Maybe you should ask Big E for a sticky thread called Smog chat (or something like that), then all this innocent thread hi-jacking wouldn't occur. Afterall, we are a community in a community.

I remember the odd ocassions when the side door was fucked and you had to cart your guitars and amps through the night club below which was full of Stockton's criminal element. A right Star Wars cafe indeed. I'll never forget lugging Marshall cabs up and down three flights of stair either.

Sad to say but I believe the Talbot, No.9, Fitzgerald and lately Manhattens is now completely shut! The end of an era but many pubs are succumbing to financial stress possibly due to the smoking ban. Not that I condone tabs like! Its great to take your gear home without the smell. No offence ta smirkers!

Oh the joys of watching tall people (Sky1962) smacking their heads off of that low beam.

A funny incident happened when it changed to No.9. Steve Meynell went to the downstairs toilet, in the mean time this local ex biker psycho (Fred) came in with his wife (Looby Lou) (Meynell had only been horsing Looby while Fred was away) Fred had found out & was out to kill. Anyway Fred goes straight down to the toilets where Meynell is, next thing theres a loud bang and a peroxide flash as Meynell comes flying through the pub looking like a panicking Zebra with fred like an enraged baboon in hot Pursuit.

Black Rose Christmas gig Middlesbrough Town Hall (82 I think)
BR take to the stage halfway through the first song, off go the pyro's which then set off the fire alarms, which mean everyone gets evacuated. Chris is stood on the stage in no hurry to leave, up comes the bouncer "Oi mate you've gotta get out in case there's a fire" Chris being well oiled promptly tells him to Fuck off! Anyhow things with the alarms get sorted, everyone is back inside, the band plays on. Next thing I hear is "There's that bastard who told me to Fuck off" I turns around and get a smack in the face off this ogre of a bouncer, Cheers Chris

Two pics from Owen's party ('85 I think) Drinking for England (again!)
No sign of Wah here (he's probably sat somewhere with a saucepan full of ale)

1st. Me, Ang, Owen & Dave (Lippy) at the back. It's a good job it's not in 3d or Dave's nose would be scraping the inside of the monitor screen. Yes that's a silk scarf ( hangs head in shame) I was minding it for Sue Ellis, honest :D

2nd. Me, Ang & Col. Anyone remember Col? I've heard (but haven't had it confirmed) that he died. Last time I saw him to talk to was around '94. He then said he was doing Heroin (in all honesty, a drug he was always destined to end up on) he looked rough as fuck. That lad just couldn't limit himself where drugs were concerned, he always wanted that 'bigger hit'.
Anyway I hope it isn't true.

It all came to and end when Spud offered to batter a lad who happened to be related to a member of a very violent gang (The Wrecking Crew), he went away for the weekend this gang turned up looking for him, I got a kicking for nowt, (He would've ended up with something broken) Chris got his room wrecked and covered with paint.

"Long gone are the days when I could look down and see me cock"

Y'know Pete ... lookin' back (and in a PURELY 'platonic' way you understand) ... you were quite a good-lookin' guy back then

So ... what the fook happened??

Great guy - played in a band called Malpractice with him - about 1980 ish
(I was pretending to be a bass player at the time)
Drum skins like a trampoline - but he could rock
Say hi to him from me if you're in contact

Ex Smoggie. Now based in Muscat, Oman

Ian Flewker-Barker (hence 'Flewks') - originally from Redcar
Played bass for about a year or so - good memories and good guys
Lost track of the Malpractice guys as I moved to South Africa in 1981
Reverted back to playing guitar
Still have an old cassette somewhere where we recorded a practice session on an old 2-track reel-reel

Never met you then if you left in '81 as you say. I was only 16 then and hadn't yet been included into the local band scene. Never actually SAW Malpractice up till '81, but often heard a lot of good things about them.

Still ... good to see ANOTHER smoggie coming back into the fold.

You can take the guy out of the smog ..... but .... :boobies:

I do believe Sky1962 is still the proud owner of the single you lads recorded in someone's loft (Loft = attic for our american cousins)

I do believe I still have that in the loft. I think one of the tracks is called 'I wish you would' They were a good band, I remember they did a cover of Bowies Moonage Daydream.

Sky1962 - Wow - you have a great memory for very average songs!
Yeh, we did a few covers to fill out the gaps
I may have a go at re-recording a few of the better songs - will post when I get around to it
Bluesplayer - Yeah, be great to get in touch with Mally
