Finally built my new machine last night. I have been saving for the last 4 months! RAM one month on a killer sale, new HD (to run RAID) the next month, then Black Friday sales and now I have a Quad Core 2.4, 2 GB RAM, 500 MB HD (will be part of a RAID setup with another 500 MB HD, Geforce 8800GT (on sale), Abit IP35 PRO, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler, PC Power and Cooling 750watt Quad Power Supply and Vista 32 Bit Ultimate to top it off. I would like to add a new soundcard, but the onboard Intel HD audio is better than what I had.

The benchmarks are unreal. The first thing I bought was "Crysis." All auto detected at "very high" settings with Vista and Dx10. The Vista performance index is a straight 5.9 across the board. This will have to last the next 5 yrs because I am dead broke now!

Oh, and Audition 3 runs great on it as well. I love the new interface and the feature set. Cheers to that chap who "recommended it." ;)

NewEgg, ClubIT and Amazon just can't be beat for online PC parts. Check em out if you are thinking of upgrades for Christmas.

congrats. i'll bet it works beautifully for recording. i'm checking out audition later this week too. there has been so much software posted lately to help us become better at recording and now it sounds like you have the hardware to go with it.

Sergio, you're one lucky beeoootch;) That's gonna be a sweet setup dude. I'll be interested to hear how Vista runs with your software. Hopefully there are no issues.

Whoa! Sounds like you made a deal there! I´m still striving with this 2003 PC. Replaced a couple stuff on it, yeah, I know, time for something new, but oh well, one of these days. How´s that fan sounding? Boy it sounds so decently quiet when I turn it off. A real hazard when I try and record anything with the mike.

Some observations:

Vista LOVES RAM. I now have 3GB's and it wants more!!
Creative has dirvers for the Audigy line of sound cards, but to use the features (like line in or mic in, you need to hunt carefully on their website for some newly released drivers). I could not record with the way Vista handles audio.

The ReadyBoost feature actually does help. Buy a speedy ReadyBoost approved thumb drive for added benefit.

PeerGuardian Beta for Vista actually works.
Comodo firewall is much better in Vista than ZoneAlarm.
RAID 0 is not such a good idea, but in RAID 1, you get a bad performance hit and makes Vista sluggish. (RAID 0 or one HD performs better).
Audition 3 works very well. No problems.

Still testing software out. What I have mentioned works well. Feel free to add if you are running Vista and have found some good compatibility with software of any kind.
