At last, I finally got around to watching this movie. After waiting an age to borrow the copy off my brother, I just went and acquired it myself.

I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must be one of the very few on the planet who had absolutely no idea about the movie, and so didn't know what to expect. I only knew that it was a blinding performance from Depp and that he based his character on Keith Richards.

That was it.

Had to watch it over a few nights, as I put it on at the end of the day when I'd put the kid to bed and the wife had gone to bed too. So that's probably why I've got a few gaps and parts that don't make sense to me now that I have watched it.

However, I just thought it an amazing film and can see now why Danny is hooked on the franchise.

I will have to go back to it, as there are things that I didn't understand that I guess I would have retained had I watched it all in one sitting. But it's definitely a film and if nothing else, a performance from Depp worth revisiting.

Now I'm glad I can get onto the second film in the series that I've had in my posession for fecking ages, whilst waiting to get hold of this one !!!

To me, they've been getting worse each movie although I really enjoyed the first one. Those two pirate guys (one with the wooden eye) always crack me up.

Right on Dave, all will become clear after a couple sittings. Needs to be start to finish though really mate. Watching 1, 2 and 3 in relatively quick succession should give you a headstart over those of us who waited the year or so long gap between each. The story/plot becomes a bit too convoluted in the third but once again, after a few watches it all adds up.

Critics seemed ready to slaughter the second two films for no real reason from what I can gather. Once they felt the artsy side the first had had gone, they had no interest whatsoever I guess. They seemed to think the plot didn't add together, that it had holes. Obviously they don't pay as much attention as us stupid obsessed fans haha, lots of subtleties to be picked up on which you miss the first couple of views. So stick with em (all 3).

Glad you really liked it mate, now watch the next one and then the third when you can, so we can have a good bit banter and crack about them.

And yeah, Depp is the master. And Capt. Jack is one of the most brilliant and iconic creations in cinema IMO.

Yeah, those two were good banter. But it's hard for me to get past him as the geeky guy in The Office.

Can't comment on the other two yet mate. But this first one was complex enough for me.

Fuck me Danny, anymore complex than this and I'll be sticking to Thomas The Tank Engine with my daughter !

Nah, looking forward to watching it again and then moving onto the other, where I will probably find I didn't really need to watch the first one at all !

Do you really hate the character and his performance that much, or are you just winding Danny up ? Or just a Depp hater ?

Just naturally interested, as I thought he was brilliant in the film.

He is winding me up mate, it's a popular past time for some because im too damn passionate about the things I like and will defend them far too far , Deppster is one of Porty's most highly rated if I recall our little chat on Yahoo a while ago.

As for the 2nd and 3rd. They follow on, you will need to see them in order mate. Alot of jokes will fly over your head if you haven't seen the film before it. But you have, so no worries. But aye, it's a trilogy and they follow on. Much like Matrix trilogy and the Alien Quadrilogy that I recently bought (9 disc DVD set... I know... 9 freakin discs).

And yes, once more. Depp is THE master. ;)

Oh dear. You don't fill me with much confidence quoting the Matrix trilogy and Alien trilogy beside this one.

Alien and Aliens were great, but they should have stopped there, and I'd have been more than happy if The Matrix had stopped after The Matrix.

:thumb:

I hope that this trilogy is better. I believe there's a good few hours of my time to invest. I may be 40 by the time I finish the 3rd film, and that's just if I sit through it in one sitting !

haha, I dunno Dave, I thought that Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were really good. Just, you know... compared to the genius of the original they look a bit cack. Given a good chance they shine on their own two feet (but you do need to be on the ball to know whats happening). Indeed though, the original is the only one you need to own.

As for Alien Quadrilogy. Aye, first One is CLASSIC, Second is apparently classic too but to me it's as dumb as fuck and nowhere near as clever or classy. But it's still fantastic anyway really, I guess. Then you come to Alien3 and Ressurection. Alien3 is crap... or is it ?. I watched the special edition of it and it was really very good, WAY better than the theatrical release. I think I may even prefer the special edition of Alien3 over the special edition of Aliens (which is better than the theatrical/original release). Ressurection ?... it's also pretty dumb, but I really enjoyed it, perhaps I wasn't asking as much from them as some did/do ?...

The Special Editions of Aliens and Alien3 have 20/25+ mins of extra footage each and it really explains a good lot more and beefs up some characters a great amount.

As for Pirates, many critics argue that the first one is great and the sequels suck. But if you are at all like me I reckon you'll find em all great great fun. Funny, Clever, Action Packed and gorgeous to look at.
