Just curious and perhaps for discussion.
I loved "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" as a Classic...but some are shoe-in's so to speak (i.e. "The Godfather" and others).
What do you guys like as "Classics"?

Hmm... I tend to go for modern classics to be honest Serg. Like the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Matrix, Terminator 1 and 2 etc. Then you have the Indiana Jones original trilogy spanning the 80's. But for classics in the before the 80's vein... I really don't know. Godfather tops the poll for me. Im probably too young to get alot of joy from many films too far before my time. Not that they suck, I just like more up to date movies, I don't enjoy looking to the past a whole lot really. I count Edward Scissorhands as a classic, but that's for sure not what you mean.
Zulu was a pretty cool movie. How about the original Star Wars trilogy ?... classics surely ?...

I watch Lawrence Of Arabia about once a year, love that one great music, cinematography and story. O’Toole is great of course though a tad flamboyant - incredible movie the special edition dvd I have has really cool extras about the making of it too.
I like tons of old movies but that’s one I’d recommend to just about anyone. Just watched Some Like It Hot again the other day that movie is hilarious and well...Marilyn... nuff said.
To Kill A Mockingbird....Its a classic fav of mine..

Well, one classic I really love, and that I watch every now and then, is Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

I love From Hell, Highlander, Dude Where's My Car and Meet The Parents. The Green Mile was a great film and also Donny Darco.
But pretty much anything with Johnny Depp in it. He seems to get better with each film he makes.
Also, gotta echo that the Indiana Jones trilogy is a classic ! And Alien and Aliens is always one I watch when it comes on the T.V. even though I have them on DVD.
:headscratch:
Oh yeah, and Stand By Me.

Right on Per and Mondy. Ever since I saw the Deppster as Captain Jack Sparrow it just hit me how brilliant the guy is. My Depp collection has since grown to about 10 or so DVD's and numerous video taped from TV (Edward Scissorhands, Donnie Brasco, Ninth Gate, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, From Hell, Pirates 1, Secret Window, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Pirates 2). It was inevitable that I would become as much enfatuated with an actor as I have done with guitarists, my love for Movies and the movie world is only just surpassed by my love of guitars and guitar players.
You look at the films I mentioned above and ones such as Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Don Juan Demarco and so on and so forth. And you just have to be amazed at the range of roles he takes on. The mark of a top actor if ever there was one. He's made some crap though, but even the crap is watchable. Astronaughts Wife anyone ?... then you have the mediocre... Nick Of Time ?, The Brave ? etc.
Then theres his superb peice of work being sucked into a bed in Nightmare On Elm Street :). What appeals to me beyond his obvious talent is that he seems like a really cool down to earth kinda guy. If anything he's really quite shy and doesn't know what all the fuss is about... if only Yngwie was that cool
BTW, good call on Lawrence Of Arabi Eric. What an epic.

I would never ever place Star wars in a Classic category . I mean you have silly haircuts , hideous plots , hammy acting , im very impressed however at the millions gleaned from such a hammy film by the off shoot toy memorabilia .
The way to make good Sci Fi is the way Douglas Trumbull shoots it in his film Silent running , a subject matter which then seemed a little outrageous , and now is probably whats on every bodies mind .
Also consider Dark Star and 2001 SO , thing is i know i enjoy 2001 SO but i haven't got a bloody ckue as to exactly what is about . maybe its the music that supports each scene . or HAL .

My personal favorite Depp movie is "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".
He's got a deep role, and it's Leonardo DiCaprio's best as well.

Classic films for me may not be considered classics for others, but my 3 all-time favorite movies ever are "Raging Bull" starring Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci, "Superman: The Movie" starring the Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, and Marlon Brando, and "Rocky" starring Sly Stallone, Talia Shire, Carl Weathers, and Burt Young.
These films, and their sequels in most cases, have been staples throughout the course of my life. I have to watch them all at least once a year.
