I grabbed this (http://www.thomann.de/es/harley_benton_hbb400lhtbk.htm) elcheapo lefty bass guitar from a german store Avalon pointed out, it arrived here today. Opened the box, plugged it in and messed with it for a while. Apparently from what I see, itīs pretty decent neckwise and all, funny thing I didnīt have a clue I have to stick in a 9 volt battery in it whenever it runs out, lol! Hereīs a lil sample of it, done with a loop I fixed up. Iīm using the XTL with the Fender Bassman amp emulate it has. Forgot to leave out the crappy reverb, but oh well. Boy itīs fun! Iīve never played bass guitar in my life, so it should be fun to learn how to play it. Iīll leave fingerpicking it for later on, as those mofo strings have destroyed my fingernails which I use for guitar, LOL.

Yeah, its really fun to play bass when you're used to guitar. Especiall finger style. A totally different feel, and it gives your hands one helluva workout when you're not used to it :p
Sounds good too. Looking forward to hearing what you will do with this.
Cool groove, man! I might have to jam out to this track. Congrats on your acquisition! I have a 5-string and I love playing it. I am a believer that you don't really need an expensive bass to lay down some good bass tracks. This will open up lots of doors creatively for you.

^ LMAO! Well, sorry for that man, Jeeze, you remember me of my Dad, but at least he learnt to speak Tarzan-like spanish at the time, mom has oustrazised herself here, lol! Cold war issues I guess. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb400lhtbk.htm
Thanks guys, Iīm having (well had, Iīm damn tired of playing it for this afternoon, haha) a blast playing it. Hey KCAR, I got a 4 and a half minute loop done for this (drumwise), how about some crazy 4 vs 5 bass playing groove? :woot:Lets forbid any guitar playing in it, just some fun interacting īdrum and bassī stuff, LOL! Up for it? Gimme a hollar if so, :woot:

That could be fun!

That sounds good for me, bare in mind I donīt have a clue for playing this thing, lol! I was thinking of maintaining this rhythem pattern through out the whole thingie, then you stick some sorta singing line with the 5 string, but I like that idea too. Gimme a few minutes and Iīll send you the drum track, and we can talk about whatever through pm.

I agree, that was a nice groove Tony. I'm looking after my mates Yamaha Bass whilst he's away in Canada. Great fun, plugged it in to my GNX with a bass preset and sounded pretty cool, I played it on my last original tune I posted too. I had a go at the slap and pull technique, need practice on that but its great fun!. Have fun with your Bro...:)

Oh it is is it?
Let's see how much fun you think it is when you have blisters on three fingertips of your plucking hand. :) Of course you may just end up gaying out and sticking to playing it with a pleck.
It's an ugly bass mate, but it sounds the biz. :thumb:

 It really is it dude! :p I´m used to blisters no prob, in fact using only two fingers instead of 3 like I usually do when I fingerpick on the acoustic is much easier, plus the wider space in between the strings sure helps out for not even worrying that much for accuracy. I find out (just like it happens with guitar playing) some things sound better using a pick, and others definately with the fingers. It´s ugly as hell, you bet man,, but this one will probably never make it out of home, (and even if it does so, I´m too old for all the rocking aesthetics). Anyway, this instrument sure gives you a whole different perspective of laying out tempos and vibes, it´s a very underrated instrument for sure.

Can they be ordered in the states? Seems to me it has a cool pickup configuration going on! BTW,.I got my Ibanez RG 7 string yesterday!! Very nice sounding guitar....very mean!
Anyway,..lets hear a tune with it!
Have a great day bro!

Oh yeah man,..this is what I just put on lay away from my local music shop yesterday. Pretty nice for a cheapy bass. $249.00 and they put a new set of strings on it for me ($24.00) and set it up! It sounds very good and it got good reviews on harmony central. I'll be pickin this baby up next weekend. Pretty bad ass looking too! BTW..click on the picture for a better view of it!

Cool! Go ahead and do it if you want man, no prob! No high tech stuff, itīs easier than you think, and lotsa fun. I only use a free program called Audacity and a floor board pod xtl connected to the PC. Drum loops are fairly easy to fix up (lotsa listen, copy and paste) I learned from zero just a couple years ago.
