heheh! I never really got into them to be honest. I always though it was amusing watching the Stones posturing - and the Rolling Stones were british trying to be american and the NYDs were American trying to be british being american :) But they always had the Velvet Underground-esque guitar playing with mr thunders.

the Sex Pistols Manager Malcom McLaren was their boss for a while IIRC. And he tried to bring them over to England too. Of course the Sex Pistols learned a lot from them so it is fair to say they were probably one of the first punk bands. Or Protopunk maybe. Lou Reed surely gets the honour of being the first punk :)

Fair do's though - you had me searching this out ....

Oh yeah. You´re absolutely right. Man, believe me if I tell ya I´ve never heard these guys before, other than reading about them when I was a kid. Boy all them rocking clichès were in that first video, LOL! the booze, the hair do´s, the ass, the kisses, etc. In fact I truly think mr. Wide mouth ( Mick) was one of the first punks indeed. And Lou! mighty Lou! They both sure laughed at us all, and still are barking. Or was it Mozart? Who knows man.

You can't deny that Johnny Thunders' influence is stamped all over the Never Mind The Bollocks album. Steve Jones was the one who was really into the dolls. Whereas Rotten (hehe) hated them!
Hence the song New York, a 3 minute Vitriolic slating of The Doll's.
I never really liked the dolls meself, but I liked a band they inspired massively....Hanoi Rocks.
Funny old world innit?

I prefered The Damned especially when they had the excellent Paul Gray on bass
