This is a beautiful song by David Gilmour from his "On an Island" CD.

I have wanted to cover this song for a while now and sent a PM to Jamie asking him for his help. Within a matter of weeks he sent me a backing track that just blew me away. The guy is amazing folks.

Jamie did all rhythm guitars, acoustic guitars and lead guitars after the main solo in the middle:thumb: + the BT of course & he handled the mix and production:bowdown:
I handled the Vocal duties and the lead guitars out to the middle solo. I used my lovely Pod X3 to do the Vocals and Guitars, it has brought new life to my recordings.

Thanks for making this possible Jamie, just a pleasure to work with you mate.:D

Thanks in advance for listening, Mark.:wavey:

Thanks so much for checking us out GuitarWizard:wavey: .

This song just means so much to me, and as you sing it your mind goes to another plain, just an amazing vibe within this song.

Great to collab with Jamie he made this possible.

The song (and recording) really paints a cool atmosphere. Haven't followed Gilmour's solo career, but if this is any indication, he is consistent and still has that magic. Always enjoyed your homages to Gilmour and PF and this one is exceptional with such a well produced backer. Jamie is really talented at putting together those bits and pieces that are beyond the six-string realm, plus he plays some tasty guitar to boot. Excellent post you guys!!

Very nice cover mate!:thumb: Everything is possible when Jamie handled it.
Your vox is so close to Gilmour's vibe but some pitch issue which is minor thing:yourock: ***** from me my friends

great cover chaps :thumb: backer and guitars sounded perfect, marks vox got the gilmore vibe no doubt, did struggle a bit though in parts though.
maybe try dropping the key a semitone might help?

still very enjoyable, that podx3 seems to be money well spent then mark. :D

i know if i try to sing anything, i have to drop at least 3 tones :(

i can thank 35 years of smoking for that.

jim.

Thanks for the kind replies everyone, when Mark asked me to do this song i wasn't really recording much at all, but he really threw me a lifeline with this one (as did Janelle on Big Yellow Taxi), and i enjoyed it from beginning to end, so a big thank you for asking me mate, its got me back into doing what i love :)
For me this is Marks best vocal performence to date, he did a wonderful job there, and the guitaring too, i had a hard time matching him on the guitar work (and i don't think i did match him tbh), just a brilliant performence from you and a pleasure to work with you again on such a great track
Thanks again everyone :thumb:

Thx Jamie:woot:

I really enjoyed doing this song and I too have been going through the doldrum's musically a little of late.

I gave the vocals a few attempts and this was my best take so I stuck with it. Singing is not my main instument but it was nice to sing again on such a lovely track. I find these real mellow tunes to be the most challenging actually music wise. To sing this was not easy & the guitar for me also took a good few takes to get it to sound mellow and exactly on with the feel of the track.

This is going to my in-laws for their Wedding anniversary, which was the reason I wanted to cover this as the lyrics are so special. They will be thrilled to get this track for their anniversary.:wavey:

Thx so muxh for replies and thx again to Jamie:yourock:

Hey Guys,

This is a great tune and very well covered. Has all that Gilmour/Floyd vibe. You really match up the tones well, lovely BT Jamie, very well crafted and some nice vocal and lead work Mark, I reckon you sound a lot like Rick Wright vocally. That X3 seems to be working a treat mate, I could be tempted to get one!. Well I've not got this album (hint hint Marky Lad! LOL) but this cover stands tall, really it enjoyed guys. 5 star work.:yourock:

Hello, man!

My friend guiar player, is that possible that you share with us the backing track? I´d really apreciate. I´m willing to make a live performance of this song and it´d be good if I had the backing track.

Thanks, my friend!

First things first - Sorry I missed this. It really is lovely and is only of my favourite backings you have made Avalon. Singing is very close to Gilmour Macman and the guitar playing is lovely and composed from both of you. Its a pleasure to listen to music like this as it transends fan worship and is actually good enough to stand up on its own and be judged. That is the moment you actually exceed expectations in my book so top marks.

As for my second point - I feel the two posters above me should learn how to comment on tracks before requesting the backing. I appreciate language barriers sometimes come into play here, but if they are clever enough to request a backer, then it is not too hard to say "good job guys." Knowing how much work I put into making backing tracks, it can be irksome when someone just expects you to share it. A little more interaction would definitley help their cause, no?

The creator is the man from delmonte and he say... get tae!

Its not very nice just to join a community to leech a backin track that Avalon put a lot of time and effort into putting together. Its for same reason I get pissed off on other forums when people only join to use the for sale threads to advertise stuff they are flogging.

i don't know whats the problem!
we are all guitar players and some of us just want to jam by themselves, and there are people who put some effort in making some backing tracks and share it with other players, and he gets appreciated, so whats the big deal?

iam not wanna use it for commercial purposes or stuff or stealing his credit..

so there is no problem sharing it!

The problem is not sharing it.
Avalon I bet would share it not a problem with one of us had we asked.
More the point is that, that is all you joined up for and just expect someone to give you it and then never contribute to the site at all.
Hence... Leecher...

In responce to the backing track requests, i used to make backers on the previous forum (and for other forums), and unfortunately, over the years ppl have taken it apon themselves to not only take backers with no thanks what-so-ever, but also to try and sell my work on sites like e-bay, and for me atleast, thats taking the piss.

Now i have no idea who these ppl are/were (i'm certainly not pointing the finger at anyone), and i've not the interest to take it up with them, but the simple way i fixed this problem, was to stop releasing them in to the public domain, end of.
It might sound harsh, but every song i've ever made or covered, i not only put heart and soul into, but in some cases, large amounts of time, and its not for them to end up for sale, so as always in this world, a few have ruined it for the rest, i'm sorry if that means some might not get to play on a backer i made, but that is my position on songs and backers.
