This was a ground up job. Robbie made the backing from scratch. He created the Drums, Bass, added his Guitar playing, with the layers and the fills and the first solo, mixed it, mastered it, tweaked it. It was not a MIDI conversion. He basically made the tune!! (and this was my idea to cover lol)!! Thanks Robbie!! You go the extra 2 miles always!!

I took the vocals and the outro lead. It was a blast!

Thanks guys.

Well, originally crafted MIDI or not, the overall production and mix is delicious and wonderful!!! Will definitely be saving this recording. This sounds very professional, like it could come from a store-bought CD, in both performance and overall sound. This is not a clapton tune that I have heard much (I recognize it, but could not recite the lyrics nor play it from memory), but I could just assume listen to this version and not need to hear the original. Robbie, your late 60/and 70s guitar style is really top game. I feel a nice subconscious mix between Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana in the lead work. Sergio, you sound really confident, natural, warm, smooth and bluesy in these vocals. A "very natural mix" is how I would describe the vocals/guitar work in this recording. Robbie, your choice of SoundFonts/VSTi's sounds really great. You have stepped up a few notches in professional development recently. it is great to hear!

Definitley Nom-time!

Incredible work-Robbie-this track is very pro. A very stinging lead and nice tone around the 4:30 mark
Serg-one of the most soulful performences. this deserves a nom and 5 stars.

oh yeah, :woot:. PERFECT listen guys. Funny I bought the unplugged tape many years ago and never heard the original. But knowing how perfectionist and talented musicians you both are I presume it canīt get much better than this. 5+nom.

Well this is wonderful. I always thought that Clapton and Robert Cray should write more tunes after they did this. Cray adds so much more scope and depth to Clapton on this tune.

And your version is lovely and warm and feels very close to the original but different enough to be unique. Vocals and guitars are top rate - instant nomination time!

But the real big improvement is the backer. This sits up and begs for more listens and it is lovely. The drums (EZDrums?) sound very full and have much more depth than I normally associate with your backers Robbie but they also have space to breathe in the mix - thats something I always aim for but hardly ever get right. You got it right here and the whole soundstage is perfect. This really is an excellent conversion and a brilliant mix too.

You and Sergio are always a joy to listen to, but you raised the bar here because the backing actually sounds fresh and like it can breathe.

Very impressive guys.

***** and a Nomination!!

Thx vm everyone for the kind words!!!! Sergio is always a pleasure to work with!!!:woot: When Sergio suggested this song, I had never heard it so, he pointed me to a youtube video of a live Clapton performance. So I watched and then went looking for a midi backer. The one I found was pretty decent but, closer to a different youtube Clapton performance. Now, normally I try to do solos note for note but, since Eric himself doesn't do it with his own songs...I decided to put in my own solo. Also, some of you may not have picked up on it but, Sergio is doing the guitar work from 4:18 to the end....very tasty stuff:bowdown: !!!!

Lawrence...tyvm for the kind words on the backer. I didn't use ezdrummer but, the midi file had all the drums and cymbals in separate tracks. So, I used two different cymbal tracks and two different drum tracks all with different soundfonts.

Sooo....thx again everyone!!!!:D

well this just kiss ass in a whole bunch of ways guys, I'm sure you had to do tweaking and spend a lot of time on the mix on this midi backer Robbie because these things usually sound like canned ass and this has none of that quantized pc generated feel to it. Vox were impassioned and the solos were a blast to listen to - felt like a 3 minute tune - had to loop this one! *****

Guys,

This is such as well put together piece of music. vocals are very special, lots of character (IMO better than claptons), as was the BT, guitar work, production, everything. I'm one of these ignorant gits who's never spent time listening to the greats like Clapton, Hendrix etc but this stands on its own as exceptional work. Really dug listening to this. top marks from me. :thumb:

Great job on the mix. Was the midi file pre-panned for the instrumentation?? Sometimes the programmer does a good job and other times not. This one has excellent stereo separation and was wondering how much was done in the mix down. Nice to hear the both of you solo on this one too. We don't hear Serg play often enough, since his vocal talents are always in demand. Sweet song selection!! Five stars here!!

One last thank you for taking the time to listen and give your feedback guys. It's appreciated. Cheers!!

Thanks Robbie. You are a definite blast to colab with. (How long did that backing take to make from scratch again?)

High quality work here, gentlemen. I loved everything about this one...the backer sounds very pro, the guitar playing slices through like a hot knife through butter, and the vox are superb.

Very excellent work here guys, this one is definitely a keeper...going in my GBlast folder right now.

Masterful stuff guys. I love this song...sounds similar to a track I've always wanted to cover called 'The Bluest Blue'. Nice guitar textures there and the mix is great MIDI backer or not-you can hear the time and effort that has been put in. Excellent job guys.
