Just won and paid for this 80s Ibanez Roadstar II (RG410 model) last night:
Looks like Ibanez's version of the Kramer Baretta!
Single humbucker with push-push coil tap in the single volume pot and original Ibanez Edge locking trem :boobies:
Never seen one of these before, but I used to have a gorgeous RS-525 "Purple Haze" twin humbucker model till it was stolen from my car in '88 ... and I never got over it (sob).
Maybe this will help heal the wound somewhat :)
Time to buy some electrician's black tape and convert it to a Mathias Jabs-esque look (a la wahwah :D )

Same here Pete ... just never had the opportunity to score another one till now (almost 20 years later).
Here's the one I USED to have (catalogue pics) in the "Purple Haze", metallic flake finish & super-sexy contoured body (+ gold hardware & original "Pro-Rock'r" trem - the best ever).
Still miss ya baby

Personally, I don't go for a maple fingerboard on a dark body (I prefer rosewood and ebony), but that's a lot of guitar for $130 Pete.
My new one cost me £165 (abt $300).
The OLD one, when I bought it back in '86 was £450 ($900) ... and I didn't insure it against theft! :maddance: ah .. the folly of youth

BTW mate, them early Ib's are well made as Pete said. Those two Icemans were solid and sounded hot. The sunburst one I had for a while was great except for the trem but the cheapo black one I had later was pretty awful. That does look like a Baretta with that pickup slanted.

I agree...Ibanez produced its best stuff in the 80's and 90's.

Basswood, according to www.ibanezregister.com (http://www.ibanezregister.com)
Speaking of the Destroyer II, I also used to have a beautifully finished DT400CS from '85 - to '86 (part exchanged it for my RS-525) - exact same model as Paul Gilbert's.

The picture you posted is my guitar exactly, I had no idea it was given the #DT400...I bought it new in 1980 and still play it today. The only other one i have seen was Paul Gilbert holding one on the cover of Guitar Player/Or World Magazine.

Is Beechwood a common wood used.I have alsways heard of either Alder or Basswood or Ash.
P.S if I wanted to show you guys some pic's of my Destroyer II on this site how would i go about that?.

Not yet ... let's see if the reduced wiring really improves the tone (as I've heard) before making any decisions.
I'm also quie ham-fisted at times, so I may not trust myself to do it.
Besides, I've already got neck pups in my Love Rock, S470 and Aria ProII, so the juicy neck pup tone is already available to me (if I want it).
Hey, looking at the DT in your avatar, it looks like you've got two '58' pups in there, instead of the stock 'V2' in the bridge and single '58' at the neck?
I remember the 58 had a beautiful blues tone at the neck ... a credible 'PAF' sound, but at the time, I was looking for a higher output from my guitar and although the V2 gave that, it was also too hi-frequency oriented for my taste then (like ... ear-splitting treble!). Back then, the notion of changing the pups just didn't occur to me (Doh!) ... guitars were either perfect as stock ... or else get a different guitar.
Fond memories of that guitar just the same ... perfect shape for an in-yer-face ROCK machine ... and the book-matched sunburst flame top? ... that was to die for!! (why did I get rid of it again? ... oh yeah ... the RS-525!)
Get some pics posted up soon, I feel a trip down memory lane coming on.

Hey Captian
I was half kidding when i asked about you putting in a neck pickup.Although it would be nice for added tone.
From what i can see that guitar looks like a work of art the way it is with the pup slightly angled and the smooth color of it...very space age.I wouldnt change a thing on it!.
And as you mentioned if you have other guitars with both already why take away from the nice lines the roadstar has.
Most of the time when playing live there are only a very few occasions someone would use a neck pickup anyway for the odd solo or rythem part.
My Destoryer originally came with two nickel covered 59's in it stock.I had one of the first production models to come out and had to wait around 6 month's to get it.Around 1985 i had a EMG 80 put in the bridge like you i felt the bridge pup was too bright and a little harsh.I have since put in a re issue Gibson Dirty Fingers bridge pup back into instead of the EMG but have never changed the original neck pup also like you i felt this pup was perfect and had a real blues voicing to it.The book matched top is the real deal on these guitars i dont think i have seen a nicer example on any other guitar.Back then Ibanez really wanted to make inroads into the American dominated market and they tried extra hard to top anyone at the time with their finishing work.

'twas the other way round Park ... I traded the DT (together with a Gordon Smith Gypsy-1) for the RS-525 ... which was promptly stolen from me after a band rehearsal about 18 months later, un-insured, in the boot ('trunk') of my crappy run-around Ford. I got the car back, but not the guitar (which was worth 4x the car's value!!).
Look a couple of pages back, I posted some catalogue pics of the same RS model, though in black finish (catalogue colour 'swatches' also posted though ... mine was the "Purple Haze" metallic-flake red-purple with gold hardware). Sorry, but they were discontinued in the late 80s, after Floyd-Rose sued Ibanez over the Pro-Rock'r trem (which was much better than the F-R at the time IMO).
If you can find one ... GRAB IT AT (almost) ANY PRICE!! Beautiful-playing guitars, though you may need to change the pups to suit your taste. Their bodies were also in basswood, btw.

I Px'd my DT at the local music shop in my hometown ... and it was snapped up by another guy in the same town who was distantly known to me. I heard later that because he was p*ssed off with his girlfriend ... and also disappointed with the live sound from his amp at a local club gig, the idiot dipsh*t smashed my beautiful DT into matchwood and burned it at his gig!!! :maddance:

You should post the band pic in the "Post ur pics" thread - may get more response/feedback (sic) there too.
DT looks great. Would look even better close-up!
You should also start a thread of your own upon the DT ... and the rest of your gear (of course) - n/p for me with it being here, but this thread must be about done by now, so you won't get the exposure that's deserved.

I will take down the pic i posted i only wanted to show you my guitar in a band setting that you would be framiliar with.
I guess being new to something like this i might have been a touch overzealous in posting my own pics on others threads.Guess thats always been my problem i charge forward first and ask questions later.
Thanks for the advice about a new thread.
p.s I went to ebay to check out Roadstars( i might just buy one) i wanted to confirm that the one to get is the model that has that Floyd Rose style block and tackle tremolo Right?
I also spotted one that had 3 single coils lace style with a non floating trem as well.( i dont normaly use trem arm's, more of a Gary Moore style player)
