The other day at work I was telling this guy that I was planning on upgrading from my AMD 1800 chip eventually. He then invited me into the lab and said here.. handed me a brand new Intel motherboard and chip, the chip is a Core Duo 2.93 GHZ, almost the equivalent speed of a P4 600 GHZ (if such a thing existed). So I went out and got 2 GB RAM and a PCI Express video card and my system is flying now, last night I both downloaded and installed Firefox in less than 30 seconds, no lie.

Wow. I wonder if the motherboardīs FSB is able to transmit the info fast enough.

Yeah, very little investment. I am still bottle necked by my IDE hard drives but it's still much faster than it was and I only had under 1 GB RAM on my old board, it was built before DDR so there is a noticable improvement there.

Aye, I want one of them too. Make sure it isn't called HAL, otherwise you're fucked.

"I'm sorry, Eric, I'm afraid I can't do that !"

ah! The perks of the job!! Great news Eric! I have been looking to upgrade as well. I have this P4 overclocked to the most it will ever do. Core 2 Duo should also be more power efficient and will save money down the line on electricity.
(runs at 65watts). :thumb: :thumb: Great score!!

I used to have the "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that", and, "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?" sounds for a couple of the serious Windows Error prompts.

I was running Windows ME at the time, and as you can imagine, these prompts popped up numerous times. I think it was 3 days before I took them off because it was seriously creeping me out...

I've never been much for overclocking simply because I don't have a real need for it, mostly all I use are text editors and web browers lol. Although I did replace the loud ass stock fan with a ninja so it's way quiet now. :D

Hey the Ninja is known to be a kick ass cooler! Good move!
(I think overclocking when you get to the end of the life cycle on your CPU is a good thing. If I toasted it, the replacement cost for this model is about $60 now).

In 7 years when you need an upgrade, just OC for a few more years. :)
