View Full Version : Led Zeppelin reunion. Right or wrong move?

Having listened to the bootleg a good few times (yeah not the greatest recording, but more honest than wot we'll hear after all the knob twiddling for it's release on DVD or on TV). I say "wrong move!"
I'm just glad I wasn't picked to pay that extortionate price to see them.
IMO Plant's voice sounds appalling when he's singing the Zep stuff.
(just as I thought it did on the unledded stuff all those years ago)
I hope they're not planning to do a follow up tour.
I'll stick to remembering them live via The Song Remains The Same & The Box Set DVD's.

i would of thought a tour was a cert, considering the £££'s it would generate.
you really cant expect 60 year olds to be the same as they were when in their 20's. same scenario for EVH..fans expect him to run around smiling and giving it large, thats easy when yer 24..rolling in money, pissed most of the day, no cancer, and rumping everything that moves.
never saw zep, saw evh 3 times in the 70's. i woudnt pay to see either of em now tho.
regards,
jim.

I'm not looking for a young Zep/old Zep comparisons Jim.
As you say it can't be done.
I'm just after a simple right or wrong on wot people have heard.
As for £££'s or $$$$'s no members of Zep are short of either of those things.
There has been a lot of 'old rock band' reunions over the last few years,
and to be honest there's not a great deal positive to say about any of them.
They are wot they are, old men trying to be young again!
It's a saddening sight which is usually accompanied with an equally saddening sound.
(eg. Van Halen & Roth) Where's the smilie for shudder?

Multi-quoting and carefully extracting both of your written sentences, that resumes my thoughts as well. I say let them all have fun at some private venue-gig remembering their good times, but pop-rock and youth moves on. Anyway, if they did it (or whoever else does it) I guess they all saw the money involved. Grown-up grey haired (haired?) wallets have much more an appeal than a couple of thousand teenagers screaming, or maybe not?
EDIT: How much time will it take for filing this thread to the General Music one? :P J/k. I guess it´s where it should be, but who cares.

I thought they sounded great. But then I am not the biggest Led Zep fan, so don't have any other live performances by them to compare, nor do I know their studio stuff all that well, with the exception of the more popular stuff.

Uke. The only time the words Lousy and Tank go together is when we talk about the Sherman. It usually took four Sherman's to try to take out a Tiger, three acting as decoys while one tried to sneek round the back to hit the engine. It usually ended with the Tiger crew (and tank) intact and four yank tank crews toasted for their efforts. Lack of fuel was usually the downfall of the big German tanks, leaving them stranded and open to be taken out from the air.
Well off topic now Uke's fault

the Tiger was heavy ... and it was slow ... but it was powerful as f**k and packed a helluva punch. 88mm cannon weren't it Pete? It's armour could take a lot of pounding too. Who needs speed and agility when you're travelling inside Fort Knox, can pretty much ride over (or through) everything else you want and no-one can get in unless you let 'em?
How's THAT for off-topic??

Yeah John it had the 88mm, basically an anti aircraft cannon. it popped allied tanks before they got anywhere near. A Tiger once left a battle after being hit 127 times, all crew alive, but probably had headaches.

Who spoke about Shermans? Gimme a T34/85 anytime. Drivers“seat was real low, absolutely shitty gauges, but one hell of reliable tank. No wonder the Krouts copied a bunch of it“s features over their Panthers. Of course these last ones did great at Kursk, :thumb:.

Yep the sloping armour on the Panther was taken from the T-34 design.
Nowt wrong with that though, see a winning formula, use it! (Your swept wing Sabre's used in Korea were designed after studying the ME 262)
In reality though the T-34 was no match for the Panther.
The thing the T-34 had going for it was there was so many of them.
The KV 1 & 2's were a different kettle of fish though. :thumb:

LOL only in this forum could a Led Zep thread turn into a discussion on Tanks and military hardware. LOL.... and you know what? I don't care whether or not this gets back on track or not...I'm having too much fun. :D :thumb:

Aye, more than likely mate. I never really cared for his tone to be honest, until Coverdale / Page came out. I liked the tone and playing on that album.
I will get round to listening to their back catalogue no doubt, but I was also put off by a Led Zeppelin mad roomate at University who kind of put me off it.
But, if that's anything to go by, my little brother was Thunder mad when his bedroom was next to mine back in the house I grew up with and his endless playing of Thunder tunes drove me bonkers until I moved out.
Once I was able to explore their stuff in my own time and on my own stereo at my own volumes, in my leisure, they;'re now one of my favourites.
