Hi Guys,

I've just managed to complete my cover of this new Satriani favourite of mine. After I heard Super Colossal (Thanks for that Mart !:thumb: ) I just had to give this a go. I decided once again to do the whole track from scratch. I ended up recording 42 tracks, most of which are the clean rhythm tracks. Lots of layers, did the drums, bass and keys on my keyboard live and a little programming on the drums. I got the basic BT going and then started layering stuff. I did the whole tune by ear so not note for note, put a little of my own creativity in there and it turned out a little more funkier than the original. Also with the volume of tracks was a challenge to mix and master. Anyways, here it is, nice to do something a little more laid back. Feel free to comment on advice and stuff, if it does'nt sound good, let me know LOL.:thumb:

Wow!! Completly mind blowing cover you did bro!! Specially the clean rythm work...the tone you got there is fucking amazing!!! What did you used for this tone, i mean guitar-gear- etc!
Also your lead tone was to die for. A completly and definetly a winner. Is onmy cover folder and its hard to get there....You dont need a nomination to know this one is beyond this league  :yourock:

Have the album and shamefully don't know any of the songs on it :o but this certainly has Satch right thru the vibe. I always love how his lead lines are like vocals and I try to learn from him that less is more and a good tune you can hum is vitally important for those people who listen but don't play an instrument. You did that effortlessly. STILL haven't got Lawrie round for that sax solo BTW mate. As he's 67 I reckon I better get a spurt on! :tmi:

Great playing and mixing here mate. :thumb:

simply beautiful. The amount of work you put in Justin is incredible and it shows. This sounds awesome, you are one talented musician.

Loved it, I am guessing the guitars were all toneport GX:thumb:

Anyways, 5 stars + a nom, and go have a beer to celebrate my friend:wavey:

are you nuts? i could never devote that much time to a song and do 40 some tracks. sure sounded worth it though. i thought you did an awsome job on it. like chris i also have this album and don't know any of the songs on it. i gave it a couple listens and really didn't like the direction he was going.

Hi GT, thanks bro for listening to it and the kind words. The clean rhythm was the hardest part, to get all the layers to work, had to do the basic bit first then started just adding and having fun. I used my Ibanez SA2160 guitar which has Single coils, I used them for all the cleans. I used my Toneport GX for all the tones, I programmed about 4 tones just for this tune.

As far as BT goes, its all my own work, you'll only find this BT on my hard drive LOL. And by all means bro I will send it to you. Let me know what you want me to keep and want you want to record yourself.:thumb:

Hey Chris, thanks for checking it out, shame on you, you need to hear the original as its a beautiful track. really appreciate your comments. Hey oh yeah I forgot about the Richard Marx track, no worries on that, the version you sent me was great without the sax. Cheers mate.:thumb:

Hey Mark, thanks very much bro, it was a big hill to climb on this one, and took a lot longer getting things down and mixing it, I had no choice with the amount of stuff I recorded.LOL. All the tones are GX, I made the main clean one using that Budda Zen amp and was a good match for the tone on the original track, the lead was the Diezal VH4 sim and also used that with pickup volume down for the dirtier rhythm work. Cheers for listening bud.

Hey Kenny, I'm starting to think I'm nuts, LOL, every tune I decide to cover always seems to be a good idea in theory and then I realise what an idoit I am, and I was beginning to P1ss the Wife off as well.:slap: with the time I spent on it.

Must admit, when I first heard Super Colossal, I did'nt care much for it but it grows on you fast and there are some jems like RedShift Riders and a few others including this one. Thanks for taking the time to listen bro, always appreciated.:thumb:

Hey Mart, Thanks very much for checking it out and your comments bro. If it was'nt for you giving me the album in the first place, I would'nt have made it, so big thanx. This song was one that I took my time on and tried to capture some of the detail of the original but still keeping some of my own style in there. It turned out better than expected, did'nt think I'd be able to pull of the clean playing. But glad that so far its not been damned. Thanks again Mart.:)

Absolute class mate, the rhythm alone was always going to be trouble, but it sounds spot on to my ears, the whole song does for that matter, the tones, the playing, the backing, just superb.
A huge 5 stars, wish i could give 10 :thumb:

Hey Jamie, Thanks very much for checking it out. Yep, the Rhythm was something that made me think twice but I gave it bash, I did have a risk of my PC crashing with all the tracks LOL, but came out ok in the end. Thanks for the stars mate...really appreciate it!!!:thumb:

Hahaha, Hey Nags...you are dead right!, I am so glad this B'stard is over with, it did'nt take a hell of a long time, just that I have so little time anways, had to keep sneaking off whilst the Wife was not looking HA. Once I started and had the basic track down, I kept adding things, there's a lot of production into this as well, like automated fader movement for panning and volume of tracks. A little more extravagant than I usually do.
Bro, thanks for checking it out, and glad you liked it!. Funny, I still love the orginal track which is a first!!.

LOL - Hey Tony, thanks very much for checking it out and your comments, really apprecate it Bro. Well, Sounds a lot of tracks but remember that they were'nt all filled up with music and some were doubling the same part. It was the Clean parts that took most of the tracks, I made the basic Rhythm that you hear at the very beginning Left Channel, Doubled it and then did the same for the right channel, but the right channel kicks in about 4 measures after which gives that shuffle groove sound, then I added some harmony parts to that for both the L & R side, then the clean funky rhythms, then the clean chorus rhythms (4 different variety's), light distorted rhythms and fills, You got the leads for the main theme, middle solo, you got that Flanged panning rhythm which is actually one of the main clean rhythms but processed, you starting to get the picture dude!. I colour coded them and minimised them when not working on them, I had to keep backing up my work for fear or accidentally deleteing anything. Doing all this on a 15inch TFT monitor is no Joke bud LOL. But in the end, I got the job done. Its not too far from the original and its a nice laid back non shred thing which I am glad you enjoyed bro. Many thanks man.:)
