Saw this a couple of days ago. I thought it was fantastic, some of it really very, very funny indeed. As you'd expect from one of the most successful animations of all time. But I couldn't help but feel that for such a long time languishing "in the making", is that plot really the best they could come up with ?. Just felt I had seen it over and over again, the whole "Homer does something really bad and the family reject him, and so he embarks on a journey to win back their love." type affair.

The Simpsons movie is smashing fun and I enjoyed it alot. Frequently laughing my proverbial off to numerous moments, but while the buffed up animation and fancy artwork & design are a thing of beauty in such a CGI dominated era and market, I can't help but feel that it could have been so much more. They had an opportunity to flesh out a full plot without needing to cram it into 25 minutes of screen time, but they seemed to miss the boat somewhat.

In spite of what could be laballed a small lack of creativity in some areas, I would easily give the film a healthy...

3 1/2 out of 5 Stars. What did you guys think of it ?.

Ain't seen it yet.

LOL I usually wait on the DVDs anyway. I got a kickin' home theater with the hi def big screen, and 7.1 surround, and spent all the movie money buying it. For the $19.99 new release price, it's cheaper than loading the family up, and heading to the theater. When a large soda pop costs over $4.00, it's out of hand.

As far as what you said about the Simpsons plot, almost any TV to big screen remake follows closely whatever usual scenario the plots had on the TV. BTW, one of my high school friends used to write for them. She still may. Haven't spoken in a few years.

I usually wait for DVD's of most things too man, although there's the odd movies I just have to go see (Pirates, Harry Potters, King Kong etc). I saw this on DVD but it was a copy obviously. Quality was pretty good though.

Prices are pretty ridiculous for going to the cinema, but I don't mind. I actually like waiting a couple weeks till I know fine well there really won't be many people there. You get no idiots shouting, no kids talking all the time and no morons who decide to sit right infront of you at the last minute knowing fine well you can't move anywhere else.

For sure about the plot, seemed like a shame to me though. They had a great opportunity do to something they otherwise couldn't have done within the usual 25min time slot. But they didn't, well... they kinda did... but didn't at the same time lol. Still great though.

Get back here once you have seen it and give us your review of it man. It is a good watch though, should have been better considering the time spent on it, but yeah, it's really good anyway lol.

I really didnt think the movie was anything special. Sure, some things were really funny, but not really more than in a usual simpsons episode.
I don't see how this is different from a regular episode, except that it's longer, wich actually makes the thing a bit more boring, imho.
And most of the jokes were.. well... pretty funny, or ok, just not rolling on the floor funny

I also think it would have been great if they involved some of the "side characters" a bit more in the plot, instead of just trying to give as many of them one line each.

I agree Per, it's still really really good but... they kinda missed one too many opportunities I think. maybe they could make a couple more and have a trilogy lol.

South Park is great, so was Team America or w.e it was called. But those guys do nothing but hate everything, which gets stale now and then. Not everything is that bad guys, lighten up. lolol. Mind you... Tom Cruise in the Closet with John Travolta and R Kelly was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life... :)

I have only watched half of it so far.

However, of what I have seen I didn't find it as funny as an episode was. Kind of agree with Danny (shock ! Horror !) in that it had a very glossy look and feel to it, but just didn't seem to have the quality and laughs that your usual episode of the Simpsons has.

I was left thinking I wish I'd wtched an episode rather than the film, even if that episode was even monorail (probably the most repeated episode of The Simpsons in the UK).

It does house some VERY funny moments I thought, a certain moment involving Homer, 2 fingers and a Sinking Hole... I laughed SO hard when i saw that... it's his face that sells it... hilarity ensued. And when the guy throws the whatsit at the other guy only to have it miss and deflect back to hit him in the face... :)... plenty little moments of hilarity. Just the overall package should have been bigger and better rather than just a glorified episode.

Agreed. After like 20 years or so, it is pretty hard to stand off the clichès, it was funny, but I had the same sort of feeling when I went to see a Mr. Bean movie. It´s really hard to keep the spectators´ interest after so many years, but more or less it still holds up. As for South Park, well, I LMAO a couple times watching it, but I tend to think it won´t last as long as the Simpsons, I don´t know, too many easy laughing-current-naive jokes on it imo.
