Basically, this is a collaboration effort that I've dubbed “Don’t Drop the Ball”. The idea behind it is to, minimum, get 1 volunteer for each of the following drums, bass, 1 Rhythm, 1 Lead, Lyrics and Vocals. With those volunteers in place we can always add-on additional instrument slots. Once we have our cast of stars, here’s what will happen… The volunteer on Drums is going to supply a full song’s worth of just drums, either live or sequenced (just make sure there is a useable click in front). There are lots of midi loops/samples out there, verse snippets, chorus snippets… feel free to use things like that, but the overall piece should have the volunteers creative flow incorporated… builds drops, breakdowns, etc… you’re basically responsible for the structure of the tune in your own interpretation/style. It should have all the attributes of a ‘song’. The drum volunteer will then forward a copy to me… I will then forward the drums to the bass volunteer (no one else). The bass player will then lend his/her creative spin on what he/she’s hearing in the drum track. Using whatever lines and structure they feel fit. And then again, a copy will be sent to me with just the bass track (and click in) and 1 copy with both tracks. I will then forward a copy with the combined tracks off to the next volunteer… etc… etc… until everyone has added their part. Those at the end obviously have the benefit of hearing a “more complete” version of the tune, but are also going to be working within the lines of whatever is already laid into the piece. Those at the beginning have a wide open canvas however they also have to wait the longest to hear the finalized track. Now this is the “virtual” version of something done in the early jazz days. The difference being, guys switched instruments, or their professed styles when joining in. So in the spirit of that… If you normally build drums for metal tunes… take the challenge and try to write something that you wouldn’t normally put together. If there’s a choice between a rhythm style you’re comfortable with vs. something else that could fit… challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone. Regardless, it’s all blind from the get go… You volunteer with no knowledge of what will be passed to you. So you may not have a choice, LOL!!! At the end I’ll have everyone’s individual tracks and will mix it all up to be posted in the originals section. With any luck we’ll have (at least) a very interesting track to share and certainly a demonstration of the talent and diversity on this board. Sorry for the lengthy description of it all, but that was actually one of the "lessons learned"... LOL

hehehehe... since you get the track first... I guess it's really up to you. You can lay some atmospheric stuff, unitl you hit a section you think is "the solo" spot... Or do some subdued lead work throughout... it's your call. Obviously, you want to try and leave some room for the others to lend their parts, but this is also the interesting part of it. I know you'll do it justice.

Well, we are rolling kids... Got a GREAT drum track from Mr. Watson today. If you guy's know anyone with some bass / lyrics skills... PM'em and invite them to the party. Now... GT777 mentioned synthz for some key work... Nothing wrong with having some keys doing the bass work, and he's the man... So if somebody wants to send him a PM to let him know about it... cooool deal. My apologies guys... been stacked with things all weekend, all day concert... BBQ's, you name it. I needed to create a click to sit along side the drums and finally just got the chance to do it.

Another thing... ABSOLUTELY the Rhythm guitar goes first. My mistake copying/ pasting from the last thread that we did one of these. We've always done it with the rhythm guitar first. GT777, I can't post it here in the thread so let me know an e-mail addy to send the drum and click track to...

Good note... If you guys want to put your wav's out somewhere for me to pick up... that's best. Regardless, I'm expecting all of your individual parts in a single file mp3 or .wav (would be better of course). You'll get a mixed copy and the click to play to as your turn comes up. Also, be careful with reverb and post production effects and stuff. I'm not suggesting not to use whatever sounds you're hearing, but remember once it's in there I can't lighten them afterwards.

This is defnitely an exercise in broadening our musical horizons. Make sure you're getting the most out of it... and we're all with ya.

Just some background... What inspired me to do this originally was an article I read about the band Phish. They would switch instruments, or play opposite handed, and even blind-folded as an exercise to train their minds and ears for some of those awe inspiring jams they do. It was originally done back in the earliest of Jazz days. Sort of like switching from using one side of your brain to using the other. The idea is that it forces you to try/do things you normally wouldn't. Resulting in all kinds of new sound, technique, you name it... Anyway, this was the nearest I could come to it 'virtually'.

im playing a heavy part using dist on the left, but on the right side a funky almost clean wha-wha (sorry for the spoiler but its kinda necessary) to... you know....keep the "Funk" atmosphere.....

Using the whawha as this could be taken as lead guitar role? im using it for rythm porpuses...you know...that kkkwhaka, kwhaka...chunk, chunk.... ? Just rythm.

But if you guys consider this as lead role i take it out. I think it sounds good like this :) and its getting aaallll my attention at this point...

This way I can adjust the mix myself so I can hear each part! You can just send me your 7 RYM tracks as one track as long as there pretty much mixed so I can hear all the parts. Hey Johnny, it seems like you or whoever hit a click to a spam-web page. First of all, whoever reads this, DON´T hit the link above. Second, Johnny, go to the task manager (or whatever it´s called in english XP, you know, cntrl+alt+del). Try to find out the process working with it, shut it down, this may take you some time to figure it out, do it one by one. Then go to internet preferences and re-fix your main homepage, as thats the first thing these buggers do. Meantime download any spyware software, like adaware or such. Good luck man.

I had the same sort of thing a while back with Drivecleaner, kept telling me that there was loads of porn on the PC ... kids use this machine, porn is banned!!! Took ages to get rid of it, had no probs since I dumped IE for Firefox tho.

Well,...It looks like my man from Cutting Edge Technology Helped me out big time. I think I'll be back on line by tomorrow!! He is the man!! I'll lay down the bass track tomorrow!! Ok,...It's looks real good here!! I tried out my Sonar 4 and it works great!! My computer hasn't been this fast since it was new!! Roland from Cetechnology.net is the fucking man! He hooked up remotely and fix my computer! This guy found over 14500+ problems. I watched him do his shit and he did alot. It took him over 6 hours,..but it works great,..it's faster than ever now and my recording software works really fast now! I really don't know what he did but it works!! I'm very thankful!! Ok,...back to the tune,...GT7777 ripped this tune a new asshole with his RYM track. Very hard to lay down a bass track to,..BUT,..this is going to be great. I have some major great ideas for a good bass line! This is going to be good!! Just give me a few day or so,..and it'll be worth it!! I'm really happy about this and also about my computer being fixed!!

Hey Bahamut... do you have a wife or kids? This kind of reminds me of when you're trying to use the bathroom (and the rolling stone magazine goes in with ya), and the wife or the little one knocks on the door... you tell em you're in there.... not long after (and you know they haven't walked away from the door at all)... Knock knock knock... "Dad are you coming out"... I reply "just a minute". This goes on about 3 or 4 times until you finally reply, "No, I thought I'd stay in here til you wet yourself. I think I have a pretty good mix going on my end, but I do want to drop it to a disc and see how it sounds in the car (that's usually a good meter for me of how it's going to land in the grand spectrum of audio systems, headphones, etc...). I'll do it first thing tomorrow. I'm going to update this thread right before the post in the original section goes live.

Now without getting all mushy... you all did one hell of a job. That doesn't even begin to describe the effort put forth by all. The drums set a master stage, Chris really put this whole thing into another orbit from day one. The Rhythms were sweet as hell and hugely creative. The bass guaranteed a groove that couldn't have been done any other way IMO. The words... quite honestly are Brilliant (and I won't lie... being called Brah's... I wondered, LOL - no offense intended in any way shape or form Guitaral - you went above and beyond and delivered PHENOMENAL text). We all had to kind of know that the vocals were going to be something special, and in this case it was special and then some and ranks as one of my all time favorite performances to date. Mart claims he struggled, but quite frankly he'd probably cook my brain if I heard him doing something that spoke to him. His lead is sheer class, and comes across effortless and prolific in this piece. In a nutshell you all created a monster... an absolute monster. I hope this gets the traffic and attention because you all deserve the highest recognition and praise for it. It's totally unbelievable in the orthodox fashion of putting a song together.... It's out of this world knowing what the actual process was. Many of these for you all....
