, lol!, but I would prefer to see others in it , I´m sure there are plenty of dudes (girls? :D) willing to step in, damn, this site has plenty of people in to give a go, but I´ve only seen the same 4 or 5 (me included, :toothless:) guys show up and play with a web cam. How about some staff doing some too? After all, it´s all for fun, :p. (Not talking bout you Mart, lol!), but hey, Pod God, it´s about time you show up and post some guitar stuff, why not giving it a go? :notme:

That would be perfect Naif:) That way I have your audio/video as a reference when I match em up.:thumb:

I'm hoping everyone is able to record this way as it will make things easier and the quality will be better, but I realize we're all running different software and it may not be possible for some.

Sweet! So we have our lineup? After testing 6 or 7 cam recording appz, I find Camtasia works best for me. Goport posted it in File Share (http://www.guitarblast.com/showthread.php/camtasia-studio-screen-5940.html) if anybody wants to give it a try:thumb:

I´ll try that again thanks. Funny thing I used Camtasia not too long ago for an intro to JAVA programming , I never thought I´d use it for guitar playing, LOL! Gotta figure out how it goes here at the home pc, lets go! Any special settings on it? My web cam wont admit anything more than 640x480 res. Gonna download it now and go check it out again.
EDIT: got the "Sorry, the free service is at full capacity." message. I guess I´ll wait a lil and see.
EDITnº2: It´s downloading now

- Open Camtasia Studio - Click Record Camera
- Click on Video Format - Frame rate 30, Color RGB 24, Output Size 320x240(since this video will be streamed on the web, any bigger may make the file size to much), Click OK
- Make sure "Record Audio" is checked. Choose the audio device and audio input source(in my case GuitarPort)
- start the backing and click "start recording"

We got time on this then? I wont have the SG till Friday (strings) so would have to use Shannon's Ibanez again, and though it is a real nice guitar, I prefer mine :) Gotta re-install all the drivers for my video camera too, which is a pain.

This just reminded me of a conversation I had with my missus while viewing one of your posts, that went something like this....

Wendy: Who is that?
ME: Thats Martin
Wendy: Why does his picture keep changing like that?
Me: The other one is Satriani
Wendy: Why does he look so much like Satriani?
Me:  He is into Satriani, he did it on purpose
Wendy: Oh ... he is very ugly
Me: Which one?
Wendy: The one with the black T shirt
Me: (Almost in hysterics by now) and the one in the red?
Wendy: Oh, he's really good looking, dont know why he wants to look like the other one for.

I live with this on a daily basis.......:wtf:

Well you can tell Wendy m8 that im not actually bald atm , im growing it back after 3 yrs of looking like a meacon lol
It wasn't actually intentional lol, i just stuck it up as a my sig pic for awhile and Goport thought it would look funny it morphing between Satch and me, when i saw it i was just lmao , so i kept it lol:D
Im hoping my hair grows back enough for when i do my video part lol, if not the hat might have to be worn , cos its neither bald but not quite grown back enough, anyway i could always do a Buckethead theme for us :D

LMAO @ Steve, hahaha!. Well here I am figuring out how to manage to get both the guitar track and the backing on Camtasia, seems like only the guitar gets in, although I guess it´s better that way. I can always split the audio later on and hook it with the initial clicks of the track in Audacity I guess. Whenever I put all the flower pots at their places, Ming dinasty pottery, and straighten up the Rembrants, etc. I´ll hit the record button,

BRB. I'm making up a quick tutorial to show how this works.

Pod God
08-19-2007, 07:45 AM
Well I tried to make a tutorial, but the screen recorder conflicted with the camtasia studio which needed to be open to do it, lol. Oh well, here's how it works.......

Read this over, as it's different than the above instructions.

- Open Camtasia Studio

- Click Import Media and browse to the backing track and import it. Now it shows in your clip bin.

- Click the Tracks button (to the left of Timeline Help) and choose Audio 2 Track. An Audio 2 Track will appear in your timeline.

- Drag the backing from your clip bin to the beginning of the Audio 2 track. The backing is inserted in your project.

- Click Record Camera

- Click on Video Format - Frame Rate 30, Color RGB 24, Output Size 320x240(since this video will be streamed on the web, any bigger may make the file size to much), Click OK

- Make sure "Record Audio" is checked. Choose the audio device(GuitarPort, POD XT, Line In or however your recording) and audio input source if necessary.

- click Start Recording. The backing automatically starts while you're recording:rock:

- when finished click Stop Recording. Save the video as "just guitar" or something descriptive like that. Click Finished. Your video, along with the backing are both in your clip bin.

- Now we need to add the video to the project. You can use the video track but it automatically adds it to the beginning of the track, so we'll use the PIP track(it should be showing in the timeline, but if it isn't you can select it from the tracks button), so we have more control.

- Drag the video from the clip bin to the PIP Track. Line it up as best you can(remember, this one is just for reference anyway)

- Now choose "Produce Video As" and choose the WMV format. Keep all settings as default. Don't put a watermark on it (I have a GBlast watermark I'll be using for the whole thing;)). Save this one as "guitar and backing" or something descriptive like that.

Now all you have to do is send me both the "just guitar" and "guitar with backing" files:thumb:

I should also mention to cut the backing down to just your slot, so you don't have to record the whole thing. You can do that in Camtasia or any audio editor.

Don't think that method is going to work for me, as I cant record direct to the laptop. (No line in or usb preamp). Will have to record video whilst recording audio to the Boss, and match it up after. Would it be better for you if I do this on Camtasia rather than Movie Maker?

I guess you can do it that way, as long as you leave the backing track out, that way you can do what I was planning to do before, split the sound off from the video then hook it to the initial clicks only on the BT and save the audio as a mp3.
I had a good time this afternoon messing out with the different settings and such, too late to hit the rec button now, but I think I got it nailed. I´ll record it over this week on one of the afternoons off job, as daylight is much better for it, at least for my webcam. And PG, thanks again for pointing out those details. I´m sure if everyone sticks with the same format-settings-etc. your job mixing the stuff will be much easier.

Whatever you're comfortable with is fine:)

I'm a bit confused about your setup though. How do you get the audio from your Boss to the laptop with no USB or Line IN?

The Boss has a USB interface, but it acts as a drive, I mix down to WAV or MP3 on the Boss, then connect to USB and copy the files from its memory card to HD. It is not possible to use it as a USB preamp and record direct.
There are 2 folders on the memory card, MP3, which is the mixed work, and Projects, which is the song data. It is a real pity that it will not copy song data direct to a software mixer.

Finally got round to this. I'm on nights tomorrow, which means I get to stay up late and sleep in, so I got some computer time.
Decided to try the Art and Linda approach, so headed off to Morrisons for a bottle of their finest Kentucky Bourbon. (£10 a bottle, if you like Jim Bean give it a try). It don't work for me!!!! Each take got worse than the last :( Then realization dawned that I have not drunk more than 2 cans since Xmas .... zero tolerance to alcohol
