Hi guys, here's one from Vai's 'Fire Garden' album called "Dyin' Day".
I've always been a big fan of Mr Vai, and hopelessly outclassed when it comes to covering him (or Satch or Morse), but i've really been enjoying his work again recently, and i've been able to mess about with some extremely cool tunings for the rhythm, both on this and "All About Eve", which was as much fun as doing the lead.
I always feel its near impossible to get the kind of style and energy into Vai's songs that he does, no1 else comes close, and my lead is rough around the edges at anytime, but im pleased with how it turned out.
The backer was scratch built by me, all guitars played by me, yada yada ya  , and thanks for taking a listen, hope you enjoy it :thumb:

Hey Jaime, Ah yes, this is a great one from fire garden, great choice!. Very well covered mate, you captured all those layers with the guitars and very vai like tone, would nick that if I had an X3 LOL. Super work on the BT too, that'll be a popular one others will want to download, great overall musicianship on this, your legato work is flying Bro... I've done a couple of Vai covers myself and I know what you mean about capturing the essence of his style, so much bending and sliding on even some of the simplest notes, but you handled it admirably...and another great cover to add to your collection. :thumb: top marks mate.:yourock:

Don't know the original for comparison, but some fine playing there, I can only stand back and wonder how the hell you do that  ... and as ever a great job on the backer. Have some stars :D

fantastic job!!Excellent playing and tone!!
You and that other guy always pick great covers to do. I'm impressed with the quality of the backer, and of course the guitar playing. Would be cool if you did "hand on heart". Though, any track off this album would be awesome.

I don't know much Vai past Passion And Warfare and I must admit most of his music goes over my head but there is no question of his talent and the talent it takes to cover it. Very nicely done Avalon, I enjoyed it. :thumb:
WOW!!! Very nice Jamie!!! Right from the start with the strummed guitars coming in left then right, to the wonderful solo tones.....just a really well done effort here mate. Also, can't forget the backer. Your BT's have come so far in the last couple years....right on par with the best out there IMO!!!! Great job, and the obligatory 5*****!!!!!!:yourock:

I know this one! One of the later Vai albums I have got. I agree wholeheartedly with Justin about the lovely flowing legato. Tone is very close to what the man himself gets. Backer is superb...great listen mate. :thumb:

Thanks mate, i just feel sometimes that my backing work, rhythm guitars are at the level they should be, and my lead i never quite seem to get to the same standards, mainly because i hate repetitive playing, learning, i just try to record when i have some inspiration to do so and not over analise what im playing.
Sometimes its a nice way to do things, other times i feel im too lazy because of it :headscratch:
Anyhow, thanks again everyone :thumb:

i wonder who that other guy is. i wouldn't know where to start with a vai song and wouldn't be able to play it if i did. i don't know this one well but it sounds like you nailed it. fantastic work
