Here's a little tip that most know but some might not so I'm gonna chime in.
Most of us do our strumming and picking near the bridge or neck pickup, but, you can alter the tone of what you are playing slightly by strumming at the neck.
In the first example I'm playing at my standard strumming spot. The second is the same riff (minus my Southern Comfort induced goof up) played with the pick hand at around the 19th fret.
This trick works well on lead lines as well. You can make the e and b string sound more like the same notes being played on the a and d strings.
I hope this little nugget helps some players expand their bag of tricks.
