Not sure but I can hear Eric Johnson 'Cliffs Of Dover' and a style similar to 'Cathedral'. Just not sure who stole/inspired what. Great, great player tho.

I've not knowingly heard owt with him on mate, I've never bothered with anything by Deep Wrinkle, err I mean Purple since Ritchie left. There's too many clever guitarists about. I'm at the point now were I don't look or give a fuck about 9000 note a minute wizards.
You know me I've always preferred the old school lead guitarists,
that style is far more emotionally expressive.
Give me Robbo's solo in Still In Love With You Or Bill's in Yorkshire Landscape, Crying To The Sky any day. '70's Schenker is my God! Will be till I die.
Anyway on wi the stella! Ey Up let's Sup!

Brilliant player with amazing technique and style but all this flash playing has never buttered my muffin much.I'm with Pete on this one ,I prefer the old school players as well. There's only Eddie Van Halen and gary Moore who I've seen live and have wowed me ,oh I saw msg in 82 and Schenker blew me away a bit to:bowdown: A person who has written an amazing song with a solo with feeling is the important thing to me.

Well, I'd definitely call Steve Morse old school. He's a mix of rock, blues and country to my ears.

Posting this wouldn't have owt to do with a certain recent acquisition now would it? :notme:
Love the violining (and with the tone pot too ... HOW long is that finger?) and the harmonic technique ... I could never get to grips with that way of touching the string with the forefinger while plucking with the same hand.
Nice to see him in action ... seemed like a warm up session before a gig? or is it some instructional tape?
Morse is definitely "Old School"!!! The boy is a first rate blues/country style player first (Dixie Dreggs) then he went on exploring other styles.....he just happens to be talented enough to do just about anything!! I have seen him do the tone pot swells on something else before as well...gives it that cathederal vibe.......I think this is him just running through some diffrent EB guitars, just checking them out.....hey, for money, he is in my top five for sure!!!

Well i coulda told you years ago how damn good he was Chris
First time i saw Steve live was with Purple back in '96 at Bradford, and he was absolutely brilliant (they all were), the extended solo he did from Cascades was out of this world, no other words for it, and for me there is no1 that even comes close to him.
Alot of ppl moaned when he joined DP and replaced Ritchie, but i think it was the best thing that ever happened to them, Jon Lords gone on record as saying Morse turned about 1 week of fun times with Purple when Blackmore was there, to 9 years and 1 week of fun when Steve joined them (up until Jon retired from Purple a couple of years ago).
I had the pleasure of seeing Purple again back in '02 at Sheffield, and again, superb performence, two of the greatest shows i've ever seen, just fantastic.
Then if you think that Steves work with the Dregs and his solo albums, which again showcase is amazing talent, there is no1 like him, and you know he's bloody good, because hardly anyone can cover him, and when they do its mostly the easy stuff.
Where have I heard that before the bit he starts playing at 2:15?
Thats from Sometimes i Feel Likes Screaming, some of it anyhow, he go's in and out of it a couple of times then comes back to the main riff again.

I had the pleasure of seeing him in action with Deep Purple in sheffield back in 02 , he was bloody brilliant and he played all the classics alot like Ritchie but with his own style , ofcourse im a big fan of his solo works Steve Morse Band to, i do think when ppl think best guitarists in the world this guy gets overlooked alot , personally even tho i love Satriani , Vai , Blackmore etc i rate Steve Morse very highly , infact i would go as far as saying his probably one of the best guitarists around cos when you watch him he can do pretty much anything.
Although he does play fast in some cases its not the same as watching someone like Yngwie Malmsteen play , Morse does have a superb arrangement of variety which alot of shredders lack, thats why for me personally i rate him as one of the best guitarists out there :)
That reminds i will have to look into learning some more on his playing styles, especially those runs :woot:
Superb vid Chris :D

It's too easy to compartmentise guitarists these days without giving it a second thought. Dixie Dregs have been doing it a long, long time and Morse has MELODY and feel running thru his technique.
Just watched the Dregs bass player (Dave La Rue) with Portnoy and Petrucci in 05's G£ in Tokyo. That guy is also amazing! Great groove in all he does.
BTW that little run he does at 00:34 WILL be mine!!!!

Oh Dave is just class too mate, i'm current working on a Petrucci track which La'rue plays on, and the bass work is just an art inself, i've done an ok job on playing it all, but not as good as the man himself, and this is one of the easier ones

Morse is great.
I've met the man, really nice guy.
Fast guitarists don't impress me either as previous poster said but then again this is Steve Morse... Have to disagree about Michael Schenker and Blackmore. I find their playing disgusting at times. Same goes for Jimmy Page at times as well. Sometimes it not just their playing but their tone puts me off at times as well.
Probably opened a massive tin of worms here but thats my 2 cents.
