Hey all, so I was walking by the Art of Shaving store the other day and it kind of rekindled my interest in straight razor shaving. I dunno, it just seems more burly and manly what with the constant threat of going all Sweeny Todd on myself.

So for you guys that use straight razors, is it a pain in the arse to do?

Thanks :)

i take it that straight shaving means "open" or "cut throat" blades.
fuck that! i cut my face to pieces with them plastic throwaway things, id take me head off with a cut throat!

i used to use them 10 bladed cartridge things but they just get shitted up. ill stick to these plastic ones twice a week and look like a tramp on the other days. :)

regards,
jim.

No way! Plastic ones are shit! They just last like what, two -three shaves?
Try some 3 bladed gillette. Works great for everything, including your face.

True about the models changing, but I stick with same one I bought a few years ago, fuck the new ones, hell, you seen that new battery one? Seems like anything works today for shaving, even dildos, :boobies:

Bah! Get one of the original suicide razors. They last a lot longer and your face gets used to them.

Always fancied getting a cutthroat shave to see if it makes any difference. Even the four blades from Gillette are a shit shave for me.

The plastic bics are more shit, the 4 blades are less shit. If a cut throat was less shit to a greater degree, I guess I'd be tempted...

Ok, just plunkered down the money to buy a straight razor from The Art of Shaving. Its a Theirs-Issard Carbon Steel blade if that means anything to anyone :)

For the first hour I had no idea what the hell I was doing, nothing really happened...

But damn, when I turned the blade in the right direction, bristles just start flying everywhere like a damn lawnmower on my face, freakin awesome!!

So, an hour and half later, (an hour for learning mind you), I've got myself an ultra-smooth shave, a blade that is a million times more manly and durable than those pansy-ass disposables, and 3 little nicks.

Don't know why we ever start using those plastic things...

Ulnarian is doing really well now, and only down to a few nicks.

Ah ah, I have solved this problem years ago. I don't shave. I use a beard trimmer that's set on the shortest cut. This way I always looks like a tramp, but it's consistent.

Also helps working for a biker magazine. Our dress code forbids shiny shoes and suits. ;)

I always feel squeamish when watching somebody have a shave with a cut throat :jawdrop: . Having a sharp object scrub your flesh and so near vital your blood pipes . Its not for me , instead i use two blade razors which i heat in hot water first . I like the idea of having a plastic guard keeping those knives outa my arteries .

Interestingly my dear old dad , rip , had a razor , passed down to him by his father and which took a single small Wilkinson sword type blade . This blade never got changed and he always had a good shave :headscratch: . I tried it once and it dug into the first hair and stuck solid , like getting a piece of metal stuck in a grinding machine . I really don't know how he did it
