Ok, here's another wacky J.C.S. song. Once again, no midi so this time I played the drums on my electric drums. I'm no drummer so I simplified them quite a bit and it certainly has it's fair share of timing issues (did i mention I wasn't a drummer???) but I did my best and had a good time. I did the guitars, "bass" and vocals too. Crank it up!!!

Well I have to say, I AM a drummer and you did an absolutley stellar job on this, especially as it has the weird time signature about a third of the way in. It's easy to speed up when you play this slow. You were solid. On to the guitar...
Ouch! that intro tone is HARD and HEAVY, But I likes it like DAT, bro. All your stuff has a grit to it that I like. I don't know the original song. Pipes up next...
You're a pretty versatile singer, from dirty growls to melodious stuff. This song has all that in it. Really powerful pipes. I tried to sing a couple of songs in this style and I ended up coughing up blood! :maddance:
All in all, 5s from me! Great groove, backed by wicked guitar playing and a confident versatile vocal dragging us by the balls through to the end of the song. :yourock:

Great work mate, as always the guitars were powerful and full of energy, loved that straight off, and also great work on the production side, you have done great with the drums too, as a scratch builder i can really appreciate the extra care that was needed in that middle section, you really did well on it, and throughout.
5 stars mate :thumb:

Another great reply! Avalon, you are the master of all things backing track so that's fantastic feedback. I played the drums along side the original track so that's why the timing isn't any worse than it is.
Also I didn't have a bass to use so I played my Ibanez MTM-1 thru a bass preamp and dropped it an octave in Adobe. That's right....GHETTO bass!! :toothless:

I'll have to try that myself, i've messed about with acoustics drop-tuned with the right kind of setting as a bass to quite good effect (recorded it on a few tracks too) and its a great idea how u recorded yours, i love abit of good improvising :)
Again mate, great work :thumb:

What a great song never heard it before. A complex song with a lot going on in there. I can truly appreciate the work that had to go into this. The drums sound fantastic - in fact make me want some electronic drums as I get sick of midi's (but hey midi's are a great resource right), great vox and loved all guitar tones. You dialed in a fair few tones to pull this off - much work went into this on all levels.
I particularly like your Megaphone vocal section and the way you mixed that , with some echo of your voice out to the Left channel, very clever.
How long did this project take including mixing and mastering??........must have kept you awake at night a bit.:tard:
This is a very good song, I like that clever change, there is like a chromatic run type thing going on.
Superb work worthy of a definite Nomination ....5 stars mate:bowdown: :yourock:

You have a great ear Mark. I did the heavy rhythm tones with my Splawn and the single-note solo type stuff direct thru my Roland modeler in my studio. The modeler track was supposed to be a scratch track but it sounded so cool mixed with the Splawn I kept it. Thanks for the listen and great feedback. :thumb:

never heard this before. i wouldn't know where to start. you play the drums pretty well for a guitarist. its actually hard to play drums along with a track and most experienced drummers have a hard time doing it too. i'm going to stop by and steal that splawn too unless jpf beats me to it.

Excellent song here Matt , yeah Av and i were talking about electronic drum kits not so long back and how they sounded on a track, now we have our answer lol :D
Fantastic work with the drums m8, i know you have to have a damn good sense of timing with playing them , the bass also sounded excellent with that way you did it, its fantastic trying out things like and it can be suprising how effective they can be , the guitarwork and vocals were excellent quality from what we have come to expect from you, 5 stars on a fantastic track Matt

Well done. Your guitar tone is great. :thumb:
Yea guy's and gals...... this guy is a whole lot more versatile than he'll ever let on!!!! LOL!! He definitely can play drums for sure, as well as sings, plays bass, classical style guitar, and knowing him, i'll probably find out before long that he dabbles on the key's too!!! LOL!! Awesome job here brother.....not for nothing, you know i think your a fantastic player and tone-smith....but what is blowing me away more so than anything these day's is your engineering of these tracks. All the spatial blending of everything, the quality of the way the effects are layered into the track, and the overall mastering is just PHENOMINAL!!! I know you are working very hard on this aspect of your game, and it shows, BIG TIME!!!! 5's here dude!!!! :thumb: :jawdrop:

Man,.....you guys and gals are so cool! I really appreciate everyones responses. :yourock:
Janelle-You always give my stuff a spin. You RAWK girl! Now that you've done some singing here maybe it's time for a Janelle/SC350 collab???
eamon7-I appreciate the encouregement Kenny. I'm a long way off from calling myself a drummer, but every time I play I remember how much fun it is. With any luck JPF will have his own Splawn soon, so you'll have 2 to choose/steal from. LOL!! Thanks again bro.
Bahamut-Mart you're another who has always listened to my tracks regardless of genre and I've always appreciated it. My drums are far from state-of-the-art (Yamaha DTXpress) and I'm sure someone with a better ear for drums could make them sound better, but they work great for what I need them to do. The guitar for bass does work ok in a pinch. I'm always trying crazy stuff. It's too easy to just 'undo' it if it sucks so why not, right??:D
petruccifreak-thanks for taking the time to check this out man. Much appreciated.
JPF-Geez, where do I even start to respond to a post like that??? You're awesome brutha. Although the first part is kinda the pot calling the kettle black. I'd bet not many here no how good a drummer YOU are (smokes me...). You're mostly labled a singer here but you're a more than respectable guitarist/bassist/drummer/producer....and speaking of keys....YOU'RE the one who ended up playing the string parts of our Alice In Chains collab on your keys!!!!
You're a true talent and a good friend, thanks as always bro.

 wtf.. this is killer Matt:rock: Nice job on the drums. Do you run them through EZDrummer or do they have stock sounds?Man, you can't beat that tube amp rhythm sound... no modeller gets close to that. The only song I knew from these guys was In The Middle... I think that was them:headscratch: Anyway... I like em, gona have to check out some more!!! 5 *****

 .........Don't ask me to explain 'em, I just dig 'em. LOL!!!
That is (some of) the stock sounds in the drums. I tried to get them to trigger DFH once but I'm a complete midiot so I couldn't make it happen. I thought the kick and snare weren't bad. Have to try something different with the h-hats next time. Thanks for the post m'brutha. :thumb:

Wow! That opening tone is fricking sweet! Is that the Splawn? No idea about this band at all but sounded like a Jack Black meets Primus cut to me! Thought you did a great job on all the instruments mate...and the mix is pretty in yer face. Love your vox anyway so already converted there. Great work matey. :thumb:

Thanks for the post Chris. Yep, that's the Splawn at the begining. I put the flanger on in Adobe. That's a pretty good description of them too. :D

SERIOUS riffage Matt. I don't normally click with this and similar styles, but it's pretty compelling stuff - certainly makes you sit up and take notice!
Like it or loathe it, you can't just walk by and ignore it (and I could see this stuff getting a toe-hold on me, given time and patience).
Love the real down 'n' dirty guitar tone ... and your voice so full of grit and conviction convinces the listener that you really, really mean it.
Powerful mate!
As for the meaning of the band and the lyrics?? .... to coin a phrase, well used in "VIZ" (underground UK mag' written for adults, but disguised in a kid's style --- sorta like "MAD" ... but with attitude)
"... fuctifino ...."
