http://www.shufflocity.com/variax.htm - this is a very honest sound sample comparison of the variax in use.

Thanks for the link!. I am very interested in purchasing a lefty one as I presume yours is. Having a PODXTL and no reason or likes for buying many guitars, I´m sure it should be a whole lotta fun!

go for the 500 if you are able to find one - they are being phased out (I think) and the guitar is constructed to a higher standard than the 300s. Also they are half their original mark up price here in the uk. ebay uk (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Line-6-VARIAX-500-electric-guitar-RED-LEFT-HAND_W0QQitemZ170024292905QQihZ007QQcategoryZ22966 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I am pretty happy with mine. It is really bright and has good sustain. I am tempted to buy a GK3 pickup for it so I can use it to drive the VG-88.

I liked my 300. It worked great for alot of things, and not so great fot others. Unfortunately I had to sell mine to JPF to afford my Martin. I'd like to buy another someday. :thumb:

nothing wrong with the 300 series to be honest. I tried both and went with the 500 because I prefered the headstock

One thing no-one mentions about the Variax is the delayed triggering on altered tunings. I find the tunings completely unuseable to be honest. Its not a bad delay but it only seems to really affect the treble strings which makes your playing feel "out." Of course, the models themselves are great and you can manually tune with no problem at all.

you should be fine - I think that link was for the shop Planet of Sound (http://www.theplanetofsound.co.uk/homepage.asp?p=3) and they are pretty reputable. the guitar is worth it for ths strat and tele sounds alone/ add a few decent acoustics and hollowbodies and it puts a smile on your face :)

ok excuse the rusty playing.. but this is an example of the acoustic run through a toneport (acoustic amp and ambience setting) apparently a gibson J-200 with natural treble rolled off to 50%

you could try here.... http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info%5fVARIAXCARLH%2ehtml - send them an email asking if they do overseas delivery. their T&C gives international dial codes so they might. Good luck.
