Been getting into more blues lately and love this track done by the Soggy Bottom Boys. Sound goes a bit funny in places but just a bit of fun. Peavey EXP into PODxt... :thumb:

Cool man, I love this one. The movie was great as well. Gotta love how to fit a greek classic into the deep south hehe. Bluegrass purists would put their hands up on their heads listening to something like this done with an electric guitar, but hey, ya did one hell of a job, played with as much passion as it should have, even coming from an englishman, :p J/K. 5'vers here man :yourock:

Cool! I really love this song! Dan Tyminski playing and singing the version from the movie actually. He performs this one on the Eric Clapton Crossroads guitar festival dvd, it's really cool.

I've been wanting to play this for a long time but never really got it together. I'm gonna see if I can steal some stuff from your video here ;)

Anyway, great playing here. I would have loved to see this done on an acoustic instread, but still great. And your vocals really fit this song very well! You just need two redneck hillbillies to help you out with some backing vocals :D

Gotta say mate, I can see the heart & soul you've put into the performance (plenty 'o' gurning there that I, or GM would be PROUD of! :notme: ) and what I could hear sounded damn good. :D

But almost all of it was dominated (read "drowned") by the booming in the bass register, which didn't help since there was a LOT of bass pedal notes in there. Or was that just my speakers not being up to it? :brickwall:

"Dog House"!

It's drop D mate and then capo'ed at the third. Not sure if that was how the original was done but listening today thats what I heard. Also, was only recorded with the little mic in the camcorder so not that good for picking up all the frequencies. :thumb:

Hey mate this is very cool, love it.
By the way i downloded the vid and did a little mix of it in soundforge 8,managed to get the booming down quite a bit, compressed it a tad and reverbed it!Do you want to hear it mate?

Yeah, why not. Was only a quick take with me singing acoustically - no mic - and I kept drowning the guitar out! So it was turned up LOUD!

Hey man, to tell you the truth, I think the number you see by the track does not necessarly correspond to the downloads imo. Maybe just the people who came in the post. Not sure about it though. But jeeze, you are for sure one impatient man!

wahwah
09-29-2007, 02:01 PM
Not impatient at all...I'm not asking people to check it out; I'm asking those that have to comment. Hell, I don't listen to as many as I should but everybody I do get's a reply. No doubt this will get more replies than the piece of music so maybe I've cracked a marketing potential.

Forfuckssake mate, don't do this!
If people don't comment then that's their prerogative.
Mate. I've been lambasted on here for being nothing but honest in the past. I've noticed that if your comments aren't at least 99% possitive, you're best off not saying anything :brickwall: (Unless you're Danny that is)

Steve has posted quite a few covers on here over the last 6 months and I dare say he'd more than likely hoped for a comment on at least one of them from your good self.

Anyway back to your vid. It's quality, I watched it yesterday but was too pissed up & knackered to post. For me it's nothing surprising, it's just showing the diversity I've always seen in you. :thumb:

You're missing the point mate. If I listen to Sky's stuff I'll comment. I'm not bemoaning hits...I do very well. But when something is free, you could at least say 'I loved it; or 'it was not my cup of tea'. Saying feck all is simply rude. I've always felt this way-it's nowt new.

OK...here goes!!!! :dunno: Chris, You know, as well as I do, that you have to give comments in order to get comments. How many songs have you commented on in the last two months? Which is worse? Listening and not commenting...or not bothering to listen at all?? Are your posts the only things that matter to you? Are you that egotisical?? I really don't think you are but, that's how you come across!!! Quite often I'll read through one of your posts and you've taken the song down because you weren't getting enough hits or you blast people for all the hits and lack of comments. Not trying to start any kind of trouble....just trying to point out what you already know. There are people who always ignore my posts, for whatever reason. That's cool...I just ignore their posts...very simple. But, if someone loyally listens and comments on my stuff then, I make sure to listen and comment on theirs. It's not rocket science!!! Chris, I've known you since WAY BACK in the old guitarbattle.com days....so PLEASE, don't take offense!!!!!

Peace!!!!

I liked the video. I remember the movie well and this song was definitely a wake me up tune. You have a great voice. Very nice guitar work. Good bit of fun.
:thumb: (I would have liked the acoustic too, but that guitar was nice to see. I thought it was a Tele with 3 pickups).

Thanks for the listen and comment. SG, not offended at all but if it's a scratch my back and I'll scratch yours then no, it won't work because I'm not asking you to listen, I'm asking you to commment if you did...and is the only reason you came to look is to see what comment I put up? I don't get enough time to listen to everybody but I will champion new people for encouragement...I think I'm the only person on the site who has bothered replying to Davy Pattinson;s post. So, for the record, I thinkworse to listen and not comment than not listen at all.

Cheers sg, ender and 3fingers.

its a great job mate. I prefer the Dylan arrangement myself but hey this was good!! BTW - the hits on the Vid are not an indication of viewings, they are more likely search engine "spiders".

Thanks Porty. The funny thing is it was a student who is mad on Dylan and wanted to learn it. I listened but because Dylan is not one for counting bars in 4's (just likes to go to a chord when he feels like it in his early stuff!), we couldn't make head nor tale of it. Soon as I heard this drop D version it all made sense.

As for the 'spider' thing, I can see that to a point...but 167 of them at the last count? Nah...

Thanks Steve. To be honest, as soon as I heard the song from the film, I heard that drop D and it works wonders. :thumb:

not really my cup of tea, didn't enjoy the version on the crossroads dvd - but wanted to have a listen to this, but for some reason my POS computer won't do anything with a wmv file at the moment, I must have upset it somehow ;)

Just thought I'd comment for the hell of it, so I have no idea what its like but I'm hoping its better than the Crossroads DVD version

Hahaha, that was Fk'ing funny, you created a few waves their Lad. I always post a comment once I've listened to something (Unless its complete sh1t, then I don't bother, I don't like putting negative crap on someones work!). If its a type of music that I am not into, I sometimes skip it also.

I must have missed this first time round, I thought this was great, not too familiar with the tune, but the playing was very nice as always mate.

Was this in Crossroads? I saw it in 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou'...great, great film. So I have no idea if it was as good as that one. It certainly wasn't as good as the 'Oh Brother...' one! It needs the backing vocals. I might do a full version for a laugh. :thumb:

Cheers mate. I think the problem is that we don't give proper feedback...it's 5 stars or nowt...not sure why that came about but if it was a dance competition and everybody was scoring 9's or zero's, there'd be an enquiry!!!!

I was thinking about this the other day, with regard to the rating bit, I think there should be just one rating, not a 5 star rating, but a tag saying Recommended or something.
I can see why 5 stars are always used though. This place is full of people who encourage and can appreciate others musicanship whatever the level. I would hate for this place to become bitchy like the petrucci forum, some nasty little kids on that forum !!!.

Sometimes i look at the star ratings first , beside the songs , and im thinking why is that not the way to find our monthly mp3 winner . Each months star could be a different color so we know the votes are for that particular month , and who ever has the most gets the award . At least everybody can see whos doing what . At the moment i think people are a little frustrated at not been able to see just whats going on .

Now that is a good idea BP, would really use the rating system properly. Must admit I think people have there own ideas on what the rating system is for.Sometimes I rate something based not just on the quality of music, but also if somebody has really excelled themselves and things like that. So alot of the time the top rating gets used for all kinds of reasons, which is all good.

Oops Apologies Chris, don't want to hijack the man thread now. !!!
