I have a 2003 P 2400 mhz running on 1 gb of old 266 Dram, original HD is a 40 gb, then purchased a 60 gb (both internal), that´s what I deal with and have enough storage as I burn everything to dvds-cds. Had to change mobo a while back due to capacitors going kapput, but oh well. I may grab me a new one next month, but in the meantime I take good care of this one. I like to defrag once a week both HD´s, and use regedit a lot for keeping it clean besides the usual antivirus stuff. What do you guys do for keeping things tidied up on your PC´s?

Every now and again i will use "Your uninstaller 2006 " , Lawrence put me onto it and i think its great . When i first used it i thought my drive was fairly clean , then it produced about 590 meg of junk , things i never knew i had :headscratch: .
Its on all good torrent sites , but i could put it into fileshare if you get issues .

I never have tried that one before. Thing is a lot of these supposedly 3rd party PC cleaners-spyware etc. such as Spybot search & destroy and similar are themselves full of shit imo, in the sense that they themselves, in order to be able to access everywhere within your HD at the same time leave a bunch of hidden processes and bugs, same as Panda, worst anti-virus program Iīve ever dealt with. If you hit ctrl-alt-del and see the number of processes running without being asked for itīs amazing. I tend to keep it under 30 all the time.

One app that might help you is free. It's gotten good reviews and I used it on my laptop and it also found about 590 megs of junk. (there is an option to install the Yahoo Toolbar on install, don't check that box. In fact, leave all blank except "add shortcut to shartup menu." It's got registry tools, and an uninstaller built in. (I would just use it to clean your HD). Do the defrag after you clean the PC up.

Thanks for the heads up 3F and i can honestly say it does a good job at cleaning , so good in fact that if found dead links to a Game installed on this laptop which all other cleaners failed to find .
Cheers :thumb:

Then I take it your PC is still functional and didn't crash your system? :thumb: Glad it worked out. It's a good tool. You can do it manually, but this is slick and quick.

Yeah, I had ran both of the tools in this thread and then my P.C. was running a little slower.
Forgot about the fragmentation.
I'd just reinstalled windows, then installed all my software on there and then I'd ran these two tools.
My C:\ drive was 65% fragmented. The drive map looked like a Monet painting !
But then, after defragmentation, it is running nice and fast again and not fragmented at all. Trust me to forget the simple things.

In addition to running everyone elses suggestions, update and run both of these programs at least once a week:
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10122137.html
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10747652.html?tag=lst-1
They are both completely free and very excellent adware/spyware removal tools.

I had those two installed a couple years ago. At first I thought they were great, until I realized how many shit they bring up to your TSR. Thanks for the links anyways, maybe some one will find them helpful.

Neither did I, until I hit the ctrl+alt+del and found out there were 5 different processes thanks to them. Spybot was ok, but Ad-ware is (was?) full of shit imo. Anyhow, I prefer to clean up my system with good old reg edit, it is a pain, but itīs me and no shitty TRS. I know, Iīm starting to get old......

Oh ok. I never noticed any of that, I just run them occasionally and forget about them. I'm sure there is better stuff out there, I just liked that they are free and pretty highly rated by the users. Of course, there are a lot of ways to do it.

I guess any software by nature has to load and use resources , no matter how small it is . I guess its a case of what your prepared to live with . Myself if your running over a gig of Ram on a 2 gig processor , which most folk have nowadays , then you really shouldn't worry to much .

Just as hardware technology keeps growing over the years, so does the memory needed for running bigger and more sophisticated software, plus the way to avoid seeing them on the taskmanager is really annoying sometimes.
Hereīs a lil neat program thatīs fairly new (and Micro$oft approved) I found out a few days ago, if anyone is interested. I basically is a DLL tracker and process killer with a neat interface, and runs by itself as an .exe, with no "intall.exe" program.

Aye, I use that one to kill off the MusicMatch process that opens a handle to any USB drives I connect, which then prevents me from disabling the USB connection from Windows.
