Anybody ever have this problem? All of a sudden, my Linksys router is blocking sites and really slowing down the internet:brickwall: Worst part is, GBlast is one of those sites, lol. If I connect directly off the modem everything is fine and I can surf anywhere. But with the router connected I can barely surf. I've done everything I can think of, power cycled the modem and router, flushed the DNS, cleared cache, reset the router and upgraded the firmware... still no change. I don't think it's a DNS issue as I can't even ping the sites it's blocking and I can't surf by IP either. Anyway, for now we are connected directly off the modem with 1 computer and Janelle and the kids have to fight me for it, lol.
Any ideas? I'm probably missing something obvious... it's been a long day:toothless:

It's not to do with this is it ?

:headscratch:

I don't know how to lower the MTU to 1492 though...

I have a linksys too and this site is usually slow to open, but then again it was with my old D-link router too. as for it blocking sites I dunno wot the score is there mate.:dunno: I thought that site blocking had to be manually entered into the config. I've read some horror stories on the Halo gamers forum about Linksys routers acting abnormally after a while. This was (typically) after I'd bought mine too! :mad1: Send or take it back

There's some stuff on here about changing the MTU for a Linksys (in the Linsys Router section):

Hahaha, not trying to make fun, Mondy, but I am not getting this stuff either! :p Let me at least offer you my heart-felt sympathy, Charles, as I have been dealing with a similar conundrum for the past week. In fact, after trying to run every anti-virus scenario that I could think of to solve my sloth-like internet problem, I concluded that the quickest and easiest solution (compared to anything else I could think of) was to just erase my hard drive and reformat my computer. I mean, how could that NOT solve the problem??? Well, after a full reformat, my problem still exists which makes absolutely no sense at all to me. I did the whole modem and router reset and power down crap and nothing is helping. I am at a loss for logic here and the only consolation I can think of is that someone as smart as you is having the same problems!!! :D I'm not trying to trivialize your troubles, but I am so not technically saavy, so it makes me feel less crappy that my problem is not specifically due to my lack of technical knowledge.

But anyway, back to the main issue....can anybody please help with this????

Might not even be the solution, but when I google for linksys and problems blocking sites, this is the most common problem I am seeing.

Seems to be a mismatch between the packets sent and received between the router and the sites in question. Because of the mismatch the computer drops the packets.

Kind of like when the postman tries to deliver a parcel to your door that won't fit through the letterbox. However, whereas in the real life situation the postman pops a note through your door telling you to collect from the post office or next door, in this computer situation, it's like the postman chucks the parcel in the bin so you never get it, hence you never get to see the site you want to connect to...

Which was just what the Thomas picture explained...

Piece of piss, you thickos !

Did you disable or uninstall your firewall? Same deal? Damn. Is that router plugged into a UPS? I would have grabbed the latest Firmware too. Or perhaps go back a version or 2? It might have gotten a spike and took a hit to something internal if it was not on a UPS. I have had routers fail or act flaky for no known reason. If you can, I would try a new one at a store you can return it without issue (like Circuit City or the like) and see if the new router behaves the same. It may have just met it's end. Sorry to hear of your issues. And poor Janelle...she may never get online for a while. :)

Anyway, you have my sympathies. I will look around and see what I find about this issue. What Lynksis device do you have if you don't mind me asking? That might help narrow it down to a root cause. Cheers PG. I really want you up and running. You give so much, it's time to receive now. :thumb:

I'm running a Linksys Wireless G router and PCI adapter card in the main desktop. No issues on any of the PCs and internet.

Mondy, I had checked for a MTU setting in the router and didn't find one. I changed it in my registry like the site said but it didn't work either so I figured it must be something else. What I didn't do was check for a MTU setting in the router after I updated the firmware. Sure enough, it was there!!! As soon as I set that to 1492 everything started working again:woot:

Cheers guys. Thanx for all your help:thumb:

Do you have other computers on the internet? Are they having the same problems? Might be a different issue in your case but check your router for a MTU setting. Worked for me:thumb:

It was you that taught me how to google in the first place, so you saved your own bacon mate...

Otherwise you'd have had to have been praying that the antenna was small on the wireless router !

Janelle was about to shove the router up my ass

You say that like its a bad thing ...:wtf:

Glad you got the thing sorted and sorry I missed this thread what with work and pc hell myself. I was going to recommend one of these http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/150216_lg.gif

Because, while they never really solve the problem, they do make you feel better.

Incidentally - I have major issues with my linksys wireless receiver on certain sites so I might have a look and see if I can resolve that but I need to understand what a UPS and MTU are first :)

Do you have other computers on the internet? Are they having the same problems? Might be a different issue in your case but check your router for a MTU setting. Worked for me:thumb: Just to add some feedback data to this topic, I stopped by the local computer superstore last night to inquire about this mysterious problem I was having (3 computers connected to a router but only one of them was running slow as molasses, even after erasing and reformatting my hard drive). Upon recommendation of the sales tech at the store, I bought a new ethernet card ($15), popped it in and now my internet speed on that computer is running faster than ever!

I also figured out why my new internal DVD drives were not showing up. Having never installed one before, I did not know that you had to designate one as the master and one as the slave. DOH!!! :brickwall: Anyway, problem solved! :)
