Thanks guys! Yeah thats whats cool about a bt like this. You get a flood of Ideas. I could have approached it a dozen different ways. I had to stop and think how to make it sound "Halloween" to make it sound eerie and scary. Kinda hard to do. I just thought how Dime and Tony Iommi would have done it, and did a mixture of both. I played most of the main lead in a different key than the rhythm and stayed away from alot of the pentatonic I normally do (curse you Ace Frehley). The strings being so loose from tuning down just let me do extra bending and created a cool effect. The solo at the end is just me ticking lol.(fretboard tourettes). Just move your fingers fast and make a mean face:rock: True there are some killer entries for this. Hope to hear more!

I could never have put lyrics to this one. Very heavy and brought a huge disturbing feel to the song with the vocals and the tone of the guitar.

God damn, MuRpH !
That was so heavy and Moody. I think someone else here said that it was very reminiscent of Black Label Society. But I liked it a lot better. Some great playing there. I love the playing around 2:24 - 2:39. I'd love to be able to play like that. Well, I can, just not as cleanly or as musically, or as fast !
A great entry. Dark, moody, and bloody scary ! The outtro section is stellar. I just didn't bother playing because I didn't know what the hell to do over that part !

Nice entry Dave! At the very start it sounds a bit like mine but then you go off on a freestyle solo...but thats always gonna happen when we are all given the same key to play along to!
I especially like your tone here. You have some very nice little phrasing in the middle before and after the "TITS" sample LOL. Also enjoyed the octave apart piece.

Cheers for the feedback, HansHolz. I haven't got around to yours yet, but I can assure you that any resemblence to yours is completely coincidental. I didn't listen to anyone's beforehand, not because I feared that they would influence me, but because usually it puts me off entering because I then believe I will never produce anything as good as the rest.
Whether or not I can or not is neither here nor there. The point is, I shouldn't be put off by it. So I chose not to listen to anything until I had posted mine up.
That said, I'm extremely proud of this feedback. That means I must have done something right if I picked the right notes as you. I couldn't tell you what key the song was in, or what I was playing myself. I just knew that if I started on the 9th fret on the G string and gave it a yank and a pinch, it sounded OK.
Knowing me, I'm probably still stuck in some safe form of pentatonic. :slap:
I half expected it to get ridiculed and thown out of the competition, but that's down to me holding the rest of you guys in such high regards.
That said, onto the rest of the feedback.
Macman, yours was a very strong entry. The samples and playing really build up the mood of your tune. Very intelligent use, great tone and good mixing. Excellent playing throughout, and like I say, the tone had that really spooky, creepy feel to it.
Another amazing entry. Thank God I didn't listen to any beforehand or I would never have entered.
:bitchslap:
Oh, p.s. Thanks for the kind works from Bahamut, also. It was a great backer from you, so half the job had already been done. Glad you haven't thought I butchered it !

Wig, that was dark as hell itself lol, excellent work, loved the lyrical approach to it, plus all the touches through out, really enjoyed it mate, top job :yourock:
Hans, an excellent take on this, reminds me of Vai in your playing, loved the use of the trem tricks for some spooky effects, and some great playing too, the screams you added were brill, although if she can scream that loud, she should be fine over halloween  , great work mate :thumb:
JB, awesome work, the harmonised guitars really sounded great, and some excellent trickery too, it really added to the feel of it, and i must admit, one of my fav takes so far :thumb:
And finally, Greetings Mondy :D , brilliant take on the track mate, the guitaring was great, we don't get to hear you play half enough, and i loved the little effects you added in too, really added to the feel of the track, great work

Mondy, You're way too hard on yourself man... I thought yours was way cool!!! The samples came off like they were done just for the piece. And your playing sets such a great mood all the way through. I'm basing my own vote, more on the creativity vs. the virtuaosity... And this has both!!!

I didn't listen to anyone's beforehand, not because I feared that they would influence me, but because usually it puts me off entering because I then believe I will never produce anything as good as the rest.
No problems, mondy...wasn't suggesting any influence. I also avoided listening to the others before recording, still it didn't stop me using the same sample as Dances with Guitars! It happens every single time I write my own little tune, I end up having some self doubt thinking, "its prolly a subconscious rip off of someone elses...." So deliberately stayed clear of everyone's tunes til mine was recorded and posted.
Hans, an excellent take on this, reminds me of Vai in your playing, loved the use of the trem tricks for some spooky effects, and some great playing too, the screams you added were brill, although if she can scream that loud, she should be fine over halloween , great work mate
Blimey, Avalon. I don't think my name and Vai's have EVER been used in the same sentence before!! Except maybe my wife saying "I dont like your guitar playing, Jim, Got any earplugs aVAIlable??" LOL :slap: Thanks very much for listening and commenting. I'm in awe of all the entries here. And like someone said before, it's not like a competition. Hi there,
First things first, I would like to post a remix of my song, if this is OK with you guys ? Only because I fecked up the mix with the backing track and lost the 3d ness of it, I feel. Whilst panning my guitars for the dual octave part, I set everything else dead center, which was a dickead thing to do, considering I had separated out the backing track into left and right channels.
Anyway, I believe I have fixed this in the new version.
I have not changed anything in my playing, I don't think that would be fair to do so. I checked with Bahamut, and he says it is OK to repost. However, I want to check with all you other entrants too. If any of you object to it, I am happy to leave it as it is, as the remix was only done for my own satisfaction really.
Let me know if you object guys, as like everyone has said here, it doesn't feel like a competition, just a jam with friends, and I'd hate to do something to mess up that spirit.
Now, onto the feedback...
Avalon, I know. Something I plan to put right. I am always complaining that I am not good enough, but bottom line is I don't practise enough, and that is something I am addressing. This will lead to more posts by me in the future. Keep it coming with the good backers and you never know what might happen !
Wigrocks, I know man. It's just the standard on this site man. It's awesome. Most of what I hear is jawdropping. And so when I come to pluck the strings myself, it's very easy, for me at least, to get into the mindset that I will never be good enough. However, I have learned that several beers kinda kills that train of though ! :D
Murph, from a player like you, it means a lot. I take it that I must be doing something wrong and can only strive to do it better, like you guys all do. :D
Hans, I know what you mean about the subconcious rip offs. I am always mindful of a quote be Eddie Van Halen who says, "There are only 12 notes. How you mix them up is your own business !" I always think, 12 ? Shit, there's bound to be something I play that sounds like someone elses !!!
Jeffery, cheers for the kind words. It really means a lot. I like Cubase, it is harder to learn, but everything seems to sound that much better to me. Yep, that was my EVH Peavey Wolfgang Special. Not sure if you were asking what I meant by the phrase Woflie, or whether you couldn't believe that I got that tone out of a Wolfgang ? :headscratch:
Anyway, cheers guys. I have missed this kind of thing, and musn't leave it so long before posting again, I forgot how addictive this thing is and how bloody great and supportive you guys are !

Hey, cheers for the props, CC.
Wigrocks, I have just listened to yur track, and found it... haunting. Really. The mood you created with the lyrics with them coming into you in waves, just feels like your being spooked out by a spectre of some sort.
One with a sad tale to say that isn't going to vanish until you understand.

Crikey, HansHolz ! What a cracker ! Excellent playing throughout, and I absolutely loved the sound samples. Just brilliantly done throughout. The effects on the guitar and ping pong panning were disorienting.
Just built up a really good mood, and I really enjoyed it.
I can hear what you mean about us starting of. Kind of like we both started off at the starting blocks with the track open in front of us. Everyone expects us to run round the track. Then I bugger off down the tunnel and out of the stadium and you jump head first into the crowd !

Thanks Dave. The patch I used was basically the VH Baluchiterium patch with a touch more flanger on it. Tried to get a VH Intruder vibe going towards the end of the piece.
I know what ya mean, about the running track analogy. I think I ran half way round and then started making sand castles in the long jump pit though! LOL

Bloody hell, Bahamut. Certainly did raise the bar. Really nice and heavy throughout and disturbing mix of tones on the vocal samples.
The start reminded me of the Simpsons Halloween Music because of the tone, but after that, Simpsons it was not.
Like the break down into the acoustic at the end, but damn, this was heavy.
Incidentally, did Dallas re-upload his in the end ? I haven't seen it yet.

its great how we have so many individual songs in their own right from the same backer. Bahamut's sent shivers down my spine, and I really like Mondy's remix.
... there's a competition at the end of it !
...speaking of which. I didn't notice any dates on closure for entries or when the voting starts? I'm going away for few days, dont wanna miss it.

You are the big fish in this forum as the moderator of it. So you can close the contest and announce me as the winner, I mean open the poll, whenever you like !
Did you get that package of bank notes that I set you for no apparent reason for you to do with as you please ???
