Had a little shindig over this past weekend. One of our friends is is very serious musician. He auditioned for Rock Star:INXS but, unfortunately, did not make it. Vanman met this guy last year. Anyway, late in the evening he started playing around with my little MRS-8 multi-track recorder and produced the post I am presenting here. He couldn't have been up in my studio for more than 30 minutes and he only had access to my Fender Strat for guitar. He used the MRS-8 for Bass simulation, funky rhythms, and distorted leads. He used a plain old Shure mic for vocals.
I really enjoyed this and I almost deleted it because I was about to erase the SD card (MRS-8 writes to these) for more projects. Hope you like this.

Geez dude this is pretty sweet for only screwing around for a half hour, he definitely has a lot of talent. So you didin't get a chance to get in on the recording?

No, that's the funny part. I ran down to get more beers to bring up to the studio (I really should put a 'fridge in there) and got caught up in conversation. When I made my way up he had already set up the mic and what have you. He didn't waste any time. I didn't get a chance to give him access to the instruments in the other room. He did the whole thing with just my Strat and mic and that MRS-8. I'll post some tunes we did together after I encode them.
Thanks for listening to this. Your response is exactly the reason I am glad I didn't accidentally record over this. I thought it was very good for a quicky performance. By the way, nothing was added to polish the track. That MRS-8 produces fantastic sounding projects. I love it to bits.

Hello Pete :) You have a talented mate there for sure. this is pretty cool but the thing that impressed me most was the bass simulation - I take it he was playing a bass and not entering the notes on the touch sensitive keys?
Funky for sure:D
Cool tune!

What up, Lawrence! No, he laid the bass track down using my Fender Strat and a bass sim effect on the MRS-8. I was very impressed with the result. As I mentioned, I had no idea he ran up ahead of me and this was all completed by the time I caught back up with him. He didn't know where any of the other instruments were.

Guys thanks for the feedback on this. I am passing it on to him when I see him. He is recording a new CD and I am going to the release party later this month. I plan to invite Bob to this (same place as last year). There will be several bands, including his, playing. I will get permission to post a track that he picks out to showcase. He's a very impressive performer and he writes great music.
